Buying a used pole

Hi everyone! So, I've been lurking around the site for a bit now, and I've decided for sure that I will be purchasing a pole. My question is, if I go for buying a used one, what should I look out for? Obviously, buying strange brands or ebay fakes should be primary concerns, but what else should I be aware of? And for that matter, is there a specific place where you can buy used poles? Craigslist doesn't yield much here (only the junk poles you can get at Spencers, if you're familiar with that store). Or is anyone local-ish to me (I live in the Dallas area) willing to sell me their used pole anytime soon?
