Bruises and shopping

This was so funny I had to share. I knew I had some bruises between my legs but it wasn't until we got home that hubby pointed out the ones on the backs of my thighs. Apparently a pair of women followed behind me while I was cruising through the Christmas section of the store and were gawking at them. He said they followed me for like 5 whole minutes bending over to get a good look at my thighs and quietly tip toeing after me each time I sauntered off. They were making faces the entire time and giving him nasty glares. We just busted up laughing. xD

Wow! I'm really jelous that it's so warm where you live that someone can see your bruises! Well I have a friend who went out for dinner with her boyfriend and when she went to the restroom a woman told her that she doesn't need to accept how she's being treated and that she should get some help. Funny story, but on the other hand I think we should be thankful that there are people out there caring for total strangers.

Hasnt happened to me yet, but just curious, what is a good way to respond to those kinds of comments to politely let them know that's not the case?

Rylon, it is better to tell them the truth-). Actually I had the same...My legs and arms were bruised and this summer my office manager came to me and asked if everything is ok at home...do I have quarrels with my boy-friend. I explained that I poledance and that it is tough sometimes and that I am very pleased he cares-)

Excellent answer Alina, to those that take the time to ask. This is one of the reasons we make the protective gear for Pole Dance/Fitness. Make no mistake, this is a bruising sport. Joel

A classmate's gyno asked her if "everything was ok at home" bc she had inner thigh bruises. She was so flustered and mortified that she just spat out "it's from exercise!"

I've had the "do you feel safe at home" question from my doctor too. I've since learned that it is often a mandatory question on the patient intake form, it doesn't necessarily mean they suspect abuse. The good news is, it usually means an opportunity to explain pole dance to a new person. :)

Yep - same here, although when I used to do a lot of weapon fighting it was worse - my forearms were always covered in bruises, which often looked like hand grips (my friends would politely ask me to cover up to avoid reprising looks) - always a difficult one to explain, and even the truth won't always set you free - 'why would you do that to yourself' has been a common theme. The way I look at it, I would much prefer to have to answer those questions of concern and looks of worry with an explanation for myself, than not have those looks of worry and questions of concern turned on someone else who perhaps needs the support and is in a bad situation.

I would have been happy to explain if the two women had asked me, but I find it just a little creepy that they followed me for 5 whole minutes and then walked away. Maybe they didn't want to mention something while hubby was with me but still. I mean eventually he wandered off and they followed me around so... I don't know. It was just funny. Next time I'll double check and wear pants to avoid little mishaps like that. For all I know the next person could make a big commotion about it.

Funny how people make those silly assumptions, hey? I laughed pretty good at that story when I ready it ;) With the bruises, I tend to show them off if they're in visible places. I'm like "HEY DID YOU SEE MY BRUISE?!" and then I explain how I got it, what I was doing, and how much it hurt. Often followed by an "I did it though!" Sometimes I'm so in-your-face about pole dancing with people! I think that if I had a whole bunch of bruises and people started suspecting my boyfriend, they would just have to see us together to understand. He's smaller than I am! He's totally strong and I can't knock him down, but he doesn't look like it. Long hair, svelte figure, he doesn't look like the fighty-type. ;) I would laugh if it was suggested :P
