Does anyone have any idea where I could find a pair of shorts similar to the ones she's wearing in this video? I think they would be awesome for a pole dance for my boyfriend. Oh my God. 😮 I had to get off that site quick; they have some really awesome stuff, but I whine about paying $20 for a pair of panties! I'll keep looking and see if I can find anything cheaper. I'll post a link if I can find it.

I was actually just wondering if my sister might be able to make something similar to them. She's been getting into sewing lately. She's really pretty good at it, but she's still just making fairly basic stuff so I don't know if she could do something like that yet. Mora, I'll keep an eye on your Etsy profile--I love Etsy, btw--but let us know when you start putting stuff up. Also, I'm not sure if it would be a copyright issue to sell something similar to the AP pair--Ive come across a few other pairs that are basically the same thing as the ebay link I put up to the panties with the lace up the back and they're all different brands. I think it's kind of hard for one person to claim they have the market cornered on something--otherwise only one company gets to make see-through lace tangas, crotchless thongs, bikini cut, etc. etc. I would just alter it slightly. AP used transparent material--maybe you could use just solid black in whatever material you wanted to work with. That way it's pretty much the same thing but not an exact copy. It's worth looking into, anyway, because I would totally buy a pair if you could come up with some kind of design. I'd love the AP ones, but cannot justify the money for them.
I can definitely do something like those; I've been sewing since I was little so I'm not Alexander McQueen yet, but I can definitely make most things to a professional standard :) yeah I have all my pages set up ready so that when I have everything made I can just stick them on there instead of having to worry about the web stuff, lol. I think I'd do them slightly different anyway - I've never seen wet-look lace anywhere before! But still, it's also quite a distinctive design, and if people sold the exact same things as designer items at lower prices, the designers would never make any money. So they always have to be slightly different - that or they're technically illegal, ha. But yeah I can do my version of it =] when I've put stuff up you can tell me if you like it and if you want something slightly different I'll probably be able to customise it a little if you want =]
It is fairly distinctive, but I think a couple of unique touches from you would set it apart enough to avoid problems. Also, while I'm not entirely clear on copyright stuff, people make designer knockoffs all the time. There's a brand of perfume I get that that's all they do--replicate expensive designer perfumes. I'm not sure high end designers care all that much, because, let's face it, if someone likes brand names and has the money for them, they're going to buy the super expensive Gucchi purse and not get the knockoff for half the price. Can't wait to see what you've got! I'm on Etsy all the time, so I'll probably be lurking creepily on your profile now to see if there's anything new. lol

Nope, there is no such thing as copyright infringement on a clothing design unless the clothing has some type of new utilitarian functionality. You can copyright a pattern design however, so don't buy a pattern and then try to sell what you make from that unless it has been significantly altered. I know that for illustration copyright the difference has to be at least 25% but for patterns I'm not sure. It is fine to draft your own pattern from pre-exsisting clothes though. My mother went to fashion design school for a time and I learned from her and lots of books so I've researched this specific. I am planning to open an Etsy shop eventually myself but dance clothes will not be my only focus.

Hmm sounds a little odd... I mean, I'm pretty sure (in fact, certain) that I could make those exact shorts just from looking at the pictures; and I'm just a college fashion student, so presently I have no qualifications whatsoever. Had I been through the rest of college & uni, I could DEFINITELY take every design from their website, draft my own patterns for exact copies, and sell them at reduced prices. I could come up with a brand name like Agent Practeur or something that sounds slightly different but is still obviously related to Agent Provocateur, and sell them all in the same way. Yes some people would want the originals for the sake of having the originals, but not most, lol. Designs are copyrighted too; says so on the websites usually. Not for the sake of arguing lol but it just seems like a really stupid thing NOT to copyright your designs when other people can so easily copy them!

I'm not sure what the debate is because it's obvious this sort of thing does go on all the time. You can copyright a pattern, yes. You cannot copyright a style of clothing or garment itself. I know it sounds odd, but that's the law for you. If you take a Disney character and change it's eye color and hair color and call it something slightly different they can't do anything about it. It's not the same thing but you get the picture. Draft your own pattern and you win. You would have to somehow get to a designer's copy of the pattern itself to literally steal their design. Anyway, most designers do not wish to go around stealing other's exact designs because then they wouldn't be designers. Just imitators. That's not art, it's boring and lame (if that's your profession).
