I was watching the movie planet terror and someone talks about useless talents. Im pretty sure we all have useless talents. At the moment i know of 2 kinda weird useless talents. The first one is a clicking noise i can do with my tongue that makes me sound like a dolphin lol. No one else can do it but its probably due to my jaw that is too far back and a bit crooked. The second talent is a recently discovered talent. I recently had nose surgery and i was wiggling my nose and realized i could make it move just like a rabbits nose. I was never able to do it before then.

    Whats yours?

I can pop my ear drums on command without yawning or coughing. I have complete and total control of the bone or muscles or whatever it is that makes the ear drum crackle when you pop it. It’s freaked out my family doctor and anyone else who’s looked at my ear drums.

I can also lace my hands infront of me, and then through shoulder mobility and some bendy elbows get them behind me in the locked handcuff postion without unlacing my hands. Might be a useful talent….if I were ever arrested…

I can fix candles. If the wick has issues or something like that. I mess with it untill it will burn correctly. I can fix tunneling candles as well. I had an ex that called me a candleologist. LOL!!!

I can make pig noises. The little snorting sounds from deep in my throat, not the squealing. I don't share this with many people.

    Very funny and useless;) thread!

I can, in the same way as we cross our middle finger over our index finger, cross my ring finger over the middle one without helping out with the other hand or so, on both hands.

    Brilliant thread!

I have pretty flexible shoulders and can put sun cream on my whole back without any assistance lol, it gets a few funny looks on holiday! I can also bend the tip of each finger backwards almost 90 degrees (my mum can do it to 90 on each finger)

I can touch my nose with my tongue, make a 3 leaf clover out of it, make a bathtub shape, make it belly dance, and rotate it 180 degrees both ways (most people can't get their non dominant side to turn) I also can sunscreen myself and eat a bowl of cereal with my feet lol. I can make gang signs with my toes without arranging them with my hands. I can hoop on my forhead (as in, head hooping, not hooping whilst standing on my head, though I can foot hoop very well, if only I could get some stands (elbow, forearm, I don't care) I can blow bubbles with my eyes while under water. I can bend my fingers at just the last joint (the nail joint) while keeping my hands and fingers straight. I make doll house toilet paper out of straw wrappers. I like making chains and necklaces out of bubble gum paper, but they don't make gum the same anymore. I can write really REALLY small.

D Luxx: You're completely useless;)! I'm just curious since I didn't understand the forehead hooping, could you explain that further?

BTW I can also turn my tounge 180 degrees both ways:)

Just hooping around my head lol. Above the eyes, below the hairline, just hooping on my head lol! There are videos on youtube of some other people doing it. I think Nick Guzzardo and Khan are both hoopers that do it often. Lately I've been working on nose hooping. Looking up at the sky, and hooping around my nose.

Debs – Hahaha I can do the same!! My BF always tells me, that I should charge money, when I put sunscreen on my back. People alwaus stare! Do you twist your arms aswell? So that the palm of your hands is facing your back? I've only met one other person who could do this, and she could only do it with the outher back of her hand..

Other than that, I can bend my thumb, so it lays aross my wrist, turn my tonque upside down, I can twist my knee almost all around, which means I can put my foot on my head, even though I cant do splits, shake my right eyeball, I can make tricks with poker jetons.. Im sure there is more…

Also, once I was at this circus workshop with my niece, and I had to try the flying plates for the frist time. I ended up balancing 5 at the same time, in my first try, and the owner actually offered me a job in his circus act. 😀

Steffie – I use the palm yeah (just had to try it to see ha!)! I can do the thumb to wrist thing too but it's not as easy as it used to be!

I use my palms too. (I went through the motions to see lol) I go right arm back, left arm up from the bottom. Switch. Then hug myself to make sure I didn't miss anything or leave streaks lol. I'm one of those that lotions before hitting the sun, so I don't burn, so I've never gotten stares for it. I get warnings from everyone "Oh you're going to have a big red triangle or a white handprint if you try to do that yourself" Psht please lol!!!

It used to be the flexibility test in PE when I was in 3rd grade or so, to try and lock your fingers (bottom hand palm out for that) I can actually reach further twisted palm in… hrm.

