    can someone help me?

My original hair color is dark brown. I have very long wavy hair. 2 years ago I had virgin hair and decided  i wanted to go purple and used one of those XXL LIVE (permanent). Then that faded, and i used a semi permanent ebony black. and when that faded i used another XXL LIVE (permanent) this time in black! and now for the last time after about 10 months of nothing i dyed it XXL LIVE again but this time in red. I never bleached my hair to achieve these colours, it stayed dark most of the time with the color reflex's.

Now i would like to make some light brown highlights and go again with a semi permanent on top, in ash brown.

Would this be safe? I fear that after 3 permanents and 1 semi my hair wont resist.

    Thank you ladies.

Do a few good deep conditioning treatments a few weeks/days prior.  If your just talking highlights, it won't do a lot of damamge because your just doing some sections of hair.  However, if you want to go lighter as in a highlight, a semi-permanent color won't lift or lighten your hair.  So you will need to use a high lift tint or bleach which neither are semi permanent, and both ARE going to cause some dryness.  You may want to put a semipermant color on over your highlights if you want, but if you find someone to lighten it, and they are a professional, they will do whatever will cause minimal damage.  (Hairdresser for 10 years).  Good luck!

I was thinking of using a mixture of  40 vol cream developer and bleaching powder, and some foils to make a few highlights (not too thick) and let them get very light, and then later on dye all over with semi permanent ash brown. I imagine that the highlights would still come through but as a light ash brown. am i thinking correctly?

    Thank you  for your help!:)

40vol is extremely harsh on your hair!
Ive used it and it TRASHES your hair.
Stick with 20 vol and go over it after a few weeks to get the desired colored.
You unfortunately might have to put up with a slightly yellow tinge for a bit but it’s better than your hair breaking.
A decent toner should help fix that anyway 🙂

If you do a ash over light blonde out will turn gray…..don’t do it. If you are striping all the natural color out you have to put warmth back in

Strand testing is the only safe way to go if your not sure- a pain i know,  as it costs you the price of something that you might not even be able to use!

However being able to walk down the street without a bag on your head cos' you didnt mess it up……..priceless! 🙂
