Classes or not?

Hi everyone, I'm a new member from London and my husband bought me a pole for christmas. It is up all the time and I have worked my way through all of the beginner moves on here and am slowly working my way through the intermediate lessons now. My question is, do I need to attend a class or is this a good enough resource to learn to pole dance? I feel I'm getting stronger and more graceful by the day, but sometimes wonder if I would have more confidence to try new things in a class? Thanks! Thanks

While I think studioveena lessons are fantastic and I do find myself coming back to them to get clarification on something that I learned in classes, I still like the interaction and physical assistance that I get from attending classes. If you have the ability and money, I would suggest taking even one beginner session. However, if that's not a possibility, there does seem to be some really good dancers here that have learned just from being "self-taught" and this does appear to be the best site to do that.

SV has amazing lessons. If you can afford to go to a class - I recommend that for work that has you up in the air and/or inverted so that you have proper safety mats and spotting. As you call around for classes make sure they have some sort of policy and standard regarding mats and spotting. :)

I started the lessons here at intermediate and went up to advanced without classes. For moves that made me feel nervous I used Itac and cushions.

I think you should take a session or a series of classes. Not only will you satisfy your curiosity, you may meet other people to pole with at home.

That was so great of your husband!! 🥂Class is are fun, but to take more than one class a week can get very expensive. If you want to grow as a pole dancer you'll need to practice more than once a week, if you're just looking for a social activity then once a week may be fine. Since you have a home pole you may want to check out the lessons here. In addition to our individual and routine lessons line up we now have a 30 day take off program. Keep in mind your not "self taught" here at Studioveena, the videos have very in-depth instruction. You have an instructor (me) here to help you out and answer questions, also everything is place in progressive order so you don't have to worry about what to teach yourself. I've done that for you. 😉

Sorry, meant to say that you should use the lessons here and try taking classes at a studio to satisfy your curiosity.

Thanks everyone. Veena, you are absolutely right......I am having lessons every day from an excellent instructor! I love that I can access them anytime and some times work on a move whilst dinner is cooking lol! I have recently started filming myself and have been pleasantly surprised by how straight my plank is for example. I'm sure the lessons would be fun, the cost is fine but the child care presents an issue for me as my children are all still little. I'm sticking with studio Veena for now. Xx

I adore Veena's lessons, but I also believe that having studio time is great for inspiration, motivation, and really making sure you are executing the move properly. It can make a world of difference when you have someone evaluating what you're doing. Another great thing you can do is make sure to join in on Veena's Friday Chat day. You can get some good feedback there =) Mostly, though, I like studio classes for inspiration and motivation. The community is great, and I really CHALLENGE myself so much more with other people pushing me =)
