Allegra side pain

Hello all, I don't think the Allegra is truly comfortable for anyone, but I'm having extra trouble with it. I can get into it from my right side, but when I try it on my left, it causes problems. When I'm rotating my body so that my back it to the pole, I'll get about halfway, and then I'll feel a snap, and I'll get an intense pain in my side. It will last for several days to a week; the closest thing I can compare it to is getting kicked by a horse. This has happened 3-4 times now. Each time, I've waited until my side feels better before I try it again, but if anything it's getting worse. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Does anyone know what's happening, or how to make it better? Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks to your advice, I got the allegra tonight after attempting the jade. It doesn't look smooth and beautiful like Veena's and Charley's yet but I'll get there someday (hopefully). I just want to say thank you for all your help and how grateful I am to be a part of the community :)

I too got Allegra last night and got WICKED cramp in the top leg, so bad it still hurts today- ouchie. No side pain/burn though :-)

@ShonaLancs: You may want to warm up and stretch your legs and hips, especially your hips, before doing the allegra because like the ladies here said your hips need to open wide when doing this move

Thanks for that advice but I was very warm although not very stretched. The cramp was in my calf :-/

I am able to do the Allegra but I'm very uncomfortable in that position.... It's not so much the pressure of the pole near my waist area, it's more on my knee. Because I find this move so uncomfortable to do, I RARELY do this move. Not to mention I have a pretty short torso so trying to wrap this thing around a big pole is hard to do. Please just be aware that not everyone can accomplish ALL the pole moves known to mankind. Just listen to your body, if it's hurting for more than a week, there's something wrong and you should not continue to try and nail this move. And that's honestly OK to not be able to accomplish all the moves in the book. Please take more caution and care of your bodies my lovely Veeners! ❤️

I thought the pole rests on the lower thigh, didn't know it can cause pain in the knee? I agree that we shouldn't hurt ourselves by trying too hard, but sometimes it's so attempting that we can't resist experimenting :D

@ShonaLanc: how did you have the cramp in your calf in the allegra?

I have no idea! It just came on (I get cramp at least once a month in my calf/toes randomly!) I assume it was induced by pointing my toes too much?! Odd!

Cramping in the lower extremities can be brough on my dehydration and/or low potassium. It seems to kick in more when inverted! I usually try to eat a banana the day I pole. Of course we all know to increase our water intake, but sometimes towards the end of a strenuous workout it can get depleted.

Here's the list to remember according to one of our Sports Medicine Doctors I worked with that treated athletes, #1 water,#2 Calcium, #3 potassium. The top thing your muscle needs is water, because it is made up of approx. 75% water. Since I increased my water intake 5 1/2 years ago, I haven't had a muscle crap since. When I first started poling they were AWFUL! . I drink about 2 gals a day depending on my activity. Allot of Doctors will tell you if you wait until you feel thirsty to drink water, your already somewhat dehydrated. Sips all day long and frequently are recommended.

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Also if you find that you are still cramping some - it could be that your calves are tight. Do some gentle calf stretches before trying this and try it again. Due to my limited flexibility - I found that has I got more flexible I could feel it in different areas and my calves are EXTREMELY tight - tighter than my hamstrings and hips - which was throwing off my splits plans.
