I am a beginner dancer and just started with a pole in my home with YouTube! I have pretty chubby legs and an having a hard time "gripping" the pole with my legs when climbing? Would those sticky sock things help? One you use those can you ever dance without them? What else would help my chubby legs?

its hard for everyone to grip the pole when they are new. you probably dont need anything but time,patience, and practice for climbing. seriously. I have thick thighs and you will find that we will actually have an easier time gripping with our legs because of it. you probably need proper lessons too. get Veena's lessons if you can, you wont regret it. learn the proper way to climb and make sure your skin and your pole are nice and warmed up. you need proper technique, strength, and warmth to grip the pole. having "chubby" legs will not prevent you from gripping the pole so dont even worry about that. at this point you dont need the socks. post a video here and maybe we can help you with your technique. youtube has some good videos and some not so good. I would probably have a very hard time if I was using youtube for lessons. it's just not enough for you to safely learn good technique. poling is a serious sport/dance and requires good lessons. one would not rely on youtube alone to learn trapeze or high level gymnastics-it's the same for pole. once you are a little more advanced you might be able to watch youtube videos and figure out how to do some things but right now you need legit lessons
Amen, having a good bit of chunk to your leg is more of an advantage than a hindrance in pole I think =] you will be grateful for it as time goes on hehe . and yes climbing is just one of those things which is difficult for everyone starting out, just have to persevere with it =]
I agree with the others who commented. Not being able to grip the pole is because you're new. I have skinny legs and found it very hard to grip.
I also want to add that the ankle grips helped me greatly when starting out. Now I have developed enough strength that I dont need them anymore. So, to answer your question, at least in my experience, the ankle grips were very useful.
I use "Dry Hands" on my thighs and chins and it helps tremendously, especially when the pole is slick. Good luck!

If you have a new pole it can be part of the problem because they tend to be slippery. No matter how hard you grip you'll slide off. I've had my pole for 6 months and still have this problem. I started using pole grip which helps tremendously.
