Designing and Decorating Pole Room

I havent seen any discussions on here about how anyone designed or decorated their Pole room/area/space. I have seen some amazing ideas and rooms through some of the pictures or videos and just wondered how everyone decided what to do. I had to put my pole in the garage as its the only place in the house that has enough room. Problem is I dont want it to look like a garage at all!! I would like it to look more like a fitness or pole studio. Its very much a work in progress but I am still stuck in some areas. I dont know what to do with the floors, right now i have those little kid mats down because we used them in the kids room in the previous house. Now the only place they fit is in the garage so that is where they went by default. So Im not sure if I want to change flooring or not but at least im not on the concrete. Anyways if anyone has any ideas or thoughts or experiences to add, i would appreciate it!

When mine was in the garage I put down a sheet of panelling and put lights around it. Right now mine is in the back room and I ahve not done anything back there. The foam mats are good but watch your toes and if you ever wear shoes. I have injured myself more using teh mats than I have not using them! I am also linking a bunch of threads here. I have gotten kind of used to the search engine here and many times I remember pieces of threads so I think that may make it easier. One day I hope to have my own personal pole space. Oh well, a girl can dream, right?

We can dream all right! Right now i would love to be able to use the whole garage for the pole/dance/fitness space. But trying to convince my hubby is going to be a chore. Im taking over half of it now. With him on deployment, hes never seen this house or the pole (he knows i have it though) so the more i get done before he comes home enhances my chances of at least keeping my half! LOL

I'm banished to the garage as well... my husband is convinced my x-pole will wreck the textured ceilings and the only room we don't have a ceiling fan in the living room....and even then between furniture and kids I doubt I'd get much accomplished.... but that's another discussion. LOL What I did to cover the ugly unfinished walls was to get king sized flat sheets from Goodwill and yard sales (If youre really a perfectionist - which i wish i had the time to be you could buy light colors and dye them all to match) and staple them into the beams. I have found some mirrors (again goodwill/yard sales) that I've just propped up with the intentions of hanging once I do some insulation (Ohio = cold). When my local church does their Christmas rummage (noticing a theme here ? LOL) I want some lights to wrap around the rafters. Floorwise - I have those snap togethermats but they do catch my toes and shoes are iimpossible. Nice for stretching though. Looking into other things...thought about just sweeping and moping really well but since I share my space with the lawn mower, all the kids bikes & junk it wouldn't stay dirt free for long at all....I don't want to do a rug because it will slip...don't want to stick that plastic tile down...though about sticking tiles to a piece of sheet rock and getting my dad to drill it into the floor in a few places to keep it from shifting which could easily be fixed when we sell with a quick skim of concrete filler. I'll try to post some pictures later.... its delightfully tacky and pretty half assed but its still better than no pole at all !

Tansy- go to Lowes or Home Depot. Ohhhh....good stuff ! Thanks ! Does it slip out of place at all ? My garage is poured & polished concrete...very very slippery - and one of the main reasons ive hardly poled at home since Dad helped build a ceiling brace for my Christmas present last year :( I suppose I could get a few sheets of the flooring and expand my area to the corner...Ive got a 6x6 square in the middle of the garage right now...or put some rug grip strips under it. Also did you put the pole on top of it or cut a hole in the center ?

Just looked at your picture and you can't even tell that's a garage ! Very nice ! Maybe I'll add screens to my Christmas list....I don't like my space as much as I want to...just because it feels so....ugh...I don't even know what it feels like....but for me trying to get in my zone & do anything while looking at a lawn mower, totes of old kids clothes & a bunch of camping gear is super distracting and just not working. LOL

That was the reason for the rope lights....with the lights off in the garage and just the rope lights a lot of the stuff was hardly noticable. I had my Lil Mynx pole out there just over the concrete and it never once slipped. I imagine adding the grip stuff in between could do not harm. The only thing that happened with mine over time is that the edges of the panel started warping upwards...but that was over a few years time frame. There are a few threads about what other people have done under their pole. I think I ahve responded to ever single one the same so if you do a search on "panelling" you should pull up all of the threads.

I've noticed a few people mentioned being in the garage and I figured I'd toss in an old trick I used to do for some of my apartments. Get a bunch of sheets or lots of butcher paper and hang it/them on all walls then tarp down the floor, get spray paint and whatever else you want (ie: sparkles and glue), and then have a painting party with friends and family. It's super fun and you get all sorts of interesting things on the walls. If you have a theme that you want you can make stencils as well as tell people what you'd like them to try and stick to theme wise. After that I would hang mirrors and pictures over areas I perticulaly didn't like (because it does happen) and decorate accordingly. :P I guess it doesn't have to be done with friends and family but it sure makes it fun! I think my favorite room so far was the "heart" room where I got pastel colored spray paints and glitter to match and then did hearts all over the room with a few different stencils that I made (spray the heart and then blow some matching glitter on it.).

