Hey guys, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8nGP9a8kQQ I'm trying to do the spin at 0:30. it looks so simple! But I cant seem to get my hips far out enough to get anywhere. And when the pole catches my knee, it hits the side of the knee where it does not bend . How do I manoeuvre so that the pole will get my knee pit? Any tips, or maybe a tutorial if anyone knows of one? Thanks

Hi Rylonn, I'm no expert but have just started working on the elbow spin. I haven't tried this variation yet but when i was working on the spin, I would go into it like a normal backwards spin, with my left hand holding the bottom of the pole and my right arm bent, like amy has in her video. I then would let go of the bottom arm once I had moved my body into position. Sorry, I know that is isn't really 100% what you were looking for but maybe this will help you to get your leg into position? I'll try the move tonight and see if I can shed any light.
it looks like a juliet spin with an elbow hold, here's a tutorial for the spin itself, practise that then work on changing your hold would be my advice :) hope that helps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INXPJa_YJEk
A Juliet spin variation, yep, teachtrinity is right on the money! :) Make sure you're not hooking your elbow too high, or your hips won't be able to get any distance from the pole. Also, make sure your plant foot is far enough away and to the side of the pole. If you're planted behind the pole you won't get your outside leg/kneepit in front of the pole.
That's a really pretty spin. I've never seen it before. I think I'm going to have to go try that one right now.

Oh I've never seen this Juliet spin. Thanks guys so much! I'll give it another shot. Also, any tips for a strong elbow grip? Or is it pretty much a strength thing?

A strong elbow grip requires both strength and pain tolerance. We work on the pain tolerance at our studio buy gripping the pole with your elbow, lean away, and do a few laps around the pole... It hurts but you get used to it.

And is this gripping the pole and leaning away done with only the elbow, and the other arm hangs free?
I started playing around with this today. Just the regular grip on static, not the way aerial Amy did it. It definitely works better when you trust yourself and really lean out into it, arch your back and drop your head back. I see this becoming my new favorite spin. Thanks for sharing!

Just one elbow, hang the rest of your weight away. I would send you a video, because you can turn it into a dance move, but I'm at my parents for the week and have no pole. :/ I feel weird without one!
This is a very pretty variation of the juliet! I was trying to work on the devils elbow and haven't had success with the pain tolerance yet! Korinne - I'm excited to meet you and pole together at the Pink Lemon jam, I'll try to remember that I want to try this!
