Amateur Night...

Hello Ladies! So this is my first new topic post ever and I don't really know any of you ladies personally, but I love reading the forum discussions and was looking for some advice. I've been taking pole dancing lessons for the last 6 months and totally love this form of exercise and self expression. I have always been interested in dancing at a club and after losing my job a few weeks ago, I thought, maybe this is my time to try? After doing my research and checking out the local clubs, I found the place I'd like to work at. I brought my bf, a good girl friend, and my sister (she was horrified when I told her what I was thinking of doing....but then got really curious, so we brought her with us). The club had a really friendly atmosphere and the staff and dancers were all nice. I was able to find one of the club managers and asked him if they were hiring (I have no idea how one goes about getting a job as a dancer), and he told me to come by one Sunday night when they have amateur night to audition. I've been working on coming up with a routine, something flexible because I want to make sure I work the entire stage. It's a huuuuge stage, the dancers come out of a door in the middle of the stage and walk down a staircase and there are 2 poles on either end of the stage. I noticed a lot of the dancers did a lot of floor work and little to no technical pole work; I might have a leg up there (no pun intended). I'm nervous about this dance, afraid of falling off the stage or down the stairs, or tripping on my g-string when I take it off.....lol In the next few days I hope to post my first video of my sorta-routine and maybe get some feedback. If anyone has any helpful hints and/or advice I'd be sooooooooooo grateful 🙂

Im so glad you posted this, I'm thinking about doing the same thing and I'm going to go to an amateur night on the 29th...I guess I should try to plan out some sort of routine as well so I don't look like a complete idiot. Let me know how it goes I'd love to see your video!

I second that Roxy! Id love to see a vid from you maggz and one from you glitter! Ive always wanted to be a dancer in a club but Derm (my bf) would be extremely uncomfortable with it so I doubt that I'll ever get the chance! You should definately go for it! I wish you the best of luck with your audition and if by some chance something does go wrong, giggle it off and keep going. Try not to freeze up and run off the stage bawling, I dont think that would bode well with the manager. If you can laugh at yourself I think it would be appreciated! 😀

It's kinda funny you brought this up... Sascha and I are planning on getting together and going to an amateur night at a club in my area, but we're doing it for fun and not as an audition. My only suggestion is have a very flexible routine. Don't have every beat of the song move-for-move memorized and down-pat. Otherwise you may end up with a very stilted performance. Have maybe the beginning and big parts of the song planned out, but maybe at the low parts of the song plan on using that time to work the crowd a little bit, etc. Not to mention that if you have a routine all worked out and, heaven forbid, something bad does happen you're whole thing will be out of whack the rest of the song. But like one of the other girls said, if something happens, keep going and smile and be cute about it ("oopsie daisy!" 😉 ) It's the confidence that gets people's attention. 👍 The funny thing is I'm saying all this and I'll be scared sh*tless myself to go up on stage when Sascha and I get together here in a little over a month! 😂

Just watch the other girls and immitate. Floor is hard when you don't know what you are doing, but I do know poleing can get you more money. Start doing push-ups, build the arm muscles it takes to do anything on floor. LOL. You are pushing yourself up a lot, so being able to support your own weight is important. Plus, you pole so your arm muscles are probably good. It takes a lot of muscle control for poling (which you know), but just as much for floor work. Also, you can make a routine, but my advice is have an even mix of the two and read which one the crowd pays attention to more and then for your 2nd song do more of that type. Or you could do one strictly floor and one strictly pole, but it is all about how you feel. Also, pay attention to the types of "tricks" you do for money on the tip rail, cause you will run out of things to do for them. AND know what you are comfortable with and most importantly have a GOOD TIME! 😛 And unless it is part of the rules, you don't HAVE to take the G-string off, dance floors can get icky. 🙂
