Hi everyone!! Hoping Someone could help me!! So I've been stretching to get more flexi and I've been getting pain in the back of my knee when I stretch. Is this normal? Does anyone else get this pain? It can be quite painful at times

I had that too. I think it's normal to feel that because you're actually stretching the leg straighter than it's been before. As soon as the back of the knee is stretched out, you won't feel that anymore. And your leg will go straighter too, which makes your pole dancing lines cleaner. :)

It's because your'e hyperextending the knee- generally this happens when you're working on splits and especially hamstrings... the backs of the knees get painful because you don't have enough flexibility in the muscles to allow for the amount of stretch you are forcing. but no, this shouldn't be happening and you can cause damage to the ligaments and cartilage if you continue to push that hard.

First you need to decide if its pain or just discomfort? Sharp, stabbing or something that makes you suddenly say OUCH 😲 are words you might use to describe pain. This is NOT what you should feel when you stretch. Discomfort, is normal when stretching and words like tension, and pulling might be used to describe a stretch. If your not stretching past normal range of motion your not hyper extending. So it may or may not be the issue. You could just have really tight hamstrings! Changing the stretches you're using may help. In the lessons there are several stretches for the hamstrings if your interested.
does the pain linger afterwards when you are not stretching and just standing around or walking? if yes, that may be an indicator of something... not sure what... lol
Thanks for everyones reply! I eased up on my stretch today and had a slight bend in my knee just to relieve the tension and that really helped. I think you are right Veena, my hamstrings are tight. I will be doing your stretches for hamstrings :) Thanks again!!!! :)
I have tight hamstrings and have always had that little pain on the back of the knee (and it's also more on the inner side of the back of the knee). I actually have been able to lessen it by foam rolling that tiny spot before and after stretching. It is uncomfortable to foam roll that part, but I just breathe through it! I've been stretching consistently now for almost 3 months and I'm just now noticing less pain in that area when in a straddle or split position :-)

Story that is awesome to hear!! I get that sensation a lot too - it is so frustrating for me because I have flexibility to do splits but it is very uncomfortable under my knee, and that kneepit tension is what keeps me from having a flexy pike stretch =( I'll definitely be trying the foam roller and some extra hamstring stretches now!!
I'm glad to hear its not just me! I don't have my splits right now but when I was younger and was flexy, I could still feel that tension. I don't feel it in a pike stretch though...I only feel it in straddle, front and middle splits. But straddle stretch is by far the worst pain in that spot for me!
Oh my god! I have literally just finished my stretching and came on here to post a thread about this stupid knee! It's almost like a tingle pain and I can't go any further... Obviously that's where I need to stop anyway at resistance but it sometimes clicks? Only one knee really, is that what everyone's getting?

Mine is not tingly and I have it on both knee pits in the exact same spot. It's like an extreme tight feeling (very different from an intense stretch) that will not loosen. But like I mentioned earlier, massage is painful but it works wonders!
