Alethea's "Stretching for Pole" DVD review

I know some of you are dying to know what it's like, so here goes! I got a lot out of this vid. I'm pretty flexible, but I'm always interested in seeing if I can get MORE flexible and I believe this product will do it! It has passive, active and ballistic stretches (didn't know there WERE ballistic stretches) and everything is explained pretty well without going into too much detail. What I liked about this: 1) the music (going to have to buy some Mother Tongue). It might not be to everyone's taste, but it makes me feel all *rawr* which I love when I'm stretching. The graphics, including the "warning advanced" signs 2) the warm up which was slinky and delicious, but I may need to dance around on cold days beforehand 3) the "take a break, that was intense" bit (it really was!) 4) the pole stretches and ones to incorporate into your dance and 5) the free dance which I danced with her (doing my own version, of course). It is a work out, make no mistake, but I found it highly enjoyable and I learned a lot! What I was not crazy about: 1) there were times when I had my head down and the position switched and I was unaware of this. I would recommend watching it a couple of times beforehand so you can position yourself accordingly 2) there were a couple of times I could not see the feet when it would have greatly benefitted me to do so (the foot circles in the warm up and a back stretch on the pole) and 3) no incorporation of foam roller-ing in the work out itself. I think Veena has spoiled me for this! Still, I could and probably will foam roller after the warm up, now that I know how. You can even do the warm up, then pole, then do the stretching! Now some of you may try this video and feel suicidal about what you can do versus what she can do. She addresses this by telling us that it took her 3 years of hard work to get to where she is. One day splits another day stretching. OK, I rest on weds from workingout. I will try my split dvd 2nite.

Here is what i did with my dvd´s: I don´t know if you have the time to do the dvd´s 5 times a week like Alethea suggested it. Well, i have the time but most of the time i am to lazy (sad but true) to do an hour streching-routine 5 times a week IN ADDITION to pole dance, strength training and my full time job. So i copied my dvd´s to my Computer to create my own streching routine with windows movie maker. i made a little video with only the warm up. Then i cut 3 different streching-routines-videos together, so i can choose one video depending on how much time i have. I made a 20 minutes video with very basic streches that i can do even on very busy days (so that i have no excuses anymore :) ). Then i made a 35 minutes video including a few deeper streches and streches for the splits also. And i cut a video together including all the streches of both dvd´s but i cut out a few streches that repeat in the second dvd and i cut out the streches that are way to hard for me yet. So if i have the time to concentrate only on streching, i can do this dvd, which lasts a little over one hour without changing the dvd in the middle of my training or to fast forward the streches that i have already done with the first dvd or that are to difficult for me. So now i can choose what routine i want to do depending on my time and depending on if i want to add strength training or pole dance also on the same day. Maybe it is something you want to try. I hope that i can include at least the short video 5 times a week in my everyday life to improve at least in the basic streches faster. Sorry for the long post :-D

Thanks to all of your feedback I ordered the DVDs and I was just wondering if someone can let me know... For those that stretched 5 times per week did you alternate between the pole DVD and the splits DVD or are we supposed to do the pure splits DVD 5 times a week? I like your tip of editing the DVDs Lengo I think I will keep that idea in mind for when the DVDs get here :)

Well I think which dvds you do is totally up to you :-) She says at the beginning of each dvd to do it 5 times a week to gain flexibility and 3 times a week to maintain flexibility. It kinda depends on your goals which one you should do. If the main goal are the splits I'd concentrate on the pure splits. If you want back flexibility as well then do the stretching for pole as well. I think Alethea also said somewhere that the stretching for pole is more suited for beginners. I personally had great results with alternating between both dvds :-)

@lengo83 - what programs did you use to copy the dvd and edit it on your computer? I've been wanting to personalize the routine myself for a long time because there are certain stretches I just can't do yet that I'd like to cut out until I'm more flexible, and it's a pain to fast-forward...

@HollySatine I just inserted the dvd to my Laptop and copied the video sections (3 on each dvd) per drag and drop to a new folder. When i inserted the dvd to my laptop it immediatley started to play the dvd with the windows media player. I closed the player and opened the data file (?!) of my dvd drive. There you find the different files of the dvd with the video sections. (?!? Wow, it´s hard for me to describe tech related things even in german (because i am very clueless with computer things). I hope that it is understandable and that i use approximately the right words here 😕 ). Then i edited the videos in windows movie maker. It is pretty simple but also a lot of work because it takes so much time. I worked on this project for several hours. I changed it two times but now i am very pleased with my last result.
