Anyone had bikini/brazilian wax job done?

Ok...I've never had bikini/brazilian wax job done before...and last month I bought a GiGi brazilian hard wax kit. Soooo..I gave myself my first wax job...(It hurts and it sounds scary....but it still hurts WAY less then a Gemini...) Anyway...I read that some people get red bumps right after they wax...that I never experienced, however...what I experience is the opposite. I start to get bumps when the hair is starting to grow back. Anyone had experience in this??? 😕

I had several (yes, I'm a masochist). The bumps may have to do with irritation, and a good way to abate that is to moisturize, and use witches haze on the affected area. I'm in awe that you would do it yourself....Me? I'm too chicken. :)

Another possibility could be ingrown hairs. If I get any of those from waxing I use Tendskin and it always works for me. Another thing you can do is make sure to exfoliate the area with a loofah.

Thanks ladies...I just bought a bottle of PFB Vanish from Amazon..I can't wait till it get here!! (I like the rolling feature..and it's suppose to work like Tend Skin) I have more questions... 1) Does the bump marks you get ever go away? (red/brown spots...you get the idea) 2) Can I use PFB Vanish/Tend Skin when the hair is growing out or it only works when you put it on right after you wax? @MissChiefNYC - I figure there can't be more pain then poling...LOL It's actually not that bad, some parts hurts like !@#$%, which is the area in front, all the other area doesn't hurt too much (on a scale of 1 to 10....front = 9, everywhere else = 6-7) Plus, I bought the kit with everything for $40 w/ free shipping (I read it last 6-7 wax)...a wax job alone can cost $65/wax.

Oh Finreah I didn't see your post when I pretty much repeated what you said lol I forget what the directions for Tendskin say but I just use it if I have an ingrown hair to get rid of it but i think some use it beforehand as a preventative measure.

I get a brazillian every 4 weeks. I tried to use the Gigi at home kit which ended with me laying on the bathroom floor with dried wax all over my business and my boyfriend had to come in with a low dryer and rip it from me. It was an awful attempt to save money. If you are experienced with waxing yourself, go for it! But I get mine done professionally. As for the bumps it sounds like ingrownhairs for sure. My gal tells me to exfoliate and moisturize moisturize moisturize (especially 3 days before waxing) to prevent ingrown hairs. Let is know if that product works!

I have extremely coarse hair and have this problem. Supposedly the more you wax the finer your hair gets but this has never been true for me.

@chemgoddess - Would tea tree oil work?? (The only thing that I have contains salicylic acid I have is the Neutrogena face wash...) i ordered the PFB Vanish...but it'll take several days to arrive =( @SashaMae - I'm NOT an experience waxer...This is my FIRST TIME...LOL But..the wax job felt ok...like I mentioned, no redness or bumps after I wax...it's when the hair grow back...that's when the issue begin T_T

I maintain my brazilian myself as well. I'd rather me do something like that than some other person. I've been doing this for a couple years now and have a "semi-perfected" method that works for me. I'll share what I've learned. First I'd like to note that I've read articles that doctors say waxing is safer than shaving due to cuts, irritation, etc. but you can burn yourself if wax is too hot. I use gigi wax, have a warmer (not the hard wax stuff). Take a shower a few minutes before to soften the skin. I have tried the GiGi Anesthetic Numbing spray (nah!); Now I use Numbing antiseptic with chamomille extract (get at Sally's Beauty Supply online). I apply that several times over a few minutes and it really helps. Then take a stout shot of crown royal and let the treatment begin. HA! After I apply remove after was remover to clean off residue. Then I apply bikini soothing cream. Then the daily care treatment I've learned is dermabrasion- I use one of those facial buff puff things and hibiclens soap. Each day in shower give a slight scrubbing to area and apply the bikin soothing cream daily. This prevent ingrown hairs, helps with any irritation of shaving rash if you touch up. This dermabrasion was the trick for me.

as a follow-up; if you use hte numbing antiseptic with chamomille you need to make sure you let it dry before applying any wax or it will cause a gunking up of wax and that is NOT pleasant to deal with. It that happens, use the after wax remover to clean up and call a "do over" - start again.

Make sure to exfoliate! That way you won't have to deal with the ingrown hairs as much. Also, tea tree oil works really well to calm irritated skin :) I was getting waxed regularly and I have really sensitive skin, so those two things definitely saved me. Spa gloves and a natural exfoliator do wonders.

