  • Sandpaper (gasp) new brass pole?

Posted by Lyme Lyte on December 26, 2012 at 10:27 pm

Love my new brass pole….the smooth spin, the smaller diameter, but it is slick! I have tried everything imaginable and am about ready to take sandpaper to this pole like I did my chrome. Anyone sand down their brass? If I have to I will get it powder coated, but heck I paid extra for the brass and it is so pretty so just don’t want to resort to that. Maybe a light sand job? So looking all all options first. Advice appreciated…..

PLEASE let me know what you decide to do! i am having so much problems with mine during the cold months, slick slick slick. i keep throwing out resorting to powder coat because I hate that i spent all this money on it just to powder coat it… I would rather just buy a second pole to have instead of powder coating…
    im frustrated too

I have heated it w a heater to the point it is hot. I have sprayed it with Cramers. I have used I tac, and now Corn Huskers. I have tried getting the room humid and then not humid. I used brasso and acetone on it as well. Windex and plain water. White vinegar and apple cider vinegar. Running out of options here, but any hand grips are almost impossible.

I have also thought about putting chemicals on it to make the tarnishing process go faster, maybe it will be grippier when tarnished……

wow! i havent done all of these… but i tried cramers the other day and it worked for a little while but then got slick again… i use a shit load of dry hands so i can grip… but then my hands get too dry and makes poling unenjoyable-because at that point my hands arent the problem, the pole is.
although I do battle with sweaty hands, the pole has been a pain the last few months.. it waa great during the summer

I am becoming concerned with what I am hearing about Xpole's brass pole. Brass is supposed to be the grippy one! I have been on Platimum stages brass and they are impossible to slide on. Sometimes spins even hurt a little. I want a brass but may go PS.

Why do the newer versions of poles seem to be less superior to the older ones? Back in the day brass was a guaranteed pole for grip – too much grip if anything. Are these companies really using brass?

Luvlee, yes, mine and AZ both have the PS….and the grip, or lack of, is killing me. I have been reading up on threads here tonight and it sounds it’s the same with all the brands. Actually, my best gripping pole is the one I spray painted..it is a cross between my LM PC and my once slick chrome.

    great question cherished!
i am also very curious to order bobbis portable pole from australia which is really a pussycat pole that bobbi made removable that she now sells.
its australian made and they are not a large company so maybe their brass is better?
I jusr dont have the 800$ for it right now… they are a lot more pricey and I dont even want to know what it will cost to ship the thing…
after buying the pole and shipping i could have bought a stage

I dislike brass….it is either too slick or too grippy for me; there is never a middle ground.  Brass seems to like being dirty.  Probably the quickest way to tarnish brass is with ammonia.  I would try that before trying to sand brass.  Brass is a very soft metal and I am not convinced that sanding it would be a good option.

Ok, I'm getting a little concerned because I plan on buying a Brass X-Pole is the spring. My thought process is that my Chrome is good right now, in the colder months, but the Brass would be good for the humid summer. I was going to buy TG, but I reaad here that  there isn't enough difference between it and Chrome. What to do????

I don't know what to say at this point.  I read brass was nice and sticky…..sure isn't, at least for me.  Now Luvlee has been on PS brass pole and they are grippy for her.  I am wondering if the one she was on is more tarnished?  If thats the case I'm going to speed up the tarnishing process.    I am also going to get a themometer and humidity monitor in my basesment and record what is the best temp and humidity level when the pole tends to have some grip (which is never).  Then I can adjust by running my space heater and the showerto the proper levels.  But what a pain in the ass!  Guess in hind site I would have just bought  a chome, sanded and painted again.

btw, I stick to my brass pole wheter it is clean or dirty. I just stick MORE when it is dirty. I have really grippy skin though. I stick well to almost any finish (except with my hands cuz they sweat like a beast.)

From what I've seen on here, if you struggle with stainless and chrome, you'll probably also struggle on brass (though that isn't a guarantee,) simply because your skin doesn't have that extra grip. my body wouldn't stick to my brass when I first got it cuz I was on that medication that made me stop sweating, which in turn made my skin really really slick. Your skin needs some friction to it to stick well.

when I say I stick, I STICK. I sometimes cannot slide down!

I just bought a PS Brass 45 and yes having the same grip problems. Another thing is that I don't know but for some reason it scares me cause it seems so bendy. I have the star standalone and I know they move, but for some reason I just think it is going to snap in half! Am I tripping or does anyone else find this to be true?

brass is a very soft metal, so you have to be gentle with it. It will have a lot of flex, especially as you go down in diameter and when compared to steel poles.

I don't think you have to worry about is snapping in half….otherwise, I don't think they would be selling them.  Do you have a one piece?

I can't remember who, but someone on here posted pics of her 38mm brass pole that she managed to bend. Just be gentle with it. No crazy spins or anything.

No it came in two pieces. I wanted to try the brass without having to buy a whole new standalone and they make them in two pieces.

Aerial, I can't manage to do any crazy spins…..I would go flying off!
