I have a 45 but I like the 50 much better. I’m 5’3 but I still like the 50.

I am really short with tiny hands and I learned on the 50. I also have a 50 chrome at home. Our studio has one 45 and my fingers still don’t touch when my hand is wrapped around it. I find that advanced tricks are much easier for me on the 45, like twisted grips. But I’m happy I have a 50 chrome at home bc my grip has gotten wicked strong – I feel like I can do anything on brass/titanium gold and smaller diameter poles lol! I wonder if a 40 would be best for me though – that way my fingers could probably wrap all the way around it?!?!

Storypole – A 38 might work best for you if your fingers don't touch on a 45…but that's just my thoughts.

@Nightfall, Its not that 45's pinch, its that for certain moves, you are supporting your body weight on a smaller surface area so it hurts a little more than it would with a larger area. The transition from 50 to 45 was extremely smooth for me and I honestly haven't noticed a difference other than when it comes to grip.

I started with a 50 mm and now use a 45 mm pole. I'm kinda tall (5'9), and when I bought my first pole I read everywhere that tall girls need bigger poles. Well, my body is tall, but it turns out my hands are really small! My fingers don't even go around a 45 mm pole.
I often had forearm pain from split grip work on my 50 mm – luckily that's gone with the 45 mm. I would love to try a 40 or 38 mm pole – the hand grip must be incredible! But I'm worried that I'd have trouble with everything else then, the legs and stuff … Also they aren't available in TG or brass yet, as far as I know.

platinum stages has a 38 in brass and stainless (1 piece.) X pole will be getting the 40 brass at some point.
-
Oh, you're right, sensual, thanks! Though the poles from platinum stages that are height adjustable are only available in 45 and 50 mm (I think). But it's okay, I can wait. I already bought one new pole this year https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

xpole already makes a 40 in the brass but its only for sale in australia

Australia gets a bunch of cool stuff from XPole… like a 42mm and a titanium silver!

Started with a 50mm chrome X-Pole. However just tried the 40mm X-Pole chrome plus a 38mm brass. Loved them both. So now I’m waiting for X-Pole to release the 40mm brass in the states. The 50mm is just too big for my hands and I feel like I’m over-gripping at times just to hold on.

I started on a 45 and just got a new 5o about 8 months ago. I love the 50. I find it easier to almost everything on really. Knee holds and shoulder mounts do not hurt at all really on a 50 to me. There is no way I could use smaller than a 45mm. I am afraid some ladies will be poling on tooth picks soon. LOL! I personally do not get the smaller grips and I am small and have small hands. But the 50 seems to work for me. Someone once told me, if you master a move on a 50, you REALLY mastered the move. You could do it on any other pole with ease.

We learn on 50s at my studio but I struggled with hand grip as I’m only little so I bought a 45 for home. Now I’m better at pole I don’t struggle as much on the 50 but for new moves I find it easier to learn on the 45 then transfer to the 50. ESP superman!!

In the first studio I went to, I used mostly 45. They also had 50 but I didn't like them, nobody there did.
My first pole, wich was homemade by my dad, was smaller (42, I think) and that worked even better for me. I don't know about 40 or 38 but I would like to try it!
Now both my friend and I have a 45 at home, wich is easy because we also practice together. Luckily our new teacher uses them too, so we never have to adjust.
Neither of us is planning on ever competing, so we don't have to worry about there being bigger poles and losing our grip.

Well….. although I feel like it's a little on the thick side I got a 50mm pole for several reasons. First of them is that I'm a Plus sized poller and after doing to reading I learned that the bigger the pole- the thicker it will be (aka I needn't have a worry that it will bow or collapse while I'm doing a trick.) I also chose bigger to get used to gripping bigger- so that if I ever ended up doing a competition or something where they used the 50mm I wouldn't struggle to hold the larger pole. (I also ended up choosing chrome so that I would be used to gripping crome and not brass or titanium and end up with a struggle.)
I haven't yet tried any other size though so I'm not sure if I would have another preferance. ^^ Though I'm very happy with my 50mm and I can't wait till I'm a little bit better at poling.

I started out on a 50 custom brass pole made for my former home studio. When I finally got enough money to buy a home pole I got a 50 in chrome. My theory was alot like Cali's if I could nail the moves on the 50, anything smaller would be even easier! I now have a PS Star Stand Alone (the one used for AGT) in 50 in SS. I love chrome and SS better than brass. Brass is too grippy IMO. Ive tried 45 at pole jams and Pole Con this year. OMG I am in love with the 45. I can grip so much better hand wise on them. So my next venture is to to see if Platinum Stages can sell me just the pole to swap out on my Star Stand Alone!

Im with Jojodanza and Suigintou on this, I have tiny hands and short fingers, I love my 40 but would have gone smaller if They were avilable with Xpole! :p

My 45 mm is perfect for me! 🙂 I recently meet another poler in my area, and she has the 50mm (wich I thought I had for the first year I had mine, haha) that is def. to big for me.. I didnt even feel good doing spins on it, wich is what I think I do best on the pole. I once tried a 40 mm and since I have very skinny legs with a noticable gab between my thighs, I really had to squeeze to even do a pole sit without hands. The grip was great though. But my 45 is my baby.
45'ers always https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I learn on the 50mm with my instructor, but decided to buy a 45mm x-pert chrome, as I thought it would soon become the standard. My fingers are long, i'm tall, and i'm starting to think getting the 45 was the worst decision I ever made. ): Feeling so demotivated… I've been having trouble with my back and it seems that I can feel it hurt when i'm on my 45, but in class on the 50mm I can do everything fine with no pain at all. :/
-
I bought a 50, because thats what everyone said was best. I now wish I had known about the smaller options. I don't think I wanna go for the 38s and 40s, I really like 45s.
-
I just found out that mine is 50. Which is fine with me. I have small hands, but I'd rather get used to this size then have a smaller one get used to the smaller one and then go some where that has a 50 and then have a hard time with it.
-
my favorite is 38 or 40mm. I feel like a pole beast on that size… I can do anything! My favorite though is being able to spin one handed on spinny mode. I have large hands, but its still my favorite.
-
What size do you think would be good for me if I'm 5'7, medium/slender, with long skinny fingers and longish hands?
-
Athena, I am a lot shorter but I also have long skinny hands and I find I can get away with more on a 50mm than some of the girls with really small hands or stubby fingers, but I still prefer the 45mm. My hands almost wrap around a 50 (my longest finger and thumb touch, barely), and I'm comfortable using one, but when it gets to tricky spin work or anything where I have to contort around the pole, the 45mm is a lot more comfortable/secure. I think it's a great in-between size that most people work well with. The only thing I find that gets compromised on a 45 (for me) is elbow and armpit grips.
I tried the 40 briefly at the Midwest con and I bet spinning on that would be a dream, though!

I'm about 5'6" with freakishly long piano fingers :-p 🙂 and while I can do the 50, i love the 45 more for my inverts… I feel more secure with them… :-p
