Micro-tears causing vulnerability to the protective function of skin is a great point made. Another tip for delicate skin vulnerable to infections is to apply rubbing alcohol daily. Alcohol dries and toughens the skin like leather. It’s used in nursing homes to prevent pressure sores especially on the buttocks. Witch hazel is sold in an alcohol solution. Most (artificially) scented body sprays are in an alcohol base.

I will never shave her again. Full Brazilian is the way to go. I’ve been getting them for about a year and now it hardly grows back! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Plus she stays sooo smooth for about 2 weeks and when hair comes back it’s not coarse. If you can get past the first 3 you’re golden! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    Good luck!

waxing doesn’t work that well for everyone scain….in two weeks I have enough growback to look like someone who just trims with sissors. For me laser is the only option for being totally save free. And waxers hate when you shave in between visits lol I would wax then start shaving about 6 days later. by the end of a month I would be shaving everyday again. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gifOMG I do not i repeat NOT wax… I SUGA BABYhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif waxing that is the most painful process ever i tried on myself i was red bled and i cried never never again. now sugar method check it out Google it, you can even do it yourself at home a non expensive method and it works amazingly i have been doing it for about hmm 3 yrs and it took 30min the first time and after 10 mins–salons charge an arm and leg but like i said you can do it yourself after you get used to it..i am prone to ingrowns with shaving so it sucks for me but i dont have to worry about hair growing back with the next week i usually have hair grow with sugaring 2 months in between thats a loong time for me i dont have any problems with ingrowns or it being painful at all–it is the most smoothest too..BESTIEShttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I know several people have mentioned Nair.  There is a similar product which I find works better for me called Veet.  It doesn't take as long as the former and seems to take longer to grow back in.  Just wanted to contribute the very little widsom I have.

Thanks for being brave enough to start this discussion board.  I had always wondered what people did, what works, what doesn't, and how to deal with just the whole garsh darn deal!

I got my first Hollywood wax done today (not sure what it's called in every country but it's basically where everything is taken off!) To be honest, it wasn't half as bad as I imagined it would be. Of course there were certain parts that hurt more than others but on a scale of 1-10, I'd rate the pain a 4 in the bad spots! The real discomfort is now really, it's been like 15 hours since I had it done and I still feel a bit tender but it's not that bad. Overall, not that painful of an experience at all, I really expected much, much, much worse! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I got some spray off the waxer to start using in 2-3 days to prevent ingrowns, this is my main concern having been an epilator user for a while, I know only too well how ugly ingrowns are. So hopefully this spray will minimise any of that!

Yeah my gal said to exfoliate and moisturize daily to prevent ingrown hairs. To alleviate the pain during and after I take 2 iBuprofen. It helps ALOT!

I shave- I use a brand new razor everytime. BRAND NEW. While in the hot shower, I slowly and with small strokes gradually shave off all the hair.  To make the area accessible, I hike my leg up on the wall of my shower.  I use my hands to feel- because I can't see.  After the shower, to get the area towards the back (my crack) i squat over a mirror and carefully and slowly, with short strokes remove that hair.  As far as the direction the shaving strokes go: that can be tricky and hard to explain.  Just be thoughtful and aware.  Also- I found some nice tiny razors, made for the bikini area, at Target.  The blades are half the size of regular razors, so those work nicely- if you are willing to pay a little extra.

Shaving is probably the most cumbersome method for hair removal in that area, but I am just not sure I want to be hairless permanently- yet.  And I'm not interested in paying for a brazillian… yet.

I'll just add my two cents here… I was a shaver, became a waxer, did that for years until I discovered laser 4 years ago.  When I started laser I didn't have a lot of hair bc waxing really thinned it out.  I  did however spend OVER  12-months getting laser done to my pits and bits. I loved the ridiculously slow grow back and super- thinned out hair, so much that I gushed about it and recommended it to all my girlfriends.  I was an ideal candidate with pale skin and dark hair, and made sure my clinc used the best laser around, top notch treatment, and I went religiously every 5-6 week (whatever they told me to do).  I finally quit when there were just a few random stragglers and blondies on the underside left that would come back, but I was mostly bare, and my pits were empty!

Fast forward to 3-4 months after my final treatment, some slow growth came back.  I was not prepared to sink anymore money into laser, ($70/5mins- usually took them15-20mins in the beginning, 10 mins at the end) so I just went back to shaving my underarms.  Today, they look like I NEVER touched them with the laser.  My bits had a lot of those blondies on the underside, so I knew they wouldn't go away forever, but my upper part was pretty cleaned out.  I continued to wax the blondies and the stragglers but it seems that the top has made a comeback as well.  While I know it's still not as heavy as it was pre-laser, I still have enough that I NEED a wax, although I'm feeling jaded and cheap so I stretch it out to every 2 months.  The hair is very thin and sparce, but it does get long.

So just beware, laser, as great as it it, can just not work for everyone, even ideal candidates can fail to get good final results. And the results during treatment do not necessarily reflect on the results you'll have at the end bc during treatment I was a bare bunny most of the time after the hair fell out!   I was also told that hormone fluctuations throughout life could stimulate new growth and that obviously wouldn't have been lasered at the time you were doing it, so things like pregnancy can bring back you hair, but not necessarily in even coverage.    I couldn't do a landing strip if I wanted bc my growth is really patchy.  All that money just to ultimately be at the whim of my hormones?  Probably won't do it again 🙁

Guess I'll just keep waxing, luckily since I have so little my waxer only charges me $20-$25 for a brazillian 🙂  it's really just a tidy up.

