Can you do pull-ups?

@Storypole - I'm curious: what are the different kinds of pull-ups/chin-ups in P90X? Can you describe them?

@elektra - gosh! Okay there is wide front pull-ups, close grip pull-ups, wide grip chin ups, close grip chin ups, switching wide grip pull-ups, corn on the cob pull-ups (where you walk along the bar with your chin still above). Oh - and towel pull ups (one hand is normal grip and the other is holding onto a towel wrapped over the bar...more similar to holding a pole :-). In one workout - I usually do 70-100 of these...intense!

Story- aren't those corn cob pull-ups a bitch?? lol I'm getting ready to start round 2 of p90x. It's such an aweosme program- execpt fo rthe fact that their cool-downs are waay too short. i learned that the hard way. My first week I was so sore from not cooling down properly. Can't wait to start again!! You do 70-100 pull-ups?!?!?!?
@sasha - I don't do 70-100 in a row! I would die lol! In a one hour workout :-). This is the second time for me too. I did it a year and a half ago - the classic version but half way thru, my shingles attacked and I was out for the count for months :-(. This time I'm doing the lean and I like it much better bc I tend to bulk up quickly and I had major man-like muscles lol! I'm definitely noticing a difference this time in more lean muscles yay! Also, I've added shakeology this time around. When I'm finished, I'm thinking about doing a second round or possibly doing brazil butt lift...not sure yet!
@sasha - I forgot to say that after the cool downs I do veena's stretching routines! It's a perfect time to get those in. I really lack flexibility so that's one of my main goals this year. Do you drink the recovery drink? I notice that if I don't, I'll be wicked sore. That stuff really helps.

I drink muscle milk- not the p90x recovery drink although I really want to try it...I bulk fast too so I'll be doing the lean workout this second time around. I have man-ish muscles already but I do need definition (especially in my legs!) I have shingles, too. They f'in suck!! :( lucky I haven't had an outbreak in years.
Are their any links that anyone would reccommend for proper positioning for pullups? I have a pull up bar at home and have been working on negatives but I keep injuring my neck muscle! It takes weeks to heal. Luckily its back to normal again. I know form is everything. My neck is usually in a neutral postion as if I was staring straight. I dont flex or extend it when I do the negatives. Could it just be my neck muscles are too weak even for negatives?

Natasha, how about your shoulders? Are you keeping them down and engaged throughout the movement?

Natasha, what Kyrsten said and also, I have a tip. My trainer once told me to place the tip of my tongue against the back of my two front teeth during exertion. Somehow, it helps to keep your neck muscles from tensing up too much. I will say that this is a huge issue for me overall, and it does help!
Krysten, my shoulders are back and down (at least I think they are) kind of like were supposed to in poling. I dont hunch them forward. I will try the tongue tip trick though. I will try anything right now to avoid injury. I had bicep tendinitis for a good 7 weeks after overdoing it when I first got my pole. Im also bottom heavy.....just great :) At least I know when I can eventually pull my sorry butt up then I'm really strong.lol
Natasha, do you warm up your neck and shoulder muscles before doing them? You also could be pushing your neck down. Make sure you're breathing through the exercises - it's so easy to forget and when you don't breathe properly you strain your muscles to compensate. I'd say that you might be tensing your neck muscles without realising it. Sometimes it takes a second person pointing out bad form for us to realise.
I can do pull ups with my hands close together. But the wide pull ups are difficult. But. I'm still going to keep at it.
I am up to 12 pull-ups and 6 chin ups with proper form and no assistance and can do 20 pull-ups with chair assistance. Before P90X I could only do 3 and only with a chair. I love doing them but get really dissapointed when my mind says YES and my body says NO WAY and won't let me do more lol. This program looks promising http://www.twentyfivepullups.com/

LillyBilly can do 4 one handed pull-ups!!? This is really amazing! How on Earth can you do that? I have even not seen a man doing more than one. On a good day I am close to do one of these on a bar. Not 4!! But I can do close to 20 wide grip pull-ups. For me it is harder to do it with a narrow grip. Not more than 15 I think (if it shall be all the way up to the chin). Oh, I just love you strong women! So inspiring!
