I'm entering the fourth week of not being able to pole due to a shoulder injury I got while learning shoulder mount hops, and I'm wondering if any of you have tips on how you stayed in poling shape during an injury.

This is my second timed getting injured poling. The first time was an oblique tear- I couldn't do anything.  Thankfully, this time I can still run, lift some weights, do some yoga/stretching, and do sit-ups (SO tired of sit-ups!), but I can't do push-ups, pull-ups, or shoulder work at all.

Anyway, what do you guys do when you have to take time off? Apart from spending more time on poling websites to scratch the itch, obviously 😉

I've been nursing a miniscus tear for almost 4 months : ( I've been walking to keep it moving and hold off the lbs, but mostly I've focused on flexibility. Other than that, anything that I can do within my range of motion and comfort level. It's frustrating for sure…hang in there!

Grrr, getting injured sucks.  Thankfully, many of us have been there.  I've been in touch with someone else about a similar issue recently.  I herniated my disc last October, there were weeks that went by when I couldn't even touch the pole:(, it was very sad indeed.  There have probably been too many tears shed on this though!  This is an injury that I'm still working on, but is thankfully getting a lot better, especially after my cortisone epidural.  Try to find a good PT to help you focus on specific exercises.  This can really help you maintain the strength that you need!  Thankfully, the therapist that I found seems to understand my neurotic behavior about pole and aerial dance, and has been as focused as I am about getting better.  The PT helped to give me something to focus on other than just my injury, and probably saved my sanity too:)!  The bigest thing to try and remember is try not to focus on what you cannot do, and try to focus on what your amazing body can still do.  Sometimes it makes us more creative, because it makes you think out of the box!  More floorwork?
