Yogini – low legs
Posted by Lula Geddes on July 29, 2014 at 3:23 amHi, I don’t seem to be able to get my legs very high on the yogini, I’m not sure why, I thing I should be flexible enough – what exactly should I be doing to get them higher? Any suggestions?

ok, so I don’t have the best yogini. you can look at my profile pic. but mine was much worse than it is now. I think working on back flexibility and hip flexors helps a lot. some stretches that I do to help are: cobra, camel pose, back bends, and various hip flexor stretches. my flexors still need a lot of work. Most importantly, try doing this pose on the ground without the pole (bow pose). hold this pose and really use your strength to pull your legs up. Can you pull them up higher while on the ground? if so, then you should eventually be able to do this on the pole. you have to pull up on the ankles while pushing the front of your pelvis and chest out. think of expanding into a big round ball. make sure you are really warmed up first. your flexibility and strength play equal parts in this move.

Hi, yes, I can pull my legs higher while I’m on the floor. I’ll keep working on my flexibility – thanks!

In the youtube video, amy mentions something about trying to straighten the legs while you are holding them and that will bring you in a more upright position. I think the way she explains it probably makes more sense. you look like you have the flexibility maybe that technique will help you pull up.
I love your profile pic! wish I could do that! that’s amazing -
Hi Phoenix, yes, I watched the video, I think probably that of pushing the legs back is something that I am not doing, so I’ll try that, I’m thinking maybe I should also try and tilt my weight forward a bit, sort of realign the body, but maybe that’s just a silly idea… Thanks for the compliment, you’ll get it one day! I have to train on and off as I travel for work and now I can’t do it any longer… I can shoulder mount, but I cannot stay in a solid V position like before, I’ve only been back for 3 weeks, so hopefully soon again!
