Can't Stay High up On Pole

Hi there, I've just gotten back on the pole and I can't seem that stay in position. Here's what I mean: my grip is so weak that while I'm in a spin or something I just go lower down the pole. Before you know it I'm on the ground. Is there a trick that I'm not aware of that will keep me where I'm supposed to be longer? If you want to get an idea of what I mean take a look at my 5-6-09 Practice video and watch how I end up going down the pole like a rock LOL. Thanks for your help!

I watched your vid and here's my 2 cents 🙂 I think you're sliding down fast because there's not enough momentum in your spins. Make sure you walk faster into your spins so you get more of a swing. Spinning faster will keep you in the air longer. I think you're doing everything right, you simply need to move faster and with more momentum! You could also try some grip aids to prevent your from sliding, there are plenty of threads on those here. And if you pole regularly, your grip strength will also increase and you won't slide so much. Keep up the good work! 🌸

I would agree with the poster above me, you are not getting near enough momentum to keep your spins going. But to me I also need to ask: Were you wearing any lotion/body oils? (even if you had put them on earlier that day) Remember lotions and oils + poling never mix and you cant get a grip. I would also try giving your pole a good cleaning just in case. Good luck figuring it out!

Great points! Hadn't thought about the lack of momentum. I guess I think it should be slower, but I need to go a tad faster. No lotions, oils, etc. I even washed my hands with Dawn and rubbed them down with alcohol. Thanks for the tips. I'll keep you posted on how things go!!! 😀

I even washed my hands with Dawn and rubbed them down with alcohol. I recently read on the forums that alcohol on the hands can also lead to increased sweating! 😮 Maybe just washing your hands with soap is enough? ❓
