I was a little worried about this – my club only has a spinning pole, and I’ve heard so many people talking about them negatively in comparison to the static. I remember in my first year of dancing after I’d learned enough to feel quite confident I came across a static pole for the first time. Never having danced anywhere outside my club I was a little nervous about giving it a go, but I thought ‘what the hell’. I flung myself around into a nice easy swing and just kind of stuck there https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif Then I tried something different and I just ended up feeling ridiculous because I had no idea how to work the darn thing!
The next time I got to dance on a static pole was a few years later, and it wasn’t hard to swap at all (although I did have to get used to the difference in momentum). I guess when you’re learning the basics it’s a lot more difficult to dance on one when you’re used to the other – I think they’re just different, not easier or harder. I prefer the spinning pole though… it’s so much more fun! Now I sometimes find it very hard to do things slowly though, as after dancing on the static for a few months I got used to putting more force into things.
