Hey guys, I used to love spinning as a kid but i spin for two seconds and i feel super pukish, any tips?????? oh and new video to be posted of me practicing shortly has a little bit of spin at the end

I luv spin mode but unless it is ridiculously slow all I feel like doing is spewing! This weekend we did our first performance at the studio Xmas party. I was really worried about our routine as there were heaps of spins. One of the girls told me to get ginger tablets. The box said to take two and I took four. I was so nervous when we started that I kicked off too hard and went madly spinning upside down...great news was I felt ok and was able to keep going! Ginger tablets are awesome!!!

My instructor Maureen told me that Alethea says to clap your hands once really loud in front of you to stop the dizzy feeling. It does work...kind of, lol... Poledancefan is Joel Lessing
haaha isn't it weird that stuff we did as kids makes us feel so sick now?? im the same in the playground - swings or roundabouts or anything like that, i used to spend hours on them as a kid, now 5 mins makes me queasy!! some tips: - when i get dizzy poling it helps me to spin the other direction for a little bit (personal experience) - make an 'L' shape with your hand and thumb and rest it on your nose so your fingers divide your view, and jump up and down (this was recommended to me getting off spinny aerial hoop incidentally! but when i realised what i looked like doing it ('loser' sign haha) i wasnt sure if my instructor was serious or if she was just playing with me hahaaa... - don't jump off when the spin is still fast, wait til it slows down THEN get off - your body seems to handle it better than abruptly stopping mid-fast spin (someone on this site recommended this.. maybe tropicalpole?! )
Build up tolerance over time. I used to get dizzy after 10 seconds! If you are dizzy you can help to reset your inner ear fluid by looking hard close up at the pole, then the ceiling, then the pole again. Breathe. Centre yourself. Make a pretty shape very slowly to give yourself a break, just standing tall and pointing a foot whilst doing something wafty with an arm looks nice while you get yourself together, or kneeling down or doing body waves whilst looking at the pole are all tricks I use if I get dizzy in a freestyle. Go round the other way, a few pirouettes will do, you don't have to do a spin trick the other way if already dizzy. Some people let their gaze soften and stare at nothing when spinning, others look at a fixed thing - the pole, or their wrist or something. See what works for you. Extend out to slow a fast spin - put your arm or leg out and exhale - if you can touch the floor with a foot or arm to slow it use fingertips and touch gently otherwise the pole can throw you off!

Tropicalpole gives great advice. When I first got my spinning pole I would nearly puke I felt so ill from it, so I know how you feel! I just kept doing very short and slow spins (much less than five seconds!), then would pop off, do something else, then back on again. I'm much better now :D Do watch your fluid and food level. I find that as soon as mine get even a bit lower than normal, I feel incredibly sick. Hang over with my knees on my hand sort of sick, it's not very sexy lol

I have heard a couple of ways I have heard to stair out past the pole at something in the area where your spinning, like dancers always have a spot when the do their turns. and I have heard stare at the pole. I prefer stare at the pole because it's technically the only thing that is still that I can focus on. Then I get off the pole I take an extra second or 2 to steady myself then I do my next move. Floor work is always a favorite. That way you can lay down or sit while your vision goes back to normal. =)

Hello:) for me the best solution is drinking ginger tea and when I have really "dizzy day" I take one pill prescribed by my endocrinologist. In my country those pills are called Polvertic, and the international name of the pill is Betahistini dihydrochloridum. If You don't have such a nice doctor like mine I recommend You to make a ginger tea it is easy to prepare and after some time even tasty. Unfortunately it also causes excessive sweating so be careful if You have this problem already. How to make it: peel some ginger (about 2 centimeters) chop it and later add 250 ml (1 glass) of boiling water, boil the ginger in this water for about 10 minutes (small fire!!) and pour it through a strainer. After it is easy to drink add some lemon and a spoon of honey:) if it is to spicy, You can dilute it with water.

I get dizzy as well especially now since I work on silks with pole. It's always on spin. I usually practice for hours but then started to feel sick so did some research. I found Motioneaze to work well. You put this oil behind your ear. Smell is ok but does the job. Ginger gum works as well. ~Yayo @LifeOfAPoleTrick
