What your first pole was and how functional it was for you?

I started to learn on a 50mm Xpole xpert gold coated (old top loading so very worn down) which was great for early poling and remains excellent for gripping. I bought a 45mm Xpole xpert chrome (cheaper than gold coated) a few weeks into poling. Its much better for hand grips but harder for leg grips at first, now im better, it’s better for everything. 45mm is defo the way to go over a 50mm if your little like me. The chrome finish is slippy though unless you are well warmed up.

I have a 45 xpole xpert. I’m 5’3 and I prefer a 50. My pole is very slippery and I have soft sweaty hands so it can be tough. I think if your an oily girl ( haha) get a tg pole and if your a dry girl (haha) get a chrome pole and most ppl prefer 45. I’m an exception 🙂

I want to make one note on being small with regards to diameter. I learned all my basics on a 50, and in that regard it is fine, but once I started doing moves like the gemini, scorpio, etc that require your torso on the pole, I cannot do them on the 50. My torso is too short for those moves on that diameter and the pole ends up mashing in my lower rib. I can do those moves no problem on a 45 and 38 and the pole sits comfortably in my waist. Twising around the pole in a ballerina spin is also hard on a 50, but much more doable on the 45 and 38.

My first pole was a 50mm chrome x-pole that I ended up getting powder coated back in march. I enjoyed the powder coating, but there are times it burns, lol. About 2 weeks ago I got to try a brass 1 piece pole in a size 45 and fell in love!!! Wednseday my pieces for a brass 45 x-pole should be arriving and can't wait. Plus I want to save up and get a 40 chrome from them too, so I'll have a choice on what to dance on.

My first pole was a 50mm Chrome X-Pole, spinning & static. I still use 50mm Chrome X-Poles in my studio all the time. I have to say though, I have small hands so I would prefer 45mm but I've managed quite well with the 50mm's thus far! I will eventually replace them though.
I've also used 40mm X-Poles and love them too but I think my favourite is 45mm.
I've tried a TG X-Pole and liked it too, it was a teeny bit harder to spin on TG on static mode but lovely on spinny mode. I've never used a Brass pole so I can't give my opinion on that.
The only thing you should DEFINITELY do is make sure to choose an X-Pert because even if you don't like spinny pole right now you might find that you want to do it at a later stage so pay that extra bit of money so that you have the choice.
I don't envy your decision! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
My first pole is a Lil Mynx Stainless steel pole, very basic…
And it is still my only pole. I've had it for about 4 years. 🙂

My first pole is a 45 mm TG X-Pert X-Pole. It will probably be the only pole I ever have, but that's okay because I love it.
I thought about purchasing a cheap pole (i.e. Peek-a-boo/Carmen Electra/ anything that comes from a novelty store) to tide me over while I saved, but after reading about just how bad and dangerous they are on here, I decided to save that money too and keep it for my pole. A good one. A safe one. I just had to wait a little longer, but it was totally worth it.
Upgrading to a safe pole is overrated. Start out with a safe one, with static and spinning, and you'll be able to keep it and use it for years without hitting the limit of its potential. Plus, you spend less money in the long run.

I used to have a 45 chrome X-pert now I have a 50 chrome and boy oh boy do I love it. I find that the 50 makes my spins much much better than they were on a 45 and I have tiny little baby hands and I'm only 5'2. Although I did learn all my spins on a smaller diameter pole which may have helped but for some reason I find that I execute them cleaner on the 50, something about the way I hold it I guess. I highly recommend gettingthe X-pole X-pert. It is amazing, really awesome pole. Other than that I used to dance on a brass lil mynx, I think 50mm but I don't remember and I absolutely HATE brass poles. It did not work with my skin I stuck like a bandaid to that thing and had no give at all which was bad bad bad.

I have a 50 mm chrome X-pert. It has both static and spin mode, although I rarely use spin. I feel like I do not stick as well on the chrome finish. I can do much more on the stainless steel poles at my pole studio.. I'm still not sure if being in a class environment makes me do better though, heh. I have not tried different diameters so I am not sure what would be easier for me.
X-pole makes high quality poles. I agree with the other posters: DO NOT get a cheap, crappy pole! If that hasn't convinced you, look up "pole dancing fail" videos on youtube… ouch!!

—————->Thank you all soooo much!! 🙂 I am rather smaller built (5'2'') and (this is embarrassing) I do sweat rather unusually for a girl of my stature. I guess that was the main issue i was having was, what type of finish should the pole have because i do tend to sweat alot. I didnt even know they made poles smaller than 45mm. I am defiantly looking at t he X-Pole as my number one choice. I live in an apt (downstairs thank heavens!) and would like to have a portable one that i can take down periodically. So I have another question…. Could someone list the stickiest finish to the slickest? Just so i have a ballpark of what grip i should go for 🙂
-
These are just in general, but everyone is different:
The stickiest at brass and powder coated, followed by titanium, then chrome, with stainless steel being the slickest.
I am also a very sweaty girl, and I stick to brass too much. It sounds weird to have too much grip, but it's true. It HURTS! and you get stuck! It's easier to add grip, but you cannot remove too much grip. TG, chrome and stainless are good for me in regard to working with sweatiness. I can stick too much to all except stainless…
For me, brass is the gripiest, followed by powder coated. The PC I can slide on if I can RELLY sweaty, but the brass I stick to under most conditions, sometimes way too much. Brass is the best for my hand grip, but I use gloves anymore…

To be honest you're probably opening quite a can of worms asking which poles are the grippiest. There seem to be oppposing opinions about stainless steel and chrome all the time. Some people prefer SS and some Chrome. BUT if you're getting an X-Pole it doesn't matter cause they don't actually do SS. I've never poled on Brass but the general consensous seems to be that it's very grippy in comparison to Titanium Gold and Chrome. I have poled on TG and found it more grippy than Chrome. Sometimes though the gold colour fades from the TG pole but the actual grip seems to stay the same.
Remember though, you can always use grip aides. I used to be SO opposed to using them until I discovered that they REALLY do help. I don't use them all the time. In fact I make a point of only using it if I'm doing a performance or a difficult new move. My hands are super clammy when I'm nervous or doing something new and I recently discovered Dry Hands which seems to work absolute WONDERS for me. Before that I was using Mighty Grip but it was never 100% reliable for me. Your best bet is to try out a few different types of Grip Aides.
In conclusion, EVERYONE in different! Different finishes and different grip aides affect different people in different ways! (See the way I'm hammering home the word, 'different' there!) -
I think i may win an award for this!!
My pole was won from Mypole.co.uk about 12 years ago and made by http://www.metalfast.co.uk/PolePage.html who were one of the first companies to make poles for home use, it was a removable 1 piece Brass 50mm and i LOVED it. Sadly it left with my ex and i now have a 45mm Chrome x pole which is nice but i do miss the brass baby.

my first was a 50mm stainless steel Lil Mynx. Nice pole but combo it with my extrememly dry skin and always cold house and I couldn't stick to it worth a darn. Got a 50mm chrome x pole a few years ago and like it much better but my favorites are my 50mm poledanzer brasses at the studio.
