Advice about Spin and Static mode?

Hi Guys, So Im really new here (about a week purchasing lessons but at least 5 months watching!) and I would really appreciate some advice... So the pole studio that I dance at uses only spining mode, though the first time I tried Pole dancing in sydney it was on static. Now they say they use spin mode cause its easier and looks better, so I have learned everything on spin, though have found my progression to be frustrating... So I look a few of Veenas lessons and go.."Ill give static a go" and SUDDENLY Ive gone from a beginner to an intermediate in strength! What the!!?? BUT NOW... all the moves I have learnt (Roughly all the beginner lessons technically and about 1/2, maybe more, of intermediate of veenas I learnt at my studio)... are really hard to do... my grip is insane and I cant get my self spining around, and I now know what "pole burn" is... Anyway... So there is a question in here...LOL... So I really want to know where to go from here. I have a pole at home and I am... well, pretty dedicated and really want to progress as fast as possible and Im pretty obsessed with getting good at pole (only been doing it for about 9 weeks officially).. but i dont know if I should stick to spinning as it has increased my strength without me knowing it...but the progression feels SOOO much slower and is so frustrating, or should I concentrate on Static and try to "re-learn" all the moves on static, as well as build up more strength?... I really dont know... What do the professionals use in competitions? What is reccomended? What is best for the body? I understand I should learn both... but i just dont know if I should swap over, or just try to do both in every session? Any advice, hints, tips, article references, advice from Veena (if you happen to see this post V 😀 ) advice on the future, comps, training, etc... WOULD BE SOOO APPRECIATED... You would think I would ask my pole teachers at the studio? Yes... but they unfortunatly they dont know much... they are good at what they do and thats about it. Its a small studio. First off....WELCOME!! I am a huge fan of spin as I think it just lookes so gorgeous! Having said that...I learn and get comfortable with new moves on static first then move on to doing them on spin. I usually use both modes when I practice...as there are some spins you can ONLY do on static and vise versa! I have also found that when I use both static and spin I don't "plateau" in my strength because each causes you to use your muscles differently. I do think that each compliments the other. As far as competition...the one that i've been to had two poles...one static and one spin and the competitors could chose which if not both to use. 😀

THANK you for your WELCOME! 😀 And your advice! Re the different moves... Ive HEARD there are different ones for each... but my studio doesn't know cause they only teach the spinny... how can I find out? Has veena done an article or anything on it? Or perhaps right here is the best place to start?. Gee it feels fantastic to be able to ask these things to LIKE MINDED people... not the cone of silence that surrounds this industry... My pole is both and I work on both I start on Static then to spin. This totally confirmed my thoughts on there are some things you can do on static and not spinning and vice versa.The first time Mine was set to spin after the first week on static the first spin I did my fav I fell on my rump could'nt even hold my wieght, but i nail it everytime on static lol, I was wondering if it was the spin lol . Thought I was losing strength or something.haha Happy Poling 😀:

I don't think there is a list out of the different moves you can do on each. It's just something you learn over time. As a general rule - it's harder to 'hold on' to a spinny pole - because it's always trying to push you off, basically. So any one-handed spins will be a NO GO zone on spin mode, until you are very very strong! Also - transferring to static from spinny means you have to learn about throwing your momentum around - and creating your own spinning force - by walking, swinging your legs, pushing off with your toes, leaning out etc etc etc. You might also have to loosen your grip a little, because spinny generally builds up strength faster. Transferring to spinny from static can be difficult too, mostly due to motion sickness hehe! Also the aforementioned issue of it being harder to swing around, instead you have to lift your weight and place yourself into positions, while the pole spins. The upside is you look a lot better than you are, and you can do longer combos because you basically never run out of spin! 🙂

Oh my god, i got so motion sick when I first started poling cause thats all they use at the studio, I still cant climb very well on it in that mode cause it throws me around so much i get freaked out and then come in close and then im like a hurricane and cant stop!! I learnt the hard way about the one hand on spinny... though its so nice to know, i was getting so frustrated at my progression! and now i feel heaps better, except I now look really mong doing moves on static cause i run out of momentum...and i sort of crash into the pole! So im learning to be braver and throw myself in to it. That and there are heaps of moves I have learned at the studio, and some of them I cant even do on static now... so im sort of at a cross road! Thak you for all your wonderful advice and general info.. Cant even begin to tell you how relieved I am... I thought I would never get strong enough! turns out thats just where im at for spinny but doing ok on static! yay 🥂 I think im going to be posting on here often.. I find i have lots of questions and my teachers just say.."oh.. I dont know.. I never had that problem when i was learning..." and im like... gee.. thanks! I mean - fair enough if every now and then they're stumped by something, it happens to everyone in every industry - but they should have enough experience with other students to recognise the common mistakes and weaknesses! I can usually spot what's wrong when a student is struggling and put them back on the right track straight away 😮 That's partly because I was a very slow learner and had a lot of difficulties when I started, but also because I spend A LOT of time surfing and participating in the online pole communities learning all I can to improve my teaching. And also because I watch myself in the mirror very closely so I know the precise body positions, hand grips etc., the timing of when to swing etc - and I research about the muscles used and how to strengthen them and all that. I'd be worried about my safety/risk of injury if my instructors couldn't tell me what I was doing wrong half the time! 😕

OH MY GOD! Thats what I have been doing. I come from a dancer back ground as well as massage therapy and more recently yoga teacher training... and so injury has been like FIRST on my list when learning ANYTHING...so im on the net like... oh.. every day!! So good to know im not a nutter! When I go from spinny to static I always have to remind myself - when in spin mode if you are doing something and you want to slow it down you lean away from the pole more...when you are closer or pull into the pole it speeds it up. If you are doing the same thing in static it may be slowing you down a bit. It's good to practice both...I think it's just a matter of getting used to it. I still get nauseous in spin mode though lol!

Hey, I just saw this post 😳 the other ladies all had good advice....your gonna have to get that death grip to relax! lol Static is all about using the momentum of your body so the harder you kick or push off the faster you'll go. Your grip will get better...I personally think its best to start with static, to avoid the death grip. Try wearing some wrist cuffs to help with the pole burn, it will also keep your skin from sticking and slowing you down too. Most dancers who only use spinny have a hard time getting use to static. I personally love static because I like the challenge of trying to create the momentum with my body...spinny sure is purdy tho 🤓
