Yesterday I got an invitation on facebook to "like" something called "leopard nation". I didn't even know what it was but it had a picture of cleo the hurricane so I thought it was a page about her and liked it inmediately. Then I got distracted I guess and didn't look at it anymore! But later on that day some guy ("Johny Rock") added me. I thought he must be into pole…and he told me he had a band with cleo and sent me this link: http://www.reverbnation.com/leopardnation I thought she played drums but she actually sings here!!! You can hear a bit but the official EP will be released in October.

I'm pretty curious, from the bit I've heard I think it's glam in a Twisted Sister or Joan Jett style. I've been wondering if the band would think of doing good songs to pole to. 😛

So, I wanted to ask what you girls think about this and how many of the people in this forum are into hard rock and heavy metal. If you are, do you pole to just rock or other music too? (cause you know some people who listen to rock feel like they have a certain "metal reputation" to keep and they don't want to be seen related to other music genres) Don't you feel sometimes that heavy metal needs a different pole approach than other music, because it's hard to follow, too fast or too unpredictable? (I think you need to be as agile and fast as cleo to do it right! it's hard!). I think dancing to rock really makes you develop a particular pole dancing style. And would you name some hard rock or heavy metal songs you like to pole to?

I think some bands are perfect for pole dancing: evanescence, korn, metallica (at least from load album, which is unfortunately not their best albums)…and then there's my favourite bands which are harder to pole to but I think looks great if you can do it: megadeth, the old  metallica, judas priest, disturbed..and then there are some bands I would love to pole to but I don't because they are old and I know that if you do a show with "old sound" it's just not the same, it really affects the audience; so I only pole to those at home: Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Black Sabbath…

Well, I'd like to find some more people who like to rock on the pole (:

I definitely like to pole to rock!  I dance to a lot of the bands that you allready mentioned (love, love, love dancing to old metallica).  Korn, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Apocolyptica, Five Finger Death Punch and Ozzy are some others that frequently find their way onto my playlist.

But I don't dance exclusively to hard rock.  What I dance to on the pole is as varied as what I listen to. I'm fairly certain that you can pole dance to anything.  This morning  my pole session included everything from Roger Waters (like The Wall – love Radio KAOS) to Brad Paisley (country)  Last night it was mostly jazz and yesterday morning it was our local radio station's morning bluegrass hour.  For me I find that if I dance to just one thing I start to get into a rut and I'll find myself doing the same moves in the same sequence – even when I'm not intending to.  Changing up the music (and therefore the rythm) seems to make my brain stay more focused on what I'm doing.

Oh yes rock chick here https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I have always been into hair band but i love more recent rock and metal band. Most of them i can dance to, you have to choose the good song and learn to pick the beat that is more easy to follow in it. You can go with the lyric or another beat in it, listen carefully the next time and you see it's not that bad.

I would love to dance as fast and crazy as Cleo but honestly that girl have so much energy i don't think it would be possible. It was kind of hard to follow her on her Cherry Pie routine.

    Hell yeah! I'm one! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif

As much as i think the soft ballet-esk new age music is pretty and stunning to watch, i really love to see girls just balls to the wall rock out. I dream to be a mix of Cleo and Alethea Austin.

I'm a child of the 90's so I love my teenage angst  years of metal and rock like Disturbed, Metallica, Korn, Linkin Park, Drowning Pool, and Staind. As well as just pop your booty kind music that pushes that "strip-esk" button. Sadly my teacher plays slow melodic stuff that puts me to sleep. Once in a while Nirvana or Michael Jackson will pop on but its still not enough "energy" for me. I think if she played like "Down with the Sickness" she would see a whole other side of me then the timid little bunny I appear to be.

I love heavy metal and rock, Octane is one of my top xm channels I listen to along with BPM!! I'm really liking Halestorm right now.

I use to play guitar and bass guitar.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif  Webmaster and I had a little band back when we were first married. LOL Lately I have been thinking I'd like to start playing again, now that we have a home where we can keep them out!

I love rock and metal too, although I mostly use slow or mid-tempo songs to pole to, I'm not strong or fast enough to keep up with the faster tunes!

On my pole playlist I have lots of Motley Crue, AC/DC, Van Halen, plus lots of 90's stuff. My favourite Metallica songs are The Memory Remains and Turn the Page. Controversially, Load, Reload and Garage Inc are my favourite Metallica albums, I love the slow, heavy tempo and the voice of Hetfield on those albums.

Slash's new album is also good to pole to, the songs have a cool swagger to them.

Oh yeah!  System of a Down, Marilyn Manson, and Tool are some of my favorites to dance to!  You do have to pick up the pace to dance to metal but I don't ever pay attention to the beat – I dance to the "flow" the runs underneath the beat.  That's how I'm able to dance to Slipknot and Slayer without killing myself! 😉

I love dancing to deftones, korn, and metallica! That is so awesome that you guys use to play, veena!
Some of the songs are a little intimidating to dance to because they are fast- but Rikki gave some great advice on this issue 🙂
    Great post!

