When I was in ballet when I was younger, we were taught to find a "spot" and keep our eyes on it while spinning to keep from gettting dizzy. I have not mastered spin mode at all. I get dizzy and sick almost instantly. After watching so many vids of people on spin, I'm wondering if I'm missing out on a secret or trick. Do you "spot" something while on spin? 😬 Thanks!

I don't...but that's just me. It makes me dizzy if I do that actually xD. I Guess I kind of do something similar, when I'm keeping my eyes on the pole at certain moments. But for the most part I just keep in my mind the motion and direction that I'm spinning in, and try to flow with it. The more I focus on the direction I'm spinning in and wrapping my body around the pole, The easier it gets, and I don't really get dizzy much anymore.
The very few times ive done spin, ive spotted. Again, just like you I danced and was taught how to spot while turning. I dont have crazy spin skills, but its alot of fun!
I love spinny and I never spot, I just kind of do what Tabbycat does and try to go with it, although sometimes I do close my eyes if I'm spinning especially fast or doing that move where you're grabbing your legs from a crucifix on spin, it looks awesome but if I look down at the ground during that move it's puke-a-thon central station for me!
When I started, I actually would take Bonine the night before (it last 24 hours). Over time, my spin tolerance has increased tremendously. Previously, in belly dancing, i could do one revolution ... now I can easily do 2-3. So your body adapts over time, but in the beginning, I recommend the meds to get you thru! you can try those wrist bands too, but they didn't help me.

I am just beginning to work on spin mode, I have been a static dancer for nearly four years now. I found that spotting wasn't very helpful because you are spinning much faster than you normally would if you were on your toes or atleast way faster than I can spin on my toes 😂 . I thinkthe best way to work spin is start from the ground up - how did you learn static? Try low momentum upright positions until you get comfortable then begin adding more momentum. Once you feel comfortable and stable in upright poses and climbs, do the same for inverts, low momentum inverts and work on just being comfortable. One thing that totally messes with me is poses where I am looking up then transitioning into something where I am looking down - so far that's the worst and that's where I feel a loss of control. 🧿 I think you just have to take a methodical approach to it. I am trying too. It's not easy to get used tot his style of you've been a static dancer for a long time but I do think it will come faster to you than it did when you first began learning on static mode. 😬 😬 😬
I had my very first go on spinny last night and wow - what a difference! I have really bad vertigo and thought that spinny mode would also make me sick, but I found that while my focus was on the mirror and trying to see if I had my positioning right, my equilibrium didn't really react to the fact that I was spinning... and it was just too much fun. So... maybe focus on the mirror and how good you look 🥂 and see if it helps. Good luck!
