4.5m high problem poles

Hi all, I'm new to posting on here but am desperate for some advice. I'm based in the UK and I'm currently building a studio. After scoring a building with v high ceilings which is ace for aerial work I am now having huge problems installing my poles this high. I have tried 2 companies who both sent me 50mm diameter poles with a wall thickness of 3mm, and both flex like mad to dangerous levels. I dont want to install them as they are as I feel they will not inspire

...crikey my phone jumped the gun a bit and saved it before i could finish! ...inspire confidence in students. I have tried many different avenues including finding poles with thicker walls (they dont exist in the finish thats right for dancing), putting a 44mm conduit down the middle of the pole (it seems that size conduit doesnt exist either!), filling them with resin (which Im v hesitant about as Ive never heard of anyone else doing it and Im not sure how it will react), or lowering the beams to 3m (an absolute last resort as it defeats the object of gaving this place!). Does anyone have any advice for someobe based in the UK please? I know there are much higher poles than this in the USA but it seems the UK market does not support this height. This is turning into a nightmare, finding another premises is not an option so if you can help please do!

Platinum Stages make a "competition pole" that is specifically designed for very high ceilings. No idea if they ship to the UK, though. http://www.platinumstages.com/Competition-Heavy-Duty-Taller_c_39.html

PS, X and Poledanzer all make reinforced poles. You have to specifically ask for this.

platinum stages acutally has a UK warehouse and site now. You should contact them and see if they can get you some reinforced poles. http://www.platinumstages.co.uk/ the competition line isn't listed on the uk site, but you should call and talk to them about it.

Thankyou for your responses it is appreciated, I'll call them tomorrow. Does anyone have experience on the platinum stages poles? Do they still flex but to a manageable level?

My brass one flexes, but it's a 45 and not reinforced. The ones in the studio I went to were pretty darn sturdy. They were mostly 50 stainless, a few 50 brass, and 1 45 stainless. Their ceiling is also pretty high. I believe most poles with have some degree of flex at certain heights, but it should be within a safe limit.

hi there, I have a studio with very high celings as well (cement thank goodness) - they are about 4.30m high (20cm shorter than yours) I installed 50mm stainless steel poles which had a wall thickness of 1.5mm. I made sure that there was a top coupling which prevented the pole from spinning or slipping. Yes the poles flex (but not a lot) but we have never had any problems and the girls love the height for climbing. No spinning poles but the girls dont mind that much.