Since we just moved in to this house, I have a pile of stuff in the garge that is supposed to be put in yard sale. Once i get rid of the sell pile, i think i have a way of hanging a sheet on the garage door so that I can cover it. Im also going to paint the walls, they are finished dry wall just not painted. And I have afew more things that need to be done to "hide" some of the garagey look. But my biggest worry was the flooring, i think i am going to try the panel thing on the floor. The mats are really nice for a "cushion" so that when you slip or fall your not landing on a hard floor, but they are a PITA to clean! Best way i have found is to take them all apart and hand wash them using the hand held shower attachment. Very time consuming. I was thinking maybe just invest in the fake wood flooring stuf that kinda just fits together. But not sure if the hubby will go for that. I also was considering the rope light things but couldnt figure out if i would feel cool or cheesey with it. Idefinitely need more lighting out there, you can tell by the video. I saw someone had lights around the top of their pole which made it like a spot light. The video looked cool, i dont remember who it was though. And i have no idea where they got it. Im sorta torn at the moment of decorating or getting more clothes and shoes, lol!

Thank you for the great ideas! Very crafty and awesome. Since I cant pole right now, im spending a lot of time reading and researching. Found a thread on here about the Mipole light, so i grabbed that on ebay for 25 bucks. Amazon and spencers sell it as well. I found a few prints on amazon that I am going to order and frame to go up on the walls. prints are 2 - 5 bucks a piece and the frames i can find local, will probably look at goodwill or thrift stores first, then craft stores. I have an old set of satin sheets that I am going to cover the garage door with, the pillow cases will be used as well, but im not sure if i am going to cover the table with them or make another project out of them. The floor is going to have to wait for a bit, and im going to let my husband install more lighting when he gets home. Its sorta his job in the navy and he is good at figuring stuff out like that. And I am ordering a new ipod dock stereo thing. I have one out there now, but i dont think it quite projects enough. I also spent some time last night uploading cds to the computer for new dance music. So that is where I am at now. That is as far as i have gotten for now.

So - garage gals - where are you all located and how do you deal with the elements ? I've got a heater that makes it kind of tolerable when its around 30- 40 outside but much lower. Than that and I'm afraid I'll end up stuck to my pole like that kid in "A Christmas Story" and anything above 75 makes the garage a sauna...great for stretching and yoga, bad for grip. And if its raining...humid as hell and I might as well forget it...Southwest Ohio is too damn temperamental with the weather ! Can't wait to move ! Big kitchen & pole space are my MUST haves !! LOL

Im in San Diego so the weather isnt too extreme. We dont have air condition or heat in the house so it would be the same no matter what room i put it in! For the hot days i have fans and the cooler nights i have a small heater. I find the garage holds the heat from the day so if i pole at night its been the perfect temperature. But like i said, San diego doesnt have too much extremes. Thats probably not very helpful for anyone else.

Im in the middle of a renovation. Since i still live with my parents. They offered he garage to me for my dance space. But our garage is full of junk. And it would cost more for me to convert it into a studio than anything else. Since they won't let me touch any other room(even though they don't even use most of them nor have guest) i decided to just create space in my bedroom. I sold half of my clothing collection n dressers just for space. I purchased several cheap long mirrors from lowes theyre about 6$ each. And small DIY shelves for my dance shoes. I have so much more space. I still plan on installing track lights they're about $40. N hard wood floors. We might have wood left over from when we built the house, IF not...then stained bamboo floors is a nice alternative, its a "green solution, looks great, and is actually quite cheap

I bought two equipment mats from walmart. They are by gold's gym and I use them under my Star Stand Alone. Im looking to add sheets or something to in order to hide the basic garage stuff. I love the garage!

I should have updated this a while ago so thanks for bumping it! We made some decisions on how to decorate the space and I am very happy with it so far, though i am not finished. But its a process, ya know.. Since we have decided that the space is a muli-purpose area, we went with the professional gym rubber flooring. Its easy to clean, protects the concrete floor and looks very good in the space. I also have found that I no longer need the rubber skid pad that Lil Mynx suggests under their poles, since basically the whole floor is a rubber pad. This stuff is not cushy though. It is rock hard. So now i am looking at crash pad options. I bought mirrors from home depot, spent 150 bucks for their 3x5's and 1 smaller one. I have one set of curtains that i hung up to hide the "storage" area, bought at walmart, rod and curtain set around 10 - 15 bucks. I have a room screen that will go up to hide the tools, it needs new hinges though so I need to get on that. I have added a TRX and mount, aerial yoga hammocks (from aerialempowerment.com), Spin bike, power rack, weights and 2 benches, and turned our old baby crib into a kids art center since I first posted. Im not done with it, i add something as i can. Overall i am happy with the space so far, though i have some more plans to work on. I will have to add a picture

Where did u get your room screen and do u have a pic of it? I hung a king sized sheet over my "storage area" that houses all of our beach chairs and bike racks. Im probably going to add another one on top, but ill need a ladder to get to that part of the wall!

I am thinking about getting a photographer's backdrop set up......like veena uses in a lot of her vids. That would take care of the garage look for photos!

As far as mirrors (there was some thread a week or so ago about cheap mirrors) I went to Target and bought 3 $6 mirrors. They can kind of look like funhouse mirrors, but they're not too bad and they get the job done. They don't come with any hooks or anything so I got some command strips for hanging heavy pictures and frames. I used 4 per mirror. Each pack of 4 was about $4 so in total I spent about $30. Not too bad considering I didn't need to put any holes in the wall and they were up in about 10 minutes!
