I am really perturbed at the videography that was aired for this event. So many moves were lost because the guy (I assume) was trying to focus on faces and not the entire pole area. Idiot. I was glad to see Rafaela’s performance up but has anyone seen Jenyne’s??

i agree! the guy who did the video didn’t get the point https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif it’s like "duh bro, if you are watching football && all they do is show players faces && not the actual game you would be mad so what makes you think we just wanna see body parts" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

    Here is Jenyne’s video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPYwJiEyKyg

Its not the official one but you can at least see the whole thing here.
Poor girl, I love Jenyne and she is heartbroken with her performance. I think it was great and she recovered gracefully.

JENYNE you are still amazing and my pole idol! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Thank God Jenyne wasn’t hurt! That looked like a 25 ft drop from that rigging…and she was in heels, too! She was utterly gorgeous before and after. She showed complete grace and poise. Thank you Jenyne, for showing us what physical and mental strength it takes to be a competitor.

wow!!! that first fall (or maybe a drop) looked like it hurt too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif & then falling from the truss https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif i would have cried && not been able to handle myself so gracefully. she did a great job though! i hate that she fell at worlds, that sucks! && to me, it just makes her better than i already thought she was because of how she handled herself & kept going.

I can’t watch from work…can’t believe she fell! Wow. I known Alethea posted that she had some slippage problems. She said it was really quite warm at the event and they had all sorts of grip stuff on the poles which caused other issues and then when performing they were sweating causing slippage. I could see where she had issues just because I have watched enough of her videos to know her positioning. I saw that Rafaela had a few problems too, particularly her spatchcock (she slipped all the way to the floor on prep and then did not have the proper body position to get into it). It is too bad there were so many problems at this even this year.

Goop on the poles is a HUGE fear and one of the various reasons I don’t want to compete. I don’t like grip aid and find it turns slick if your too hot. Scary!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_shaking2.gif You would think the competition regulations would have pole cleaners using ultra powerful cleaner so the next competitor would not have residue left over from the last dancer. A slick pole is a dangerous pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif I know its hard to get grip aid off, so I’m not sure what a possible solution would really be reasonable. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

You are right, Veena! Jenyne told me that there was very hot on the stage, the lights were very close, too much smoke and the cleaners was insufficiently effectual. They cleaned the pole very attentively, I saw it, but it didn´t work. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

This is truly a pity. I felt sorry for Rafaela too – such a strong performance and in the very end she could not do the spatchcock. I hadn’t seen Jenyne’s performance earlier but her fall broke my heart too – she was fantastic as usual. I hope organizers start doing something about cleaning the poles after these episodes – falling from the pole can be very dangerous and competitors push their bodies to the limit when performing, you definitely cannot risk a person’s safety like that.

OMG…I just watched this and gasped when sh fell. The jade fall looked pretty painful too…she was not even able to get set in the pose. I know if I fell that hard either time I would be hurting BAD.

Aww Jenyne!!! She did recover well, I couldn’t have been so graceful.

And having watched those vids, I think I have a new hero, Rafaela was amazing!! Don’t hate me, but I liked her performance better than Felix’s!

I’m so glad that no one was seriously hurt. A weekend with that many slips and falls could have gone sooo much worse.

Someone needs to produce a pole cleaning solution instead of more grip aids. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

The courage and strength of character just to get to that position says so much about all the competitors, but to the ones that slipped and held your heads up after – you are what makes me love pole dancing! Cheers for your hard work!

All these ladies were unbelievable, so talented and I really enjoyed watching the worlds. how can you decide on a champion?
Jenyne, bless her…..what passion and perfection, despite the fall.

I’m going to state (because nobody on here has yet) that Oona Kivela had the qualifications and deserved to have made it into the top 13. I think her performance was perfect and complete and totally full of passion….and I’m sure she was terribly disappointed, but she’s a really good sport. But unfortunately something wasn’t right with the judging I have to say…I question and challenge the judges….
we in the community need to make sure we have legitimacy at such events at an international level.
    thats all im sayin….

otherwise…what an amazing group of women that championship blew my mind and filled me with inspiration.

I think it’s just as impossible to state whether judging is fair as it is for judging to not be personal and subjective. No matter what point/valuation system you have in place you are dealing with human beings who have "opinions". They are humans – not robots.

What if some judge hates the spatchcock. Just think’s an ugly and grotesque move? You may not agree with them but if someone is judging and hates the spatchcock you certainly cannot expect them to give high points for it can you? Or maybe it will affect how that judge scores the "artistry" portion of that performance.

This has been coming up time and again this weekend and It’s not fair to judge the judges. It’s a tough job! I’ve done it and it’s simply not the same as sitting there rooting for the people you know and love.

Not that it matters, but does anyone know if it was two falls Jenyne had? The end and did she mean to fall out of the Jade?
I only ask because it looks on purpose except for the speed of the fall. Looks like it hurt. Also it didnt look like she was in full position yet.
I havent had a chance to watch all of the videos but I have heard a lot on the poles being slick. Ive always wondered what happens in competitions with all those different competitors and grip aids. I know I cant go on a pole with a different grip aid, its too slick, and I couldnt imagine trying to do some of those moves on a slick pole! How dangerous. They do need to think of a better system for that.
I admire all the ladies that competed for their talent, grace and athletic ability!
    Great Job!

I cleaned poles at the DC pole convention and was nearly the death of prana thanks to my over enthusiastic use of dry hands. I felt so awful because her life and limb were … well, nearly victims of a circumstance she had no control over.

Jenyne’s choreography was so amazing. Had it not of been up to weird circumstance she would have knocked felix from the throne. …if she wasn’t a trained circusperson, she would have been seriously hurt! Maybe to where she wouldn’t be able to perform again…

…. I’m rambling. Jenyne is Queen!
