Dance Your A** Off!

Is anyone else watching Dance Your A** Off? I was skeptical about it at first, and kind of worried that it would be exploitative and poke fun at the contestants, but it's not bad. It's a total guilty pleasure. The contestants are awesome dancers, and really put on a show. Anyway, I'm asking because next week they're gonna rock the pole! Men and women alike, I totally can't wait! I'm not sure how long they get to practice, but I'm excited to see what they learn in a limited amount of time. It's also still going to be a partner dance, so it'll be interesting to see how that works out. Anyway, it's on next Monday at 10 on Oxygen if you want to tune in.

While they may not exploit them, The Soup and Chelsea Lately do exploit them on a prett much weekly basis. As a fat chick, I am boycotting 😈 . Why must they dress these people in spandex with their every roll showing?! Even if they aren't exploiting them or making fun of them, pretty much everyone else is. 🙁

I feel you Charilee, I was really bummed out when The Soup made fun of my favorite girl. She was so fierce, and she totally rocked the dance. Unfortunately, it's hard for mainstream media to miss a chance to poke fun at a person of size. I used to work at Torrid, so I've been there! I'm all about body acceptance and size pride, and I think as long as you feel good in your body then it doesn't matter what size you are. I fast forward through the weight loss junk because I don't give a rip how much they weigh, I just want to see the dancing! As far as their outfits go, they're just as garish and terrible as the clothes that skinny dancers wear! They need stretchy clothes so they can move, and I'm glad they took the opportunity to show plus-sized bodies in spandex dance clothes, because there isn't anything wrong with their bodies in the first place. Why hide them? No matter what it is, once you put something out in the world, you can't control what other people will think or say about it. As long as the show itself is sending a positive message about the contestants, it's up to the viewer to decide. I decide they rock! But I totally understand wanting to boycott it, I feel the same about a couple shows myself.

I haven't been watching this show but I've been meaning to because it involves dance and I love dance shows. Should the heavy dancers be ashamed of their weight and hide it? People will always ridicule (especially shows like chelsea and soup) no matter what you do or wear, right? I hate to think that any of them would feel they need to "cover themselves up" or wear certain clothing because people make fun of them. If they feel good in it they should go for it. At least they have the guts to even dress up and dance in front of people.

I wish we could ban people who mock bigger people from watching tv! 😈 Once the show airs and there's a clip that's available to view online, could someone please post the link here? I always love to see how pole dancing is portrayed in the media.

Even skinny people can wear unflattering clothing, its not about 'hiding' or 'showing it off' its just about what looks good.

I weigh 220 lbs. I understand the meaning of the show is acceptance of your size and making a change to be active. However, unless you have been this size, you may not quite understand what it means to bare every single flaw for the world to see when there are ways to still dress beautifully, sexily, however you may choose, and not be cannon fodder for every late night talk show host. That is all I am saying. You are taking a situation that sets people up for ridicule and then amplifying it instead of doing your best to keep it from being as bad as possible. And you can say we SHOULD accept their weight/size, and generally I DO accept my weight/size and am comfortable with it, because I am working toward a goal and I understand my body has birthed 3 children including a set of surrogate twins. However, if I saw Joel McHale making fun of me on The Soup, it would f'ing hurt knowing a few million people just had a chuckle at my expense. I'd rather my every roll and stretch mark covered at least for that reason. That was the point I was trying to make, and certainly not that anyone has anything to be ashamed of.

I also wanted to add, look at shows like The Biggest Loser. They still make them undress down to nothing on network television, but they then don't have them in shiny purple spandex for everyone to stare at. It's just.... different. I guess as a bigger girl who spends a lot of time carefully choosing my clothes to flatter me rather than make me look worse, this seems borderline inhumane to me LOL.

I just caught this week's episode, and it was actually pole dancing week! I was all excited - even though there wasn't a lot of actual pole dancing. The pole was more of a prop than anything, almost like decoration, or a garden gnome. But hey, it was decent PR!

They barely touched it but it was just nice to see the pole there...on national television no less! I'm quickly developing a pet peeve for people that call it a "stripper" pole though. I barely ever strip on my pole but I sure as hell do a whole lotta dancing!Everytime I hear that word on TV I cringe, like we're being set back Lmao!

I watched it and I yelled out the name of whatever move they did, when that chick did the pretzel i was like AHH! *run around*, my mom thought i was nuts lol. not enough use of the pole in my opinion though 🙁 plus I thought it was dumb that it seemed like the only chick who used the pole to work out the whole week instead of a little bit of pole and mostly gym lost the least amount of weight, but thats probably because she gained the most MUSCLE! I thought this show would be about doing JUST the dancing as a workout for however long and seeing how much weight they lost by doing that particular dance, not a little bit of dancing and mostly gym work outs. I was disappointed 🙁 plus of course guys always lose the most weight the fastest so they always win. bah humbug

Yeah. Those darn guys. always having the upper hand 😠 I thought they would do more dancing too. Not that weightlifting isnt great for weightloss and dance as well but I thought it was more focused on "dancing" your ass off, not exercising your ass off.