I just started the laser process yesterday so I will be really curious to see how it all turns out.  There was a groupon a few weeks ago for three sessions for $99 for one of the following areas: lip, chin, underarms, bikini lines.  It is with a dermatologist so that was positive.  Unfortunately, it is for only the bikini line and I will need him to go in a little further for me to be happy with the results.  But I figure this was a good place to start!

I have been told that you don't normally lose hair the day that the lasering takes place, but I did.  Not a ton, but definitely some.  Is that an indicator of something?  Any ideas?

Your first option is to find a place that does Brazilian waxes well. The best wax to use is Tea Tree oil based wax -this is the least painful type of wax and prevents in-ingrown hair; unlike most wax. You can take an Advil or Tylenol prior to your wax (some people find it helps). Also, don't just let anyone do you Brazilian. As funny as it sounds, just because they are a certified esthetician, does not mean they excel in their field, so try to find someone who is certified as a senior esthetician. Also, talk to them and make sure you feel comfortable with that person getting in your personal space -they should talk you through the whole process and inform you of all the products they use and why.

Your other option is to do laser hair removal. As you can see, there are many methods of laser hair removal, however the most advanced and latest method; at least as far as I am aware, is called Soprano Laser hair removal. It is the first pain-free, effective hair removal system that does not burn the skin or require specific candidates. Also, the sessions are roughly $500 for 6 session on small areas such as: bikini line, underarm etc. My suggestion would be to sign up for a promotional website like Groupon; they often have promotions on Soprano Laser Hair Removal – just keep an eye out.

In regards to Nair, I would highly recommend not using this to do a Brazilian. Nair is a strong chemical and can easily cause burns… not to mention doing your lips down there highly increase the risk of the Nair making contact with your internals.

    I hope that helps! 🙂

laser hair removal is amazing and its so much cheaper nowadays. sign up on groupon.com and livingsocial.com, (and there are so many more sites like this as well). i purchased 3 sessions for $150, and 6 sessions for $99 on these sites. they have deals for it allllllllll the time!! its so much better than waxing, and the hairs grow in much thinner, and way less. i havent had an ingrown hair in years.

I got an at home laser hair removal set from ebay for £60, if you get a good model they work well. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just tried sugaring!!! The recipe is farely straight forward, I used the link as posted above. I had no trouble getting the right texture for the wax. My fingers were stuck together at one point and I almost pee'd myself laughing~then unstuck myself with warm water hahahhah…..after that I practiced on my leg (which worked wonders), then I practiced on my very loving hubbie (thank you honey!) before going for the nether-region. On a pain factor it was about a 3-4 but on a workability factor it was super easy, just have to stretch a bit before and figuring out the right positions. I also noted that having a little bit longer hair made it come off easier! I am definately going to stick with this! It took all of 5 bucks to make vs. 90 for salon wax and 350 for laser. Pain is waaaaay lesss, vs waxing (which trying to find a good waxer is few and far between) and laser (which look like someone hit me with a baseball bat and so much brusing from front to back that I couldn't barely sit for 2 weeks).  *The only thing I would recommend is pouring it into a resealable container for cooling so you can reuse it!*

Hmm, I never even heard of sugaring but it sounds like something I might wanna try one day.  Until then I am def a shaver, to me its fast, cheap, easy and gets the job done.  I shave evertime I shower, so about once a day, but before you think about how time consuming that is, just think I go over my area quickly, yet carefuly, and if I miss a spot, its not like it makes a differnece, the hair is still just a lil itsy tiny piece and chances are I'll get it next time.  It takes about the same amount of time as washing my face or rinsing my hair.  BUT if I get lazy and skip a few days thats when the work begins lol…luckily for me I made it my routine n im smooth and clean https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I don not have a budget to get waxing done and certainly not laser, if I did perhaps I would try the laser, not sure, but prob would try the wax or sugaring.

I have no irratation problems with shaving, always use a clean razor and either shaving cream or conditioner, sometimes I moisturize afterwards, but no particular routine.  I think I'de think i would burn the heck out of miss kitty if I used nair or something, it burns my legs and gives me a rash, so I havent ever tried it down there.

I think after you shave for a while you get the hang of it and dont need a mirror or anything if your shaving frequently, I stress frequently,…its no fun to have to trim the *errrr* bush? first and then shave if you get what I mean.  If you wanna stay smooth, you gotta be on it…i guess thats where some people get annoyed with it, but to me its just sometihing i do in the @ mins I have my hair soaking up[ the conditioner https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

i had no success nair-ing my pubes.  it's like the cream is not strong enough for that tough hair- and if i leave it on longer it just irritates my skin.  i think if you have fine or thin hair in that area, it might work.

I shave mostly, but plan on doing the laser removal next year sometime. Did brazilian waxing for the past year and loved it, but it got $$$.

I have to share this video with you guys cause it is too perfect for this thread.

I've done laser on bikini and arm pits 8 years ago. I coudn't be happier. No hair and my skin is smooth, no bumps or red spots. In the long run it saves you money, too.
