The American Pole To Peak Challenge – please “like” on Facebook!
Hello everyone!
Most of you have heard of Debbie Plowman but for those who have not…
Debbie is a 32 yr old mom of 2 who was paralyzed from the neck down when she fell off a pole during class on 12/9/2009.
She was knocked unconscious and stopped breathing…she was resuscitated by a friend who was present in class with her.
Debbie had been taking classes for two years and was doing a cross ankle release (a move she had done many times in the past) from just 12 inches above the floor!
She now requires a ventilator to breath and communicates with a special computer which tracks eye movement. Although she has no movement or control from the shoulders down, she can still feel pain. Scans indicate there is no brain damage.
She has a LONG road ahead. Her prognosis is unknown at this point and it will be a long time before they are sure what she can recover.
In March 2012, up to 30 people affiliated with pole dancing will climb Mt Kilimanjaro in the Pole To Peak Challenge to raise donations for Debbie and her family.
My brother Ken and his wife Nancy have committed to this event and we have created a website and a Facebook page. We will be hosting events and working to raise funds for Debbie throughout the year.
We are hoping that local studios can also participate with fund rasiers like pole jams, pole-a-thons, collections, etc.
We have incorporated a US organization (The American Pole To Peak Challenge For Debbie Plowman, Ltd) which is pending 501c status (tax exempt) with the IRS so that others in the US who wish to send their donations can claim the deduction on their returns.
Right now I'm just trying to build awareness by helping our Facebook page to grow.
