bruises from bottom of xpole

Does anyone else have a problem with the older xpoles?  I find the large flange that goes on the floor...on my foot it scrapes my skin, and I get a bruise/goose egg on my shin.  Every time I do a front hook....and since I'm working on front hook on my non-dominant side a lot means I am developing scars. Is it just me?     Is the new xpole design smaller at the base?
