Titanic tips and tricks
Posted by mizzli on May 8, 2013 at 4:45 amHi all,
Finally looking at tackling this move, which is a biatch to get… for some reason as soon as I lean back the pole starts to slip out from my thighs.
From looking at some YouTube vids, I've figured out the points of contact is your upper thigh near the crotch and the sole of your feet pressing against the pole. Also keep the back curved but then from this bit the pole starts to slip from inbetween my thighs no matter how hard I'm squeezing – maybe not enough?
Does anyone have any tips for this move?
Many thanks polers! x

I know it's possible to do it without the neck on the pole, but for me it really helps to squeeze the pole against my neck behind my ear, as it gives me an extra point of contact. I also cannot get Titanic on a 45 no matter how hard I squeeze; it's much easier for me on a 50. You can see the neck-squeeze-thingie in this picture: https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/518ab83b-7c10-447c-ade5-31ed0ac37250
Good luck! 🙂

shelly has a tutorial video on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItC1qUOzJPI
I also thought that aerial amy had a trick tip video for this move, but I gave a quick search and didn't find it. Maybe the above one will help?

You might be thinking of the video Dirdy Birdy did recently on the Icarus? It's a similar trick.
Here's another Titanic tutorial:

That's the one I was thinking of! Sigh. I watch too many tutorial videos on youtube to keep them all straight. That and my brain is just generally completely shot.

Hi ladies,
Thanks for your replies – sorry I didn't put up an image of what I mean: http://www.tantrafitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Free-Pole-Lesson-Online-Titanic-Tantra-Tutorials-Veronica-Solimano1.png
I've heard some people call it Illusionist too or something.
As soon as I start leaning back to get my shoulder on the pole or be a bit more vertical, the pole starts to slip from in between my thighs and I start to slide off the pole.
I've seen two YouTube tutorials so far on this but none have helped. 🙁
Studio409, thanks for your tip 🙂 – how do you mean switch legs? I use my right leg as an anchor and my left leg at the sticking out one – so try it the other way?

Go from superman… split your legs, choose the leg which will have the foot against the pole. That leg bring down and keep the knee tight to the pole and foot on. The knee placement is really important, keep your chest up but don't pull yourself in too much like you would do on a figure head to shoulder mount for instance as that makes you loose the grip. keep bum in position while your pulling your chest high and of course your back leg is not just out but also over in a thigh hold kind of position. Have someone spot you by being there to catch your shoulders so that you don't faceplant the floor. x

Hi MissSKR,
Thanks for the tips! I think I was trying to get too vertical, so will try keeping chest up at 45degrees angle.
Is it the side of the knee that needs to make contact?
-
Here is a tutorial I saw on YT a while ago. xoxo

I got mine first time I tried it. from superman I bring my left leg to side. I turn my knees in towards the pole. and arc my back as much as I can. I squezze throigh my arse thighs as hard as possible. look on my wall my pick is on there. hope I heloed xxx

I was trying this move from that video PFM posted and it didn't work for me either. I'm still working on this one too. I'll have to post a progress video soon. hml888 you should post a progress video too.
-
Hm. I haven’t tried getting into it from a superman yet. I’ve been going in from a side climb.
-
Hi ladies,
Hmmm, that's interesting – I might try getting into the titanic from a side climb @ poledanceromance
I tried following the instructions from the three YT vids posted but they don't work for me either. I tried with my instructor and we are both baffled at how to keep the pole between the thighs and stop slipping and sliding down. I tend to bounce off the pole as soon as I arc my back. Arghhh so frustrating – but I will try to get some vids posted of my progress!
I did give switching legs a go but didn't try too hard as I was tired after my lesson. This weekend I will try putting my left foot against my pole instead of my stronger right foot and try to cross that over.
@zoeyxxxx – thanks for the tip! I will definitely try turning my knees towards the pole tonight.
Watch this space! 🙂

Yes I definitely notice that there is quite a bit of contact between my inner and the pole. Getting that right seems to be the key for me.
-
I emphasize sqeezing the inner thigh hold as well as sickling the foot as much as possible. Also as you enter the move, try not to move the back leg at all. Keep it as far back and as still as you can as you place the forward leg on the pole. You need to keep the pole right up in the upper thigh as close as possible to the crotch.
Keep sqeuezing the thighs, glutes and abs as you enter the move.

Here's my question for all of you–can this be done in shoes? I very much prefer dancing in shoes and may have to write this one off if it's dependent on the foot grip. :-/
-
Wondering the same thing, Polergirl. Every photo I've seen of it has the foot grip, so I think I'll just do the version where both feet are on the floor (behind the pole). That move may have another name though?

I have seen Phoenix do it with no feet on pole. If you go through this album you will see that yes it can be done:

@polergirl – Yes this move can be done in heels! There is a pic of Leesi doing it in the titantic fb album.
-
OK…. it seems like all the no feet versions are done by dancers with verrrrry bendy backs. Possible for not-so-flexible back, in heels? Maybe, I'll give it a go tomorrow and see what I come up with lol.
-
I’ve only ever done titanic without the foot on the pole. There is a lot of lower back mobility involved. I feel like the foot on the pole makes it confusing, like I drop my hips too much. I find pushing your chest out the same way you do in an elbow stand helps
-
I have a video with my first attempts without the foot…I still have yet to try it with the foot. There are some good tips in the comments you guys might wanna read. Including tips from the creator of the move Phoenix Kazree. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/511008f8-a4a4-4ea0-b99b-5bb40ac37250

Thanks for the tips again.
I had another go using my left foot on the pole and can feel the burn inbetween my thighs (which I couldn't before) but still cannot hold it and lurched forward with thud onto the floor. >_< I feel I'm getting closer to it though! Maybe need to tense my abs a bit more? Still have a slight slippage problem, maybe it's the pole as I've always been having issues with leg grip on my current pole. 🙁