I had to check now and I would succeed with the lotion on back thing I realized:) Now I know I shouldn't have to ask for help again, great! My palm is almost facing the back, but maybe not completely.

Since this have been a lot about mobility in fingers and other stuff that almost sound like dislocation, do any of you have EDS (Ehler-Danlos syndrome)? I don't (as far as I know and when I read about it, it doesn't really sound like me even if I'm somewhat mobile).

I just twist my wrist, when I have my arm on my back and then put lotion all over. Only one arm at a time. My doctor says I have hypermobility in my shoulders, arms and knees.. He means that as a bad thing, but all Im thinking is why I dont have it in all of my body. Would be so cool to be a flexible poledancer!! 🙂

Haha! This is fun. I remember ridiculous details about things. Like I'll meet someone and we'll talk. I might see them six months later but I remember what college their kid is going to or their favorite wine or whatever. I also know random, stupid trivia.

I'm a speed reader. I can read a 300 pg book in about 2 hours. You could argue that is an awesome talent, but I can only do it with fictional novels and the like. I can't do it with textbooks. Boo! 🙁

I have the "weird details thing" going on too. And I research things when I get curious, and end up with a bunch of worthless info (unless I ever get on Cash Cab or something lol) I didn't know that Hasbro bought Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers prior to 1987. Thats the year my husband was born, he was going off about Hasbro "when I was growing up this, and when I was growing up that" So, I had to go find out what actually went on with all these toy companies. They were all Hasbro before he was even born lol!! They own EVERYTHING. They even have their own studios where they make the cartoons that go along with their toys (My Little Pony, GI Joe, Transformers, ETC) I had no idea, and now, I will know fooooreeeeverrrr lol.

Have you ever seen people thanking me on here for finding stuff and old posts?  I have a ridiculous visual memory (but I cannot remember people's names in person to save my life).  Although this really is not a "useless" talent.

I can also clover my tongue.

I have a knack for packing and making stuff "fit".  My husband still cannot repack the popup after a trip without having leftover "stuff".  This is part of my visual ablities.  I am surprised at how many people I meet that cannot visualize maps or even in 3D.  This helps a lot with breaking down moves too as I can watch a move and visualize it from a bunch of different angles in my head.  It allows me to teach a move that I cannot physically do myself.  Not too long ago I was able to explain a devils point shuffle to someone strictly from memory.

Chem, I relate to that one, but I don't consider it useless, so I didn't include it here. I definitely notice you as "reference guide" around here. I used to do a lot of that on other forums, but then one day, I just decided I'd rather just read and see where it flows. I used to really love "directing traffic" for newbies, just modding forums really. I don't love it as much these days, but I still love my research. <3

I can do a mean whinny. It wasn't useless when looking for horses in a large pasture. I whinny, they whinny back. But it's pretty much useless now.

i can make sounds like sheep, and i've had several lambs answering my cries. i also make a pretty decent chicken sound, and can imitate a child's voice perfectly. apart from that … probably my biggest "talent" (and most annoying for myself, lol) is noticing the nervous tics (fads?) a person has within absolutely no time and then being constantly annoyed by them, while no one around me has ever noticed them until i point them out (and sometimes not even then, lol). https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

I always seem to find "that spot" for cats and dogs, where if you scratch it, they both love it and tweak out pretty good. I also know how to pet birds, and get in under their feathers. I've actually had a hyacinth macaw refuse to leave my arm because she liked what I was doing- for over an hour, I think! She was as tall as my entire torso, too, so trying to tell her "no" was a little… dangerous!

I'm also a translator for strange people noises. You know, when people mumble something, or have food in their mouth, or just make some kind of sound in leu of a word? Yeah, I can understand that stuff, most of the time. Sometimes this means that I have to explain one person to another person (sometimes people don't connect when they are actually trying to communicate), and sometimes this just means I hear someone mumble something and react, and get strange looks for it 😛

CapFeb, I can pop my eardrums without moving my jaw, too! It comes in pretty handy on airplanes and when diving. If I keep them open, though, it makes me yawn. =)
I can also recite the alphabet backwards, which hasn’t been terribly useful yet.
