Does anyone have any tips to maintain the spin when doing this? I am going from figure head to shoulder mount (off the ground) and no matter how super fast my pole is spinning, it comes to a complete stop the moment I release my legs for shoulder mount. I've tried straight legs, one knee bent, both knees bent when doing it and nothing works...any tips?!?!

Maybe the momentum of your legs can help spin and keep frog leg at first even though it may not be as "pretty" to do this, it should help. Congrats on aerial shouldermount!
I'm wondering if I'm going to need to windmill my legs like when doing a chopper...but that just seems like it would be wicked hard lol! I'll keep trying :-)
I was thinking that but it might be super hard...only one way to find out;)
Do you have a vid?? It would be easier to help if we could see it. Are you hesitating at all? I need it to be one clean (& quick) movement from figure head up. What shoulder do you use and which direction are you attempting to spin? You don't have to "windmill" but I do lead a bit with my same side leg (as shoulder on pole).. But I had to tuck to start I believe. I will do a couple in my practice tonight and try to analyze the movement more lol
I will post one in a few days when I practice again. I don't think I'm hesitating...I do a variation of the back knee hook with right hand high, then turn to the right direction into figure head and Shouldermount on my right. Let me know if you figure out any mechanics in your practice tonight - thanks :-)

When I've done this, I do slow down (almost stop sometimes) while lifting, but then once my legs reach the pole, it's like "hang on to your hats" -- somehow spin picks up new life to a crazy degree. That doesn't happen to u?
Of course loll! Back hook to sm is my fav, but I did it last night spinning forward. Do you move the right hand to the lower before lifting? Also for this version i like Veena grip. My vid from 3/6/13 shows me doing it. I will do it tonight too and make sure you can see me move my hands. I slow down a little but not nearly stopping and yes the spin gets faster once your legs are up.
Watch your video - I don't know what is going on with me lol! I do have with right hand being the lowest...I'm practicing it tomorrow so I'll definitely make sure to record and post a video :-). I was spinning crazy fast before lifting into it - then when I went to lift, dead stop, then place my legs on into crusafix, it maybe spun like 1/4 turn...nothing :-(. Maybe I'll have better luck in practice tomorrow!
Oh - and I use regular cup grip. I'm most comfortable with that. My elbows are in nice and tight too. I can't think of what could cause this problem.

Hmmm. Not sure if this helps, but it seems like you have a hesitation on your way up where your booty is pretty far away from the pole for a while, which slows you way down. Maybe try to tuck a little more? Good luck! It is really pretty!
Have you considered that the pole may be installed too tight or the ball bearings need lubricating? It sounds like the problem is with the pole, not with yourself, as the pole should slow when you extend off of it and resume the same intensity of spin when you finish the inversion and come back in close to it.
I think that since this is a really heavy move on spin mode, you are most probably exerting some force on the pole by your shoulder as you pull yourself up. This force is in some way killing the spin so it's not just about the pole slowing down because your bum is far out. Exactly this problem was brought up in another thread not long ago, so I don't think there's anything wrong with your pole if it spins normally when you are doing other tricks on it. And I know the issue myself from experience. Using more spin is just going to make things worse for you I think, maybe using less would be better as the spinning forces that you have to combat will be weaker.
