Tricks on X-Stages/Stand Alone Platinum Stages
Posted by Elle Rose on January 2, 2014 at 5:45 pmHey guys, I dont know if I’m doing this right, I’ve never posted before, but I’ve wanted to get my own pole for over a year because I can’t afford to go to classes. My nan is totally against having an X-Pole up though cos she’s scared it’ll fall down, damage the ceiling and I can’t really move my room around to get it on a joint.
I was just wondering if it would be worth me getting an X-Stage or a Stand Alone Platinum Stage?I know that definitely wouldn’t bother her. They are so much more expensive but I don’t think I’ll regret it if it works just as good. Are there some tricks that you can’t do on Stand Alone Poles? Or is it safe to do all tricks? I think I’ll be scared to go upside down on it for the first time.
Thanks for the help ๐

I had an X-stage lite and it was fantastic! It’s a beast to move because it’s so heavy, but as long as you just leave it up, it shouldn’t be a problem. The carrying case is worthless. Mine fell apart the first time I tried to use it.
As for tricks, I could do anything on it without any fear that it would tip. It does have a very slight wobble that you totally don’t even notice. That’s to be expected with any stand-alone type pole, though.
Note: the stage itself takes up room wherever you decide to put it. It was awkward enough in our living room that I switched it out for a regular X-Pert.

I would really consider a regular pole…..they are safe, and a stage will take up your whole living room!
-
I will also add that the PS pole height is only 6′ whereas the X you need at least 9 foot (maybe higher) ceilings or you need to order a shorter extension. Stages are no more or less safe than standard poles. Floorwork however is pretty much out of the question on a stage (not totally, but not easy).

chemgoddess1 makes a great point about floorwork. The x-stage was fab when we lived in a rental and couldn’t risk damaging the ceilings, but my favorite pole has been just the regular x-pert.

Urgh it’s making me sad that I can’t get an x-pert. Thank you, you have convinced me to buy one because I was concerned about it’s stability. I’m glad I’d get the same benefits as using the X-Pert, I just might damage myself if I try floorwork. Now to save up รยฃ500! Spending that is going to be the hard part!

I have an x-stage lite in my bedroom. yes it does take up some floor space and makes floorwork more difficult but for me it was this or no pole. I rent and have really high vaulted ceilings and there was no way for me to put up a regular pole. it is very stable and I trust it more than my x-pert that I had years ago because I have seen those poles shift. it is heavy and I don’t move it. it stays in my room. it’s great as long as you don’t plan on moving it a lot. I use a yoga mat on my stage to practice floor work. I have seen some really great performances where the dancer was able to do awesome floor work with a stage. it is just a challenge and if you can work around it you will be bad ass. ๐

you won’t regret it. I just got one. And although my Xpert is my fav (bc I live in an apt and don’t want to bother my neighbors with late night poling), you don’t have to worry about setting it up anywhere – outside, at the beach, wherever!

I hate stages. Am I the only one who hated both of them?
I have had 2 XStages and 1 XSL (I sold the XSL and one Xstage). I know Val from C-bus hates hers too… They are useful to have for public performances, but I can’t stand poling on it regularly and they’re constantly having problems–never safety issues, but just annoyances like spin mode will just stop working for a while. Each one has it’s own quirks. I like dancing on the full stage more than the lite because I have had the base of the lite move while doing spins with high momentum or performing on spin mode.
I know a couple people with the PS poles. They’re also scary to me. I’ve seen one bend significantly during a performance while the dancer was doing an Iron X on spin. The bases physically move with high momentum type moves. Reverse grab spins, corkscrews, spin mode…
Chemmie- Xpole is 10ft if you don’t buy an additional extension. The extension is only like 50 dollars though… PS is now 8-10 ft. -
If the x pole is too pricy, check out a SV pole….they are super safe and more reasonable.

Xpole makes xstages in 8ft pieces now. I own 2 of them and I love them to take and do at home parties at people’s homes. An 8 ft stage ALWAYS fits in every home so I don’t need to call ahead and figure out what extensions to bring. Although I do own extensions and currently have a 12 ft xstage lite in my living room. Everyone is right about floor work but I see so much value in having stages. I take them to the beach and park whenever I want to pole outside (although I do live in san diego) I also like that I can unscrew just 3 screws (on the new style stages, only 1 on old style) and take the pole out and put it away when I have company over.
I totally agree about the bags though! Every single one has ripped and even when I got free replacements from xpole, they ripped again ๐ I bought little carts from Costco that I carry my stages around on. -
An Xpert Lite stage is 1600mm (5′ 3รขโฌย) in diameter which is the very minimum size anyone would need to dance without hitting an external object(even that is tight)and so size in a room is not an issue it is only the height.
It is true floor work is not easy on any stage unless the stage is big enough but then it will not fit in a home. So an Xpert pole is the best way to go if floor work is important.
The height on X-Stages can be adjusted in 2 ways.
1st – The top pole tube can be cut to size using a hacksaw รขโฌโ not a difficult job and because of the way the top cap is designed it does not have to be too pretty a cut!
2nd – Another extension tube(s) can be purchased to fit the required height.
Often it is best to cut the B tube (can be done in 10 minutes) so you can get the maximum height for your ceiling and then buy a second B Pole later if you needed it.
If you need any help please contact the UK office on 0208 4489 4400, who will be pleased to assist.
X-Stages were upgraded in the last quarter of last year and now feature a new bearing unit which significantly reduces pole movement.
One other way to improve rigidity further and address the height issue is to use a Competition pole (length 2.3m 7’6) with an adapter this again improves the rigidity of the pole and reduces movement. Additional extensions can then be added to increase the height.

My very first pole was my star stand alone stage made by Platinum Stages. The pole comes in 2 pieces and is actually 7.5ft, and I bought an additional 2ft extension piece that connects. The base takes up about 6ft of round space. For the purposes of being a new student it worked great for me! It is very sturdy, I have never tipped it over – and I tried (to make sure it was safe!) It was pricier than a regular pole but I lived in a condo with tall ceilings and wood floors and my dear hubby wasn’t crazy about installing a pole (even a removable one). I never regretted buying the stage, it literally takes 5 minutes to put together and take apart. I’ve travelled all over with it, and you can break it down and hide it in a closet if you need too lol. It’s definitely not as sturdy as a pole that is drilled into the floor, or even a removable pole, but its’ still very safe and I use mine for events all the time still. Check out my videos – I have one of the assembly of the pole straight out of the box. =)

Thanks for the help. I don’t think floor space will be a problem hopefully, so I’m definitely going to get an X-Stage ๐

Measure your max ceiling height at the point where you want to use the stage and then give us a call at the UK office next week and we will get it sorted for you, we will even cut it to height for you. Will take a few days more but at least it will be done.
