Well, I was really making some progress and now I've fractured my ribs and can't practice. I'm so afraid I'm going to lose all that I've learned in the past few weeks. Anybody else had to stop practice for a while?

You'd be surprised how much your body will retain. Sure, your strength will suffer, but in terms of the actual mechanics of the moves, muscle memory should kick in and you'll be back at it before you know it! Don't get down, just make sure to heal up those ribs good before getting back on the pole. Get well soon!
Pink, I've been dealing with bicep tendinitis for over a year. I had to take 3 months off the pole this time last year, and now I've again been off it since mid-October. I teach with one arm and a lot of talking. Your strength will come back quickly and your muscles will remember. In many ways, you'll come back stronger than you were before. The hardest part is just the mental anguish of missing out on pole time! Heal up totally, don't let it become chronic. Use the time to work on flexibility in your legs, that's my plan!
I'm so sorry about your ribs. When I first started I pulled a muscle in my rib cage, thought I'd fractured it due to the PAIN, but it wasn't. I had to stop poling for couple of months cuz it was so bad. I was able to get back and pick up where I left off. I had just started inverting and it came back. You'll jump right back in. The excitement and enjoyment of poling sure helps when you look forward to it!

I've taken breaks before and come back without too much of a problem. I'm currently on a break...so far it's been 2 1/2 months- totally voluntary- and I'm not worried at all. I may lose some strength, but like other people have said, it comes back. No big loses.
