Buying a Pole.. advice?

I am a relatively new poler... about to start inverting in class in the next couple of weeks, and want to invest in a pole for home to practice. I'm sure this is the most asked question, but I am looking for advice on which pole to get. I know I want a SS, 50mm pole as that's what I practice on. Anyone have opinions on the one piece pole that mounts to the ceiling vs. the removable poles that don't mount with brackets? Thanks!

Xpole: Can easily be adjusted to fit any ceiling height so if you move or want to take it to a friend's house you can. Have not heard a lot about their stainless poles. PS: Easiest change from static to spin. Customer service has greatly improved in the last 6 months as well as quality control. Probably the "stickiest" stainless steel. LM: Once it is set to the proper height easiest to put up and take down. Requires drilling into a stud. Above 8 feet is unusable pole do to the way it adjusts. Probably the slippiest stainless pole. LM is going to be your cheapest option. PS and X are similar in cost.

You may wish to check with your studio to find out what pole you are using there...to my knowledge there is no "50mm" ss pole made but then if you are not in the US there may be a different one. Another option in ss is the PoleDanzer pole. It's 2" and it definitely grips better than any other stainless I've tried.

Thanks ladies! I've been thinking about this for a while, and our studio uses 50mm Lil Mynx SS poles. I'm concerned that if I get something with a better grip at home, that when I go to class I will have issues. Any thoughts on this?

oh...I never realized that LM came in mm ...I thought they measured their poles in inches!

If the studio has LM poles, then that might be a good starter pole for you! All of us eventually upgrade to a different diameter/ material eventually. I am already on my 3rd pole, and considering my 4th. I started on a stainless LM pole myself and I liked them, but as I progressed in tricks I found I wanted a "stickier" metal so I got a TG x pert. Then came the grip issue with my hands as my 50mm was just too big, so I got a 45mm brass (my love!) If you DID decide to get a different finish and diameter of pole from your studio, that is not a problem. It is actually a good thing to practice on many finishes and diameters. It gives you flexibility! 😉

My bad....I interchange 50 mm and 2" in my brain all the time so I really did not catch that nuance. LM did used to have 2" and 1.75" but now I see they are calling theirs 45 and 50mm. PS is still using English.

FYI, all of the poles: LM, x pole, and PS offer semi permanent ceiling mounts. If I could drill into my apartment, I would do that since they are a little more secure.

Platinum Stages- Do you have spinning poles for 8 ft ceilings that don't have that ridge about a foot up from the floor? I'm so short that when I do my spins it completely tears my legs up.

abonavo - The 1 piece poles can be flipped over and installed as a top loading pole. You just take that adjuster sleeve off. I did that with mine as I didn't like that sleeve either. does your pole spin? if it does, is it hard to change from spin mode to static once you changed it to top loading?

Yes it spins. It is super easy to change to spin mode and back. There is a little pin in the base. You just pull it out and it's in spin mode. To put it in stationary, you put the pin back in! It spins really smoothly too.

Since you say the pin is in the base of the pole, do you mean the top part since you switched it around? Also, do you have a preference for the SS or brass from PS? Any feedback on how good the friction mount is, and how often you need to adjust?

I think I'm leaning towards the PS pole. There was someone on here that was selling a LM rotating pole but my basement ceiling isn't 8 ft so I don't think I can make it work. The promo code that Erica provided didn't work on the website though. I'll have to double check with her to make sure it's correct. Also, since this is a friction mount, does it need to be mounted on a joist? The website made it seem as if it only needs to be mounted on a joist if it's a semi permanent or permanent pole.

abonavo- the pole and the top and bottom are 3 separate pieces. Basically all Sensual did was flip the pole...the bottom piece and top dome are still in teh same location. It is in teh bottom base piece that the pin is in to make it static/spin.

What Chemmie said. You can look at the rest of the pix in my PS pole album and see that the adapters on the top and bottom of the pole are the same, so either one will fit in either the base or the ceiling plate. Both adapters have the hole for placing the pin in. I personally like brass, but that is because I run on the dry side and have grip issues. It is also very dry in Oregon (despite all the rain) so gripping stainless steel is much harder in a dryer climate. If you like stainless steel and have no grip issues with it, then it is a great metal for spins and can be good for tricks once the pole is really warm. Brass is really amazing for tricks, it warms up really quickly, and I can do spins on it pretty well, although it can give some major pole burn on my hands and wrist. The friction mount on the PS pole is really good. I think it is much sturdier than my x pole. The PS plate and base have the silicone on the entire bottom, while the xpole only had a small ring. I had my x pole slip on me before; my PS pole has not slipped yet! :) I haven't had to adjust my pole since I put it up (I think it was a few months ago..I should probably take it down and let my ceiling settle...) Yes, the pole needs to go on a joist. Any of these poles will need to go on a joist. That is the only way they will be sturdy enough to support your weight. If they don't, they will pop right through the drywall. Lilmynx CAN make a pole shorter than 8 feet. Call them and talk to them about it. I believe there is an option on the checkout where you type in your exact ceiling height.

Will flipping the pole to be top loading work with a one piece pole instead of the multi piece?

I only have the one piece, so yes. It can be done with a multi too, but you need a special adapter (as I am told.)

Nevermind, your pictures really helped! It sounds like you have a one piece pole and were able to flip it. I know LM makes shorter poles, but there was someone that was selling a used one for cheaper but it's an 8 ft. I still think I like the PS poles. I'm probably going to bite the bullet and order one and pay the extra $100 than i was planning to spend.

You'll love it. The 1 piece is an awesome pole! You won't have to deal with joints ar anything. It's easy to put up and everything. I'm excited for their 38mm to come out!

I don't know if anyone knows, but I was going to call PS tomorrow and figured I'd ask here first since everyone has been so helpful! On the extreme one piece pole, it says that it's made for your ceiling height but adjusts up to 6". So if my ceiling measures 91 inches, and that is the size pole I request, does that mean it will adjust up to 97"? Because it also says that extensions can't be added to make the pole taller so I'm confused.
