I am not sure if someone already asked this and it seems like it would be a popular question. I couldn't find a post about it in this section so I'll ask away... How many calories do you burn when pole dancing? I know calorie burning has a lot to do with the intensity of the exercise and the person's weight, sex, and age. But I'm sure there is an average out there though.

There is a variance based on age, sex, pre-existing physical condition, so on and so forth. The variance is anywhere from 300-650 calories in 1 hr. Every year at the Interntional Pole Camp we do a caloric burn rate assessment. Because we have every different aspect...both sexes, different ages, body types...weights and physical levels! One girl had 1563 calories burned in 2hours and 56mins! 😲 She was not an advanced student! No inverts at that point, just spins and climbs! But from 40 people surveyed at the event over 2 days...our average # is 490! Number of calories burned also involves Intensity levels...many people pole for pleasure...not professional like some of us...so we will have actually a higher burn ratio...but in actuality burn less calories due to physical condition! High Intensity can actually burn up to 100 calories in 10 mins based on the level of activity!

BTW, it is typical for beginners to expend more calories than advanced students. The reason? They are less efficient in their movements so they struggle and work a bit more. As you get more experienced, you learn to conserve your energy and perform moves in the most efficient manner possible. Now you know how those crazy good polers do it without looking flushed! (well, not quite 😉 ) Alena, how COOL that you do that! Love the idea of documenting the athleticism involved in poling 😀 Fleur
I have been tracking my calories for years now so I didn't want to miss out on tracking pole dancing. Most calorie blogs don't have pole dancing listed though. 👎 And even if I burn less calories later the fact is that I'm still burning calories and any sort of exercise boosts up your metabolism. 🙂

I burn about 570 calories in 2 hours of pole dance. I burn about 170 calories in 45 minutes of bike riding (for fun, no crazy hills or speed.) So it depends how long you go, how much you do and as Fluer pointed out the better you get at it the less you'll burn. It's a great idea to eat something small before a pole session - not only do you want to have the energy but your body will burn a few more calories too. It's good to know how many calories your body needs. I just found out that I should be getting 2000 to 2500 calories per day. A big thing that a lot of people do wrong is limit their calorie intake AND workout and expend a lot of energy - this makes them weak and slows down the bodies process of converting fat to muscle. If anything the best diet I've seen coupled with exercise is the "hypoglycemic" diet. Eat 6 small meals a day keep your body fed and watered and it will do so many wonderful things!
Yeah well people who work out too much and eat too little end up being sick. That is just not a healthy thing to do.
