hi im maz im new to pole dancing and i feel like im getting so many bruises i feel like im never gonna b able to sit on the pole.did anyones else feel like they werent getting it at first pole dancing i mean. x x

Welcome! Everyone has felt like this and most of us continue to feel like this throughout our pole dancing journey. It is a challenging and strenuous sport. When I first started, my bruises limited my pole time to once a week. One year later, I still bruise, but not as badly and I'm able to practice more. The beauty of this sport is there is so much to try that we will never run out of tricks and challenges! We can work on stretching and flexibility a few days a week or spend time on dancing and floorwork when our bodies need a break from the pole. Enjoy your journey. You're gonna love it here!
Hi Maz! Don't get disheartened - you WILL get there! Pole is such a challenge but the feeling of achievement you get when you finally conquer a move or a pose is immense. I'm new to pole too and it took me ages to get my first pole sit. Have you tried it in shoes? I found that they gave me more grip so I was able to stay up longer and build up a bit of strength (and pain tolerance!) in the upper thighs. It became much easier to get it without shoes after that. Stick with it and keep practicing - it will come! x

thanks so much for the reply gud to no was starting to think it was just me lol. i just hope i get the hang of it soon with less pain a bruses some ppl on the pole just look like there floating hope i get there one day x

littlejem have u been going to pole lessons or have u been doing the self teaching method how long u been poling for and how long did it take for u to bruse less x
I'm doing a mix of the two. I started poling about 3 months ago with weekly lessons at the local gym and got a pole at home about a month later. I was using YouTube vids to supplement class learning but I just subscribed to Veena's lessons earlier this week and they are GOLD - I can't recommend them highly enough! I'm gonna stick with classes for the social element but I think most of my learning will be done on here from now on. As for the bruising, when I stop getting them I'll let you know lol! My legs and feet are permanently covered but Arnica gel works wonders. Pole burn is getting less in certain positions though, thank god!

hi i only started on thurs when i got my pole i have only been able to practice a little bit because of the pain. so far iv just been watch u tube vids alot but iv been thinking if i might learn more at a class and faster. i joined this page today but iv nt paid yet so i cart see the classes wasnt shore how good this page would be for the money. so do yhink its worth paying for? x

Thanks Veena! :) That's another reason I love this site - you seem to have time for everyone! Do you ever sleep?! Maz, the lessons are definitely worth the money; I wish I'd got them sooner. They go from beginner to advanced, and Veena takes you right through strength/conditioning/flexibility as well as the actual moves and poses. There's a real focus on preparing your body which is hugely important, and v easy to miss if you're just using YouTube (even my class teacher doesn't push this, which is why I ended up with a lats injury from doing an invert when I'd only been poling for about 5 weeks: fail!). I've now gone right back to basics which is frustrating in some ways (we all wanna be swooping round the pole and pulling tricks right away!) but I know it'll serve me better in the long run. Short of having a private lessons from a pro dancer, i think Veena's lessons are the best start in pole you can get. x
Welcome to both of you! Yes, we've all been there with bruises and pain. But the accomplishment far out-weights it all. The Superman was herendous with pain/thigh burn, but it's so much fun now. I also go to a studio once in a while, as well as workshops when I can. Even though I usually learn something new to add, veena's lessons are a big part of learning for me. Hope you can share your progress as time goes on. This is a wonderful site to be part of :)
If there's classes in your area though I'd say try those as well, it's good to have a tutor on site who can give you pointers or tweak your positioning. It's good to meet pole buddies that you can practice with between classes too x

Hi Hookedonpole! Superman - aargh! I got into that from the ground for the first time in class a couple weeks ago and holy jeez I felt like the skin was being shaved off my thighs with a potato peeler - can only imagine what it's like from a transition up the top of the pole! So much to look forward to....! lol
Haha Maz, me too, trying to forget that tomorrow's Monday as well hehe. Good luck with whatever way you decide to attack the pole :) x
