45mm or 50mm?

Hi everyone! I have been M.I.A for a while had to take care of my son he had surgery & was home for 3mo, he is fine now and back in school. I sold my 45mm chrome pole, but now I want to buy titanuim Gold pole. I'm a thick tall woman and the 45mm was perfect for me then, Im just wondering what is the diffrence between 45mm & 50mm? And Will it be easier for me if its a 50mm? Thanx everyone!!! Marleen

Oh I hope your son is better...nothing worse than your child being sick or injured..you feel helpless🙁 Were you comfortable with your 45mm? I bought a 50mm as my first pole because it is industry standard and as a beginner I wanted to "challenge" myself, I don't know. I bought a 50mm Titantium Gold X-Pole----LOVE it...but my second pole I bought a 45mm Chrome X-Sport and , gotta admit, I sort of like the 45mm. Some tricks just come easier for me...but I LOVE the grip of the TG. My next purchase --if I can convince my husband---will be a 45mm X-Stage..if they made it in TG I would be in heaven. So basically I can't help you, sort of personal choice. Anyway you can try a 50mm and see if it is workable for you? It's nice to go to studios and get some variety...

Yes, it was hard for both of my husband and I but we got through and everything came out good. Thank You :) - I was thinking the same maybe the 45 is easier with moves. that helps a lot, I have to kinda start all over again so it makes a lot of sense to get the 45mm, but this time I am def going with the TG ive always heard its good with the grip. So thats a plus! lol The X-Stage would be so cool! Hope you get it girly :) Thanx so much for your help :) XOXOXOX

I am glad to hear your son is doing well. I have a 50mm Tit Gold xpole and love it. I do give up a lot of spin practice because of the grip, but that's okay with me for now. I've accomplished learning a lot since I got the Tit Gold (I had lil mynx stainless steel before). Is there a place or someone who has 50mm that you could try. There is a studio I plan to go to that has a 45mm and I want to have a class on that to try it. However, I constantly wonder if I should have gotten the 45mm :( I do well on the 50m but wonder how much better I could learn on 45mm. I also wonder if chrome would have been good to have spin practice and still a good grip for tricks. Oh well :( If I had room for two poles I'd get another one right now, haha It was so hard for me to decide when my hubby said I could get one for my bday last year. Again, I do love, love my titanium gold. Everyone is different, weather is different, etc. Hope you get one that works for you.

Thank You <3 See thats the thing I should of kept my Chrome Pole. I freakin feel like crying at times haha, It would be nice to have both lol, but is all good. I was thinking about getting a 50mm now just because I though since im thick it would be easier, but maybe I am wrong and I dont want to risk it. LOL I think I am def going to get the 45mm TG. Just because I did pretty good on the 45mm. I've always heard good things about TG Pole. I just hope when I get it i dont regret buying it instead of the Chrome 'cuz like you say, everyone is diffrent. So hopefully I will adapt to the TG once I get it. I will def let you ladies know how it goes :) Thanx so much for your feedback <3

I started with a stainless PS pole (50mm). Just bought a 45mm TG Xpole. Only downside of the TG is the inability to use iTac (seems to make the TG more slick in my experience!) I'm probably going to miss my stainless PS when I take it down (re-doing the room). I got a killer deal on the TG pole and 45mm works great for my cartwheels, handsprings, and twisted grips in consistency because its easier to grip hand-wise. I prefer 50mm for leg grips. I want a 50mm chrome to add and be able to swap poles, but gotta work on my hubby on that one lol. I do find TG poles to be easier to grip off the bat, but trying to find something to wipe them down with without making them slick has been tough. My friend found that a glass cleaner actually works the best so far!

My studio instructor told me that the 50mm was more of a standard. All of our poles at our studio are 50mm. I would be interested to see what a 45mm feels like!

From personal experience and from the experience of others, going from a 50mm to a 45 is a much easier adaptation that going from a 45 to 50. I always recommend starting with a 50 and then down the road going to a 45. If you're not planning on getting very serious with poling and just using it for recreational purposes as in not competing or doing shows, I'd say get a 45. It's good to be versatile with pole and learning everything on a 50 allows you that versatility.

I only know 45, and it's been great for my small hands (seriously- they fit into kids' gloves) and leg hangs. Curious about the 50 now...bet it feels like a tree trunk! I assume switching to a different size will always be challenging at first, but in the end only make you stronger and more versatile in the end.

I agree with Kobajo. If you learn on a 50mm pole, you'll be able to perform on 45mm or 38mm pole easily, because tightening your grip is always easier than loosening it for a bigger pole. I also prefer it for leg hangs and things like the Teddy! If you can do it on the 50, you can do it anywhere. But if you do it on a 45 only, it will be hard to change to a 50mm if you should ever want to do that. This is why I bought a 50mm - I want to be able to pole on every pole that's out there, if I feel the need to it 😀 (Did this sound weird? I guess ... hahaha)

I started with a 50mm pole (not xpole) about 5 years ago and never really used it cos it was so wide and horrible to hold! It literally just stood tall in our lounge room for 5yrs til I sold it 6 months ago, bought a brand new chrome 45mm xpole and took 2 months worth of lessons. After that I stopped lessons and found Studioveena and well, here I am, addicted and happy with 45mm -- I have big hands and hated the 50mm. weird!

Wow, Thank you all for all of your great feedback. Love the diffrent opinions and points of view, I've never used iTac & never felt like I needed on my 45mm Chrome. I am saving up to get the 45mm TG now, I can not wait 🥂 I miss poling a whole lot. I never though it would become a part of me, and never thought I would have such a passion for it, but I do. I miss it 🙁 -It was dificult for me to go upside down on the Chrome maybe on the TG will be a better grip for me :) XOXOX

I have a chrome 50mm and a TG 45 mm.I learn all new tricks on a 50mm first then use the 45mm when i'm in the mood for it.I bought the 45mm cause I thought the grip would be better,but with the heat and humidity here ( its about 25-30 celcius all year round) I can only use the Titanium ONLY when I'm not sweaty.If i'm perspiring,even climbing the pole is a challenge.I have a few friends with the same problem too,but others say its the best grip.I hope to buy a brass X-Pole.

I think the overall consensus seems to be... It depends on your situation/body chemistry/climate. And I would have to agree with that conclusion. R pole, bobbi's and Aradia all have 38's. The argument is that they (the 38's) are easier on your wrists/easier to grip and you will build core strength faster. If you are focusing onhandsprings I would say the smaller the better. Otherwise a thicker pole will be more comfortable. As far as the grip surface goes I don't think it really matters anymore. The grip aides available now are amazing and learning how to use them properly is an asset if you will be performing (on God knows what pole/surface/climate) All that being said I have a 50mm Steel PS pole but I am beginning to wish I had a 38mm.
