Hello everyone! I've finally decided to start pole dancing and I want to buy an X-Pole, as I think it'll be easier for me to improve if I can practise at home. I'm not sure what thickness should I start with. What would you suggest is better, 50mm or 45mm? Thank you :)

Hi I started training on a 50mm but when I was introduced to a 45mm it has had my heart since, depends on the person I have small hands so a 45 is perfect for me personally, if you know someone or a studio near you who has both defo try both out, I find 45 is good for my ayesha, straight edges stuff like that but a 50 is also good for leg grip, nearly everyone I know who poles loves their 45 but the taller girls with bigger hands love their 50, if you can try both out, you'll know straight away hope this helped
I started out with a 50mm. I am tall and have bigger hands, so it works fine for me. I did test a 45mm in Maine a bit ago and for some tricks, I actually enjoyed the 45mm. In a perfect world, we'd have every kind of every size :) (Maybe one day!!) But I think it depends on preference really. I agree with Megandempzz6008, try to find a studio near you so you can test out both 45mm and 50mm. Good luck and welcome to the pole community!

I have a 50mm lil Minx pole I would personally recommend the 45. I will be switching to a 45mm xpole soon.

I used 50 at the studio but I bought a 45 for home, and I prefer my 45, and I'm not particularly small at 5'7" and don't have particularly small hands either.

If you do not have access to actual poles to try out, you could go to Pole Depot, I mean Home Depot. In the plumbing department is 2" outside diameter pipe which is close to 50mm. Just no inverts in the aisles please.

I'll weigh in with another 45 mm suggestion. I've got a 50 mm TG (I definetly recommend TG for the grip) I've never actually tried a 45 mm but it isn't hard to imagine that a bit smaller would create less strain.
I've owners two 45 poles (one in chrome and my current is TG) but also used 50 and 38 at studios. I definitely recommend 45. I find it's a good compromise between being good for smaller hands while still good for leg grips. It also means if you find yourself using 38s or 50s in studios or comps then it's less of an adjustment either direction.

I started out on my 45mm because I couldn't grip the 50mm very well. I also have the skinny 40mm which I LOVE.. It's not for everyone though. My hands are small, so it's a lot easier for me to grip the 40. :) I'd say 45mm is great for anyone.
I recommend 45. I started on a 50 in the studio and bought a 45 for home. Love my 45 TG. Wishing they had a 40 TG in the US.

At my studio I have all three, 40, 45 and 50. I have only one girl enjoying the 50, she is really tall and has big hands. Most go for the 45. Some girls with small hands like the 40, but sometimes have problems with leg grip. So my suggestion would also be 45.
