I think that this move is really beautiful, but I cannot do it to save my life. I've watched several videos, tried both sides and several different grips, all to no avail. Anybody have any advice about this one?

how long have you been poling... it took me about a week to finally be able to tolerate the weight. and then one day i was like holy im doing the carousel i just didnt realise it. it just takes some time to build up the muscle. just keep working at it and soon u will notice ur doing it... 🙂

I've been poling on and off for about a year. I don't know if I'm just not getting everything coordinated properly or what. I'll keep at it though. Thanks!
🥂 I just got the Carousel for the first time..... What works for me is the split grip hand placement, but with my fingers all wrapped around the pole instead of the "gun" position...
once you feel comfy w this move try likning it into a back hook. it looks pretty, its easy, and gives you good momentum. ☀️
Getting the carousel can be tricky for some people. I've had students who can invert and still have trouble understanding the mechanics of the carousel. You can be "strong enough" but still not get it. Can you possibly post a video of your attempt at doing one? That would help a lot and someone may spot something you don't know you're doing or not doing. If not, can you explain exactly what goes wrong?

i agree with empy. videos help to troublesohot a lot. that being said, an intermediate step to the full carousel that i have my students do is: right hand up top, left hand in position on bottom. lift your left leg up and behind you into position for carousel. pushing off on your right, do little "hops" around the pole, really working to pull with the top hand and push with the bottom, until you get comfy enough to extend the "hop" into a half-rotation etc. into the full spin.

That sounds like it will be very helpful. That seems to be the main problem that I have: no momentum.

If you feel you don't have momentum just walk into it a bit faster. Loads of my students are afraid to spin fast, even though the more momentum you have, the less likely you'll fall because it keeps you in the air 🙂 Staying in the position is also an issue for lots of people. Make sure you tuck your elbow into your ribs and slightly twist your torso to the direction of your bottom hand so you can keep your balance. Also, look at the pole! It keeps your neck and waist square so you don't twist off to the side and can spin on longer. Good luck!
