What size pole do you all use?
Posted by poletrickster on November 15, 2009 at 4:21 amI am going to buy an XPole but I do not know what size I should get, I currently have the flirty girl pole and I hate it because it comes loose far to easily.

I have the 45 mm (x pole) I never used a 50 mm, but I think it’s to big for my small hands. My old dance pole was 42 mm. That was a better size for my hands. I had more grip.

I have a 50mm X-Pole. I wanted the 50mm as it is seemingly the standard size, thus you are more likely to cross paths with this size in classes and in the world. It is a pole of sheer bliss.

I used a 50mm. you get used to it. I’ve been on a 45mm and It was faster to spin and grip with. but I couldent hang on with my thighs for climbs. i’m sure if I practiced on it I could. But I already got used to 50mm.

50mm chrome xpole named Chaka and I love her very much LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’m short and compact in size plus have little hands, so I use our 1.75 size Dance pole instead of our 2 Inch Out Side Diameter. I love my smaller 1.75, one thing I will say is that I have both sizes in my studio so ladies who struggle with the 2 Inch don’t seem to half as mush with this one.

My hubby made my pole but it is the equivelent to a 45mm 1 3/4 inch. I went for the smaller size because I am very little! lol Being 5’2 and about 104lbs needless to say my hands are tiny. I tried one of my girlfriends pole and she must have the 50 but even that quarter inch makes it seem huge! I could use it but had a little difficulty with my grip and strength with inverts like butterfly because I felt like I couldn’t get a good enough grip but could probably get used to it. but I love my smaller size its perfect for my hands, sometimes bigger is’nt better LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

standard pole size: 50 mm- good luck in your decision process!

I had started off with a cheap peek a boo pole which was 50mm. I just got my xpole this week and I got the 50mm Chrome X-pole. Not sure about others, this seems perfect for my hands. I love it. Best of luck hun! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rendeer.gif

I’ve found that very few women have such small hands to make it impossible for them to use the 50mm/2 inch pole.
As mentioned the smaller pole may be more difficult for the leg holds. While it seems that many who use the smaller poles exclusively adapt to the size, it seems that learning to grip with the hands on a larger pole is easier to adapt to than learning to grip with the legs on a smaller pole.

So I just took my first pole class in portland oregon and the studio had both 45mm and 50mm poles I tired them both out. It seemed like the small pole was easier to spin but harder to climb. I need to get a pole and am torn on which size to go with. It seems like most of you like the 50mm.

oh my goodness I just dont know what to do??? Ok as a new pole person what would you all recommend?

Dezadera…Do you ever think you’ll want to compete or dance at other studios or clubs?? If so then get the 50mm. Yes, the USPDF is using 45mm but for the most part most poles are still the 50mm. Remember its easier to move from larger to smaller not the other way around. Hope that helps. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Well… i use 45mm!!!! I have tiny hands so… i guess a 50 mm would be a little difficult for me to get the grip, but i guess (and i’m not sure about that) that it helps with climbs and inverts tho… I mean, it’s easier for the leg area to get the grip (sorry, my english is a little bad, don’t know if i expressed the idea… Hahaha)!!!

Ok so I do not think that I will be competing any time soon. So I will go with the 50mm X-pole.
So what x-pole is the best? -
I started off with a 50mm xpole then went to a 45mm instead once I started doing more advanced moves such as the Aysha although in the studio I try to use both.
45mm is definately easier to get a good grip when doing more advanced holds.
If you are just poling for exercise and fun then it really doesn’t matter but as Veena said if you plan to go to the clubs then stick with a 50mm.

We have no clubs in our area https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
I am thinking maybe I should now go with the 45mm. I had more grip with spinning and I will just have to work on the climb. Thank You everyone for your help. -
What does everyone think of the super super skinny poles I’ve seen a lot of people using lately? I know Bobbi’s studio uses thin poles and…well she seems to turn out some talent doesn’t she! My only theory on this so far has been that I’ve seen all her students use spin mode, and maybe the added grip you get from the thin pole allows you to work more effectively on spin mode and build strength faster. Or just build strength faster from being able to grip split grips and such more easily. I know grip is pretty much my single biggest impediment with my split grip progress most of the time.

Deleted UserNovember 30, 2009 at 8:46 pmi have trouble with grip too, i dunno if its my hands that are super sweaty or the alcohol that im using isn’t the best; but sometimes i wonder if i should have gotten the 45 instead of the 50.
i heard they have 38’s though now!! that must feel like a twig in your hands!
-
i tried a 38 yesterday! OMG so freakin’ awesome!!!! I was able to grab and spin forever!!!!! I was doing things on the 38 that I am completely incapable of doing on a 45 or a 50 right now. But beware, it could be really easy to get spoiled working on a 38 very quickly. I am thinking eventually, I would like to a get 38 and a 45 in addition to the 50mm I already have. But yeah, you are right it is definitely a huge difference in size, I didn’t think of the 38 as being so much of a twig, but after being on a 38 the 50 felt like a tree trunk. haha.
-
I would like to try a 38mm, I love my 45mm you have a lot more control over your moves on a smaller pole, but there are some moves that are more painful on a thinner pole…I https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif would love to see the 45mm become the standard pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

This past weekend I had my first real experience on a 45…In my submission vid…the spin pole was a 50 and the static was a 45…it was awesome for any kind of hand grip..but I felt kinda odd with any thigh or knee holds…but I definitly want a 45….maybe for christmas!