Yes, I do the same as Rikki but I don't like the way it looks for a show, I like going exactly with the music so I always use slower songs but that also rock. For example, I love megadeth but I think it's too much for pole dancing so I dance the intro of 5 magics. Sometimes using thw intros before everything explodes is useful. Or choosing a song that is all slow like metallica's version of Turn the page, I love tat one. Tonight I'll dance ina  pub and I'll be dancing A touch of evil by judas priest. It's heavy, sexy and it's not that fast.

what about…do you dance in a special way when you dance to havy metal? Cause when I do I know I use more kicks and waving my hair a lot 😛 I also think slash has great songs to pole to!! thank you all for the ideas!!

veena: do you have any material of your band?? it'd be nice to listen to it (:

When I dance at home, I dance to a lot of indie music. When I dance at work, I dance to only (alternative) rock. Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle (I splooshed pretty hard when Chelle danced to Counting Bodies Like Sheep at IPC this year), and then some Celldweller, Chevelle. A lot of the more hardcore rockabilly girls dance to 5 finger death punch and whatnot. I’ve noticed they just cut the tempo in half and dance to that instead of trying to keep even pace.

I love dancing to rock. Nine Inch Nails are probably my all time favorite. Then Tool/APC/Puscifer, Deftones, and some indie rock like Black Keys and most things by Jack White. I just love how the music is paced. I definitely enjoy ZZ Top, Tom Petty, The Cult, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, AC/DC, and Led for dancing, as well as the glam boys too, Def Leppard, Poison, Warrant, Ratt, etc. There are so many genres in rock, the possibilities are endless. Rock makes me feel sexxaaaay. lol.

I’m also totally diggin In This Moment’s new single Blood.

Hey!! I am a Metal/Rocker chick all the way. I am open minded and love a little of everything, but metal is me. I have a heavy playlist that I even dance to death and black metal (some of my favorite to dance to)…and love like Alethea to dance to the doom/stoney stuff. I look forward to gaining more speed because I do agree it looks better and sometimes is needed, but I find there is usually a way to connect with a song if it's in you. Lol I LOVE to booty bounce to blast beats!! I started a facebook fan page, but have been unsure of it so if you all would like to participate (sharing videos, songs, anything)..I would love to bring this to light more. I made Cleo's Metallica tank and want get creative with rocker pole/active wear, as well as highlight this side of pole.Looking back as a little girl watching Motley Crue's Girls, Girls, Girls video is probably where I was first drawn to pole, along with some of the other sexy 80's videos… As I have read about hip hop being a lifestyle..I think that rock and metal is as well. It's in you and reflects out of you.

Thanks! Try again..I just realized I hadn't published it ;).. It's just been something I was playing with. I started it as a page to also hopefully gain more interst in pole, instead of making a group. Pole Rockers if the link doesn't work maybe you can find it in search! 🙂

Maybe we could have a "Rock Out" challenge sometime, where we dance to our favourite rock songs?

I'm not really poling at the moment, my pregnancy is making me very nauseous and weak, but I just love watching other girls dance to rock music 🙂

I'm not in general a rock music fan so I just try to go along with it when our freestyles in class end up being rock anthems. But taking a workshop with Cleo AND seeing Rock of Ages gave me a renewed appreciation for the cheesy bombast of 80s hair metal so every once in a while I enjoy just rocking out on the pole at home. A lot of the stuff like Puscifer, Disturbed etc are just not my cup of tea TBH. But I think its always cool to find something new in music that doesn't immediately move you 🙂

I love rockin' on the pole to heavy metal and rock and roll.  My stamina is not that great, so I usually take it at half pace so I can keep breathing.  😛  Besides a ton of the bands that have already been mentioned I like Soundgarden, Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin…the list goes on.  🙂

Some of my favorite songs to pole to are "Topless" by Breaking Benjamin, "Feel Like I Do" or "Tear Away" by Drowning Pool or "Bleeding Me" by Metallica.  I think that any song that evokes an emotion within you is worthy of a little pole play.  And for faster tempo music, there's no rule that you have to dance to every single beat.  Sometimes it's fun to play with different rhyhms and accents in the music. Plus, I think it's super sexy when you slow the movement down and ride the music just behind the beat.

I LOVE the rock out challenge idea!!! let's do it!!!

Jessilee: I agree with you, metal is a lifestyle and it has to do with being true to yourself, thinking for yourself, always doing what you think it's right and never letting anyone tell you who to be or what to do. I just liked pole rockers page. (:

I'm excited to see some polers rock!! please make videos!!! I didn't know some of the bands you named…for example 5 finger death punch! I don't know anyone who listens to this band, I loved it! I knew if you named bands or songs I was going to find something new.
