Butterfly is typically done with the same hand being high as the leg on the pole, however I have also seen it done with opposite leg/arm placement. Does this have another name? I thought it did but I am even having issues trying to find where I had seen it before.

kinda like my profile picture? i tried to upload the pic like three times and for some reason it flips the image upside down. very frustrating. Anyways, I was wondering what it was called too. I just call it a butterfly variation, but im sure it has a name?

Wow chem is that u? Great picture (and pose) whever that is. I want to try that, seems like a bow & arrow from iguana hold, but one hand released to regrip by shoulder. Is this the move/pose u are asking abt? Don't onow any kind of official name for it myself either. @shana ur profile pose to me looks like an extended eros -- extended bc top leg is gripped @ ankle instead of @ knee, the way u'd do a basic eros (Brass Monkey-style) -- just like extended vs regular butterfly... I feel like in Butterfly whole body needs to be on one single side of the pole. Eros 1/2 body is one side, 1/2 is on the other.

I am. In butterfly you typically have right hand high/right leg on pole or left hand high/left leg on pole. I always thought people do this when they get their feet mixed up 😀 Happens to me a lot when after a combo I don't know which "side" feetwise I'm on in a inverted crucifix ....

I would still think it would be a butterfly.
As I followed up, people call it a modified butterfly or butterfly with cross hands. For some reason many moons ago in a forum far far away I thought I saw this listed as another name.

Post-class report: um, MOTH is hard! & scary (kinda) & weird... Maybe bc new? But I feel more tangled up in it than in b'fly, where I like (& count on) being able to open my whole body (hips & all) up outwardly, away from pole. W/"moth" I'm stuck centered acing
When I had posted this on a facebook group that was one thing I had mentioned, you really cannot transition into an extended butterfly fom it becaseu you are totally facing the pole. But I wonder if it is a good move to be able to get your balance for things like split grip inverted moves?

I think it might be, chem - maybe you could press your knee onto that outside arm to aid with balance? I think I saw something like that in one of the Art of Pole DVD's when practicing for an ayesha, though I could be wrong!