At age 29, I've been getting Brazilians (everything off) since 17 yo every 2-3 weeks. I love being smooth is an understatement. I have horrible coarse hair there, every where else is conditioned to finer hair. Everyone is unique in this. My esthetican has advised me not to soften the skin with long warm bathes before, accidentially pulls more skin & can tear, rip off skin. Epsom salt is ok for afterwards (if it works for you- bruise wise), exfoliate when skin is soft, but don't use oils afterwards- clogs the pores then it'll worse. I will have to debate on pole sits if I just got waxed the day before due to the pressure it might cause irritation (nice be thighs) & bumps from ingrowns or plugged pores. If you have an estie ask the best way to treat, or call one at a salon (that's experienced with that wax job, with happy clientele) they've seen everything, (maybe not your everything), so they've probably heard everything. And esties have to recertify frequently & choose to go to conferences, so they'll be familiar with many lines that work for dilemmas. They also have different kinds of wax, hard, dry, hot; and might know what is the best angle for different growth patterns that you might not see. Bests!

I get a Hollywood wax every month (all off) and I suffer SO badly with ingrowns. It got to the point where I can no longer shave without my skin looking red and raw for about 2-3 days afterwards. The waxing is generally fine afterwards but when regrowth starts it is a nightmare. The ingrowns are insane! I used every method possible, I moisturise with tea trea oil and shea butter, I exfoliate and I use salicylic acid as well. But I still end up with distressed skin. So I have begun Laser Hair removal treatment. Can't wait to be bumps and ingrown free soon!

Hi Mechie! I feel your pain - it sounds like, as the girls have said, you're suffering from ingrown hairs. Basically, the hairs are regrowing from the root and are getting caught under the skin as they grow which causes irritation. This has been the bane of my life since I started waxing my bikini line. I've been doing it for myself for a few years but I recently went to a professional and she recommended moisturising at least once a day and exfoliating twice a week. I've been exfoliating more than this and it has actually irritated my skin more. I decided to go to a professional prior to a performance for peace of mind but I also wanted to try hot waxing which helped my ingrowns. Hope that you're back to normal soon!

A really easy way to make your own tendskin: 70% Rubbing Alcohol $1 Witch Hazel toner $1 20-25 crushed uncoated aspirin $1 Mix 2:1 parts of alcohol to witch hazel, add crushed aspirin, shake well and let dissolve for several hours. Not all of the aspirin will dissolve, so make sure to shake the bottel before use. My BF swears by this mixture for his manly shaving needs, and I occasionally use it for ingrown hairs as well!

My cousin, who is owns a beauty therapy clinic, tells me that the ingrown hairs are often due to the wax being the wrong temperature and if you get a good waxer you won't have this problem. She is right, I never used to get any ingrown hairs, changed therapists and started having a problem, tried the tend skin and everything to no avail. I now have moved to another therapist, I asked my cousin to recommend her best waxer, I had previously been going to another clinic and hey presto - no more problems.

I used to get many ingrowns.. BUT NOW.. I use Laser Hair removal. My goodness. Best thing I've ever done. Yes.. it hurts. But if you can stand a brazillian, you can stand this, and the results are well, well worth it. Can't recommend it enough.

I agree with MissMeliss on the laser hair removal. Best money I've ever spent on myself! I used to go get waxed, and it was expensive, then I used to wax myself with the GiGi Honey kit. I actually got good at it (thank goodess I was born flexible haha!) however it was messy and took up a lot of my time. I decided to save up for laser, and wow is it worth the investment. It hurts much less than waxing, kind of like a rubber band snapping at you. Skin is a bit raw for a day but nothing a little hydrocortisone cream won't relieve. It's pricey, but where I live, there are always Groupon or LivingSocial deals that pop up, and the place I go to offers a huge discount during Black Friday. So I stock up then... It comes out cheaper than regular waxing maintenance that way. Just a few more treatments to go, and I will be reaching my ideal hairlessness nirvana! Hehe...

Ok - Followup...I've been using PFB Vanish...and it WORKS LIKE A CHARM!! Oh my gosh..this is the first time I didn't get ANY ingrown hair! No red bumps..nothing!! I just came back from a 10 days vacation and I waxed myself right before my trip...after I waxed, I put on the cooling gel, then I roll on the PFB Vanish. After that, I apply it once every other day or so. It doesn't sting at all, however, it feels a little "warm" after you apply it, it's not burn, just slight warm, after 1 min or so, the warmth will go away. I highly recommend this product! Now I'm one happy smooth and pain free girl...LOL

Ugh, I tried waxing and epilating and got such horrid ingrown hairs. I've stopped and gone back to shaving but the damage is done my legs are covered with browny purple scars. Hate hate haaaate it. Has anyone had any luck with fading scars from waxing? I'm hoping they will over time but so far no luck :(
