I submitted today! Have no idea how it will go, but I was able to get a video together that I like and am proud of, a first for me 🙂 Best of luck!
-
I submitted a video! I haven't been poling very long, so I'm not expecting to get in, lol, but it was great experience putting it together, I'm proud of my video, and hoping for the best!
-
That's so awesome! What are your youtube names? I saw yours Corby and it was soooo beautiful!!!!
I'd like to submit this year but I haven't been poling much due to heavy depression and the studio i work at only has static 50mm's brass (every girl's dream) but sadly I slip and slide on brass and can't do my best on a 50mm. I have rented space for 1 hour tomorrow so basically I have 60 minutes to get something together – no pressure lol!

I know…im so nervous…part of me realizes i haventhad much experience and prob wont get picked but theres partof me that has a little shred of hope lol…i wish they accepted more girls…there is SO much incredible talent from the videos ive seen and so many are deserving to show off their skills 😉 this week is already tortureeee waiting!

Deep breath everyone! LOL! I know it's nerve wracking but please think of it this way, there are only a few spots and hundreds of amazing dancers. I know I'm really nervous now to go shoot after seeing all the videos up there – you guys are really amazing. No matter WHO gets in, it doesn't change just how fabulous we all are and how much we made the USPDF work in making the decisions. HAHAHA Ladies – we are making the decisions really tough! Let's be proud of that!!!!!

Charley, you are very right, and its so easy to be over critical of ourselves…what we do is hard as hell and i have to agree that we all kick some serious butt…even the most basic of moves are NOT easy and we all need to be proud regardless of the outcome 😉 pole dancers are a rare breed 🙂

Killer florwork corby!!! I need to get my body to do that lol

Thank you jeanine! 🙂 Great advice on the deep breath Charley! I think its definitely important to remember that there are many many talented dancers, and only 8 spots! Which means there will be beautiful dancers submit who aren't able to compete. I know that I have submitted to competitions before and not gotten to them and felt bad about it, which was silly. So this time around, my goal wasn't to get in (of course, I would love it if I did), but to make a video that I was proud of and could watch without cringing. (I can be so hypercritical) And I did it! I really like my video. So whether I get in or not, I already feel like I won. 🙂 Often, just having the courage to make a video will be one of the best experiences, so mad props to all the ladies who are going for it!

The Pro's are in the same spot we are – there are only 12 pro spots and there are more than 12 people who have pro status, so even the pro's get told no sometimes.
I used to get so upset when I wasn't accepted into a competition now I feel like, well atleast I am good enough to submit and even think about it, right?
BTW, ALL of the videos look really amazing, it's totally making it hard to go film! LOL!
-
@ Charley – How do they determine whether someone's a pro?
-
Elektra…I beleive that you have to place in any of the competitions to be considered pro. They used to have East and West coast finals but I am not sure if they still do that. So if you place 1,2,3 in amature then you get your pro card. They have it set up similar to bodybuilding.
-
Exactly as Chemmie said and they also have pro cards they can give away at all the comps up to 2 pro cards can be given away which I believe was the case in the regionals in 2009.

I’m right there with Charlie, I used to get soooo mad when I didnt get in, but I also had a lot of negative people (ex boyfriend…ugh) putting things in my head too. Im in a better place in my life now, so I submitted again, why not, right? Doubt ill make it, but you can’t win if you dont play right? I saw some incredible videos and wish everyone the best of luck!!! 🙂 im not letting competitions make me who I am as a dancer, if some day I get to compete, great, if not, I’m going to keep going. 🙂

Ton be honest, I've been drenched in a heavy depression that has nothing to do with competitions but pole and pole break ups so I've really not been preacticing. Today I went to film and I couldn't get along in my own skin, so I might not be able to submit this year…no big deal.
Raquelle, I think you are an amazingly talented dancer and sadly too often there just aren;t enough spaces for everyone and it sucks soooo bad. I see girls, like you, who are off the charts awesome but every competition is inundated with amazing dancers and so few spots. It really sucks.
I'll also add for everyone that the midwest pole comp has a national division this year and we should all consider that one too.
Upcoming submission dates:
5/24 USPDF (Amateur)
6/10 Regional Mdwest
6/17 National Midwest
6/30 APFA
-
Charley, I hope you recover soon & that you can find that wonderful escape in pole again! Thank you SO much for posting the APFA date on here. I had seen it a while back and thought maybe I wasn't ready for it…but now I think I'll give it a shot :). @Raquelle-your videos are fantastic and you are incredibly flexible! Just keep on doing your thing girl 😉

I think it helps to remember to:
1. Not be our own worst critic.
2. Eat well, so you have enough energy.
3. Practice, review, practice and sleep on it.
4. Practice AGAIN!
5. Remember its just a competition. It doesn't define who we are or what we are capable of. There are so many variables. We have to submit 3:00 of time that is supposed to represent "a taste" of what we are capable of. Add pressure, and some nervousness and its enough to make any dancer a bit more tense!
Which brings me to 6. Relax, have fun, be yourself!
7. Be proud of what you did and all of the work that went into it. All of the sweat, pain, falls, pole kisses, late nights, thinking and work! It is work!
8.Reward yourself wether you are picked or not. If you don't get picked, its not the end of the world. There will ALWAYS be another competition https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
@ Charley, I am sorry you are going through that! I felt sooooooooooooooooo down on myself last week too. I just had a baby 5 months ago and I was feeling bad about not having as much energy as I did prebaby. Sounds crazy huh?! Well of course I am worn out sometimes. I got 2 kids, breastfeeding 1, am a mommy, a mother, a student(off this semester), do hair part time and find the time to pole 2x a week studio, 2x a week at home! Whew, I had to remember to give myself some credit! I have been poling for 7 years now and atleast I am submitting something for the first time!(even though I have performed hundreds of times) Suddenly competing turned foreign. I had to snap out of my funk and just give it my all! Ya know you were one of my inspirations for even submiting! I hope we are all recognized for our talents, if even just by our own selves!
Enjoy, good luck again!https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
