  • what to do for the august 2011 challenge?

Posted by VanillaryPuff on July 18, 2011 at 10:39 am

I am so into doing challenges lately, so I thought we could start a thread for choosing our next challenge! Or do you already have a topic for it, Veena?!?

    My suggestion is,

    1) turn on the radio and dance to whatever comes next

    2) dance to a song that reminds you of your best friend. the one song, that you just have to sing along, that will always remind you of her (or him). you could even call this challenge "friendship"!

    3) dance to a song from a film about dancing! let "dirty dancing" or "honey" be your inspiration!

    What do you think?

Ooh! I love the idea of the dirty dancing music! So many classic songs to choose from!!! How much fun! Maybe we can do a 80's song challenege! Complete with crazy hair, makeup and outfits!

I've actually seen a few newer movies out about dancing, too! They have some good music in them.

I could try the radio one…though I don't think I actually have a radio in my house 😛 I can see, though, if the stereo does radio!

If not, maybe I'll just go to work and pick one 😉

LOL I know what my best friend song would be, although I don't think I could pole to it… 500 miles (I'm gonna be) by the Proclaimers!! Either of the other suggestions are cool too, I don't know which one to choose! Can we have all of them, over the next couple of months perhaps??

I'm glad you like it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

We had a party a couple of weeks ago – for the owner's birthday – and all instructors danced to a song from a dance movie. I liked that idea, so I thought I should bring it up!

Bound to the pole. Like handcuffs, ropes, scarves, anything binding you to the pole.

I was just thinking the other day how I'd love to do like a "musical theatre" challenge, so I love the idea of a film about dancing one 😛 eee, maybe I'll actually try and post my challenge video this time around 😛

Hi, I'm fairly new to the website and not certain how to find out about the monthly challenges. Will they send us an email letting us know about the August 2011 challenge or wil it be listed on the home page of the website?

forum -> studioveena.com challenges -> pick the month you like. you can do a challenge whenever you want to (you can do the challenge of last september now, if you like), you don't need to be "good", all you have to do is have fun!

How about a tribute dance to a passed loved one? I want to do one to an Amy Winehouse song for tribute. I think she was full of talent and artitistic abilities whose life was cut too short. Unfortuneately so many friends have passed young like this too, so it will be for everyone I love and miss too:)

    God bless

I did a stay on the pole challenge to myself a week ago and posted a vid on my youtube. It was a challenge where I had to finish the song from start to finish all aerially… it was tough stuff… exhausting but I got a lot of resistance work in! <3

This is going to sound jerky and I so don't mean it to sound jerky because I will redo challenges too, we did already have an aerial pole challenge and an 80's song challenge a while back but as I said totally fine with a re-do 🙂 some other ideas:

Dance to a song in pants

Dance to a song and include the top 5-6 moves you are the most proud of accomplishing or that you feel are your best moves

    Classical music/something only instrumental

Music that is opposite of what you normally choose (I never dance to rap or hip hop so that's what I would pick, etc)

    Madonna song

An "alter ego" challenge – pick a song and outfit that represents your sexy side, naughty side, dominatrix side, diva side, rockstar side…the list goes on

Glitterhips those are great ideas! I'm sorry. I haven't been following the challenges like I should. I want to start from the beginning and catch up… haha. That would take FOREVER. What month was the aerial challenge?

I REALLY also like the lost loved one idea… I have the perfect song for my grandmother who is my inspiration in everything and still a very soft spot for me when I think of her. She was my emotional support- I kinda didn't know what to do when I lost her.

While I could see dancing for a lost loved one being a very strong, emotional dance for many here, it would make me quite uncomfortable. I'm not sure if I can properly explain why, yet, but I know that's how I feel :S

The others however, those sound fun! I really like dancing as an "alter ego," especially since I'm learning a lot more how much movement and certain ways of moving can suggest personality. Dancing in pants wouldn't be so much of a "challenge" for me, just normal 😛

I understand. I just cope with loss by dancing. I always have… I totally understand that it might be sad for a lot of people including myself but its very celebratory at the same time. Dancing in pants… woah. I hate pants. Trying not to sound like lady gaga here! haha. An alter ego… I dunno how i'd pull that one off. I feel like I dance with alter egos alot- I'd have to really amplify something and make it extremely dramatic… hehehe. But I love the dramz!

    no inverts or

no inverts no spins chalenge or

    floor work chalenge 😀

I don't know what people will think of this, but I've been watching a lot of the "It gets better" videos lately – maybe everybody could do a "it gets better" pole dance and, if they feel confident enough to, put them up on the site. If you haven't heard of it its all about letting young LGBT know that if they can get through the bullying and all the hard stuff, life gets better and to hold on (it was after a patch of teen sucides over the issue). Now I know everybody here isn't LGBT, but I'm guessing most people will have had to over come something really really difficult and maybe we could do a dance that shows you can come out the other side being a stronger person? It'd also let people dance for the loss of a loved one, or just celebrate life, and help people struggling in the process.

Just a thought after watching loads of those videos – some are so sweet!
