Cannot afford x-pole or lil mynx. Suggestions?

I just can't afford a good pole right now. I have never poled before but really ready to get into it. I looked around on amazon and found these three, which have decent reviews. Hey Kaekyn! Unfortunately, none of the poles other than X-pole, Lil Mynx and Platinum Stages are considered safe enough to do more than posing with. The first two links you put up, the poles don't appear to link together in a safe way- I feel that the linkages between each section are far too small, and they will likely bend and possibly break if you try spinning on them. The last one has no actual pictures of the pole itself, and that seems pretty dodgy to me, as well. I know that the poles are expensive when you're looking at the three big players, but they really are worth it. My first, and currently only pole is a Lil Mynx stainless steel, which is fully stationary, and actually cost me about $350. The Veena pole is almost that price (when considering shipping to my area in Canada, anyways) and has many other awesome features on it. I'll also point out that I've had my pole for... um, 5ish years? If you keep it clear of any kind of metal (meaning rings, belts, bracelets, as well as being very careful while moving) and clean it often, they last forever. My pole is my bestest friend for dancing, and I have almost no complaints (almost none as in I wish I'd done my research and gotten a rotator!). I understand the feeling of wanting to give it a try, but not wanting or being able to dish out the money for a truly safe pole. But, you must remember that this is also a sport- without your safe pole, you could fall and seriously hurt yourself! Do you know if there are any studios near you? It's possible you could speak to one of them about having a trial class, or see if they have some "open pole time," as I've seen in other studios! Otherwise, working on things like strength, flexibility and even doing handstands and elbow stands will really give you a head start when you are ready to buy your pole!

People are always selling their poles. I'm sure there's someone who will sell you a used one at a cheaper price. Just keep checking veena. Where are you located?

#1 looks like the fake x poles. They used to have plastic domes that could crack, chrome that peeled, and seams that could pinch you. Not sure if that is still true. #2&3 I personally do not like the idea of plastic joints. The forces involved in some spins... Keep checking your local Craigslist. People often post lilmynx poles!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I live in a very remote farm town. Not much selling on craigslist around here. But I will keep checking on here and hope to find one cheaper that someone would be willing to ship or wait until I can afford the real deal. Thanks!

The rule of thumb is that "The most expensive pole is a cheap pole" The general reasoning goes like this: 1) Cheap poles tend to be dangerous. Youtube will fill your dreams with horror stories if you look. You don't want to have a $3000 emergency room trip because of a $150 pole. 2) Cheap poles have no resale value if you stop poling. However, a well cared for Lil Mynx, X-Pole or Platinum Stages will often fetch nearly what you paid for it. You might lose $40 but with a cheap pole you'll lose all your purchase price. 3) If you really like this pole thing you'll want to purchase a good pole anyway then you've paid for two poles, the cheap one and the good one.

Stalk craig's list! I bought a stationary pole from xpole and decided a couple years later I really wanted to be able to spin...... I was able to to find a pole on craigs list for 250....... xpert is like 350 and then u have to pay shipping so I think I got a pretty good deal Just make sure u take a friend with u to pick it up.... check it out when u get there..... even ask to have it set up..... and don't pay until uve seen it all.... make sure u know what u are supposed to be getting also...... like an xpert comes with 2 carrying cases.. the pole pieces.. and the tools Also search on here.... there's always people looking to sell on this website!! I have seen x-pole sport version ( non spinning) on microfiberproductsonline.com for 250. The are an authorized dealer of x-pole, 30 dollars shipping and I've seen coupon codes for 5%off total purchase which brings you back down to ~250. Just an option if you can do that amount.

Just to point out, the second two poles you posted are $179 each. A lilmynx stationary powder coat pole is $189.

You'll pay more for a cheap pole, because you'll end up buying a real one and the cheap one will have no resale value! I have purchased 2 used poles--one lil mynx static powder coat for $125 and one xpole static/spin for $225 (I think). Search craigslist!

If you go to a local studio ask the owner or other students if they know anyone or if they are selling a used pole. Also I second craigslist just be really careful to make sure it is a legit pole before purchasing it. Peekaboo, Carmen Electra poles or other similar "novelty" poles that are sold in party shops and adult stores are to be stayed far away from, do not buy at any cost! If you can wait it out until you can get enough $$$ together to get a SV pole, lil mynx or Xpole that will be the better option in the long run. I have had my Xpole 3 years and it is still going strong. The extra monetary commitment in the beginning is worth it to have a pole that will last you years.

One more thing..if you can get the money together to buy the $179 pole, you can hang on a little longer to save enough for a lil mynx (which won't be that much more), unless you find one on craigslist for cheaper! I'd even sell furniture, household stuff etc that I didn't really 'need' to go to the pole fund. You won't regret it.

Permanent platinum stages poles start at 150$. You might also be able to get a 10% discount for being a member of SV and if not they usually have sales around all major holidays. If you want a removable multi piece that wont kill you you are going to have to pay more though.

You have to remember that not only are you buying a quality pole, you are buying customer service. I have had my pole for a few years now and know that I can contact X Pole at any time if I have an issue with it and get replacement parts. Try doing that on a cheap knock off. You may be able to get replacements if something is not right when you get it, but later down the road you are SOL.

OMG- customer service is SOOOOOOOO important! I have Xpoles in my studio and they have been AMAZING every time I've had issues and had to call them. Definitely buy a quality pole. It'll be worth it in the long run for long lasting but you will also be able to get a return investment if you ever decide to sell.

You wont regret saving up and buying a quality pole like the SV or xpole! We've heard many stories of girls buying a cheap pole only to have it break or even injure them. As the ladies mentioned, customer service can be such a help and both poles have good service.

I agree, customer service is extremely important. I'll also point out that the poles we're recommending (Xpole and Lil Mynx/SV Pole) are tried and tested, and we all feel safe with them. Of course, you'll get some great reviews for those knock-off poles as well, but... do you really want to risk your future safety? Good reviews are based on a LACK of accidents, and you don't want to be one of those people who experience an accident. The poles we say are "good" or "reputable" are often used by thousands of women, if not millions, and are often used for many years. I had my previous Lil Mynx for five years, and sold it to a friend- it's life is definitely longer than 5 years! My current one I could see having for a very, very long time. But those other poles... while you get good reviews, like I said, they're based on a lack of problems. Keeping in mind that probably half or more of the people who do have problems are not putting up reviews online, and you start to see why we're worried... hearing about the horror stories and the issues we've all seen from these cheap poles, and knowing that's only a fraction of what actually happens? YES there are people who like those poles... but that would change in an instant if they fail due to faulty design, plastic parts, or simple inability to deal with the stress, and then cause an injury. All of a sudden, a "good review" turns into a horror story of someone potentially becoming injured in a very expensive and perhaps permanent way.

ADawn86 - How large of a test base is there for this pole? Does the company make anything other than poles, or is this all they're dedicated to? Are they aware of what we intent to do with them (as in, aerial inverts, Iron X's, high-speed spins)? I'd love to say that you might have a new potential for the pole dance industry... but I'd need to know a lot more about them!

Where is the phone number for this company? Can I talk to a human being about my purchase? Do they have a warranty? What about all of the bad reviews (and even some if the good) that say the pole is bowed? It seems to me (from reading the reviews) that this would be a GOOD "grind pole" and if you're lucky it might do for some basic tricks. But I wouldn't trust it with my life. Save up an extra 100$ and get a basic X-pole/lil Mynx/PS pole.
