Corsets...

Hey all. I am into the Steampunk type fashion however I am just starting out with my clothing and jewelry collection and I was wondering if any of you wore this type of attire. If so, do you have any suggestions for a cheap way to find this style clothes. I don't want to spend a bunch of money and find that something doesn't fit me. Also, I would love to get my hands on a corset or two, so if any of you have corsets that are old or you don't want anymore that are small I would like to see pictures and maybe buy them if you want to sell them for a good price. I don't know if this fits into that specific style since it's vinyl but I have a black vinyl corset from hot topic that I never ended up wearing anywhere so if you want it you can have it 😛

I like steam punk burlesque styles. keep your eyes open for plain cheaper corsets (fredericks discontinues colors a couple times a year for the dream corset, I pick them up for about 25 bucks) you can go to a fabric store and buy beaded appliques, fur or feather trim and gussy them up.

I haven't bought anything, but a coworker suggested I buy stuff from here http://clockworkcouture.com/ Some of their items look like a good deal, but others seem way over priced. I was more punk/goth because I had friends that were and we'd go to clubs that embraced it. But then responsible adulthood kicked in and I stopped buying clothes for just one night a week/month, I moved away from them, etc. I think I'd totally be steam punk if I could find a club for it...and a way to fit it into the budget lol. I would get a lot of my stuff from eBay or piece together things from the thrift store.

I don't dress totally steampunk all the time, but I have been known to show up at work in long,Victorian Blacklist dresses and little top hats! I mix steampunk jewelry or pieces in with some "norm" clothes and even choose blouses or hosiery that reflect the s.p. aesthetic. Etsy has some great stuff, just use the search term "steampunk"--two of my fave sellers are Voodoo Lounge and Lovechild Boudoir. I get hats and accessories from The Art of Adornment on line. They're more goth, but the have some cool s.p. stuff. At the high end are Clockwork Couture, Lip Service and Gentlemen's Emporium--pricey, but good value and excellent service. The title corset caught my eye. I adore corsets! I prefer underbust corsets b/c you can change the look more. As for steampunk style, its pretty varied depending on if you going with a theme/character type but here are a few ideas. See the link below. See how the necklaces are used to drape the garment with? I did this when my husband and I went to a steampunk ball. If your semi-crafty I can give you lots of ideas, as that is a good way to keep costs down. I was shocked that Michelle's crafts had brass looking jewelry pieces etc. Jewelry and hats are pretty easy. If you can sew there is lots you can do that you can edit vs. make the whole thing from scratch. I hope that helps some. 😀

My honey just bought me two cheaper corsets for now, but please keep your ideas coming! I appreciate all of them! Velvet, if you don't mind sharing all of your ideas with me that would be awesome!!! I'm not a skilled seamstress, but I can do some. I don't think that I can really mess up with a Steampunk look. 😉 I love the look of the websites you suggested, I like that style look!
