Pole and Heels, and pole and bare feet….that is the topic, lol
Posted by MsChocoateLEO on November 30, 2012 at 11:58 pmUGH, practice the other day was a bummer!!! On this particular day i decided that i was going to pole with heel on…….and lets just say that i have a much greater respect for those who do it and make it look super sexy! On the good side, spins look super with heels on but when it comes to inverts and switch leg move, that almost took my life(lol), yeah lets just say that the pole and heel meet/get together wasn't good. Even though I'm bummed out about this practice, i will continue to changeling myself and make this heel situation work out for me. So ladies how many of you pole in heels and like and how many of you avoided it all together??

I always dance in heels :-). I feel weird barefoot – it’s a challenge for me to do pole with no heels! But when I’m learning something new, I will be barefoot until I feel comfortable with it. The heels tend to add a little more weight, so it can feel really strange to do things with them on if you’re not used to it. Keep practicing walking in in them, doing basic filler moves and basic spins. It will pay off I promise!

Thanks StoryPole17, i will continue to practice in them. I'm going to look to your videos for motivation 🙂

I learn barefoot and usually dance barefoot. I approach dancing in heels like a treat- I'm not always in the mood for it, but when I am feeling particularly sexy or fun, I'll dance in heels! I'm extra careful in how I move and spin in heels so I don't poke an eye out and die so I can pole again another day.

Whenever I learn it’s barefoot. I won’t do a certain move in heels until I’ve mastered it. Just for saftey. There will be certain moves I will cheat and use vinyl boots for (spatchcock and keem when I get to them) but my boots are only like, a 2″ heel. If it’s not atleast 4″, I don’t count it as a heel.
The bigger the better, right ;P

I went to a studio where they only practiced in heels – warm up and cool down was barefeet but the rest of the class was in heels. Coming from a studio where I was always taught bare foot, it was weird and I kept wobbling on my heels at first (I dove straight in and bought 7 inch heels lol) but now I love dancing in heels.
The problem is that I am now back training in studios that only teach in barefeet…. 1 studio doesn't mind me wearing heels but everyone always stops and watches me practice (probably because I don't land quietly :P) and I'm not comfy with that… but yeah I prefer dancing in heels because it makes me stand better, makes me feel taller and it gives me more confidence and feel more feminine. And the taller the better!! I don't like to dance in anything lower than 6inch heels heehee. I spend my days in baggy pants and trainers, I don't go on nights out anymore so when I dance I like to dress up 🙂
And if I'm practicing a new move – as long as the move doesn't involve the possibility of me stabbing myself in the head with the heel 🙂 Stick with practicing basic moves with your heels on to gain more confidence and soon you will love it too 😀

The studios I attend in the sacramento area teach barefoot but they have the heels there as an option. The studio I go to in orange county teaches barefoot as well but sometimes we will do a segment of class involving heels and when we have free dance time at the end sometimes girls will put heels on then

My studio teaches everything barefoot although if you have the heels you're more then welcome to use them. My teacher is no stranger to them and does her freestyles in them beautifully. No one so far has been brave enough {besides my teacher}.
I'm a 105% barefoot girl. I tried heels twice and i felt like a awkward deer. Felt no way sexy and it hindered my natural style. So i just don't bother with them.

Definitely heels for me. I love the way the look and they also they protect my feet. Practice is key when adjusting to heels. If you like them and it is something you want to learn, keep at it and you will be more comfortable in no time!

I would love for my dancing to be more balanced between shoes and bare feet, but… I agree with LittleEngine! I feel like an awkward deer in my heels! I can, at least, walk in them now.
To be fair, I don't practice much in them, and my pole is kind of short, so the taller I get, the less pole I have to play with. One day… One day I shall have vaulted ceilings!

I will throw my two cents in here! I LOVE shoes. I like how they look and I love wearing them. I do find wearing them to be a challenge though. EVERYTHING is harder in them. Everything. Since I like to perform in them, I try to be able to do everything in them. SOmetimes I learn a move barefoot then try it in heels. There are still some things I can not do in heels. Cartwheel is one of the moves. I even feel like inverting in them is awkward. I love it though because once I CAN do those moves in heels, I will know practicing in them has paid off.
I do however like to dance once in a while in my bare feet. If you keep pretty toes it can be quite elegant and change the whole performance!

For me it all depends on what I’m dancing to and how I’m feeling. If I’m going for the sexy…nothing beats a pair of stilettos. If I’m doing a more lyrical piece, then I go barefoot. I love both!

I usually learn a new move in barefeet and then switch over to heels. I practise mostly in shoes but now I feel like I need to give equal time to both. I think because I've been neglecting barefeet poling, my toes aren't as pointed as they used to be even though I try to point them in heels.

Also if you stick with it inverts in shoes will become as easy as without. It just takes time to adjust

I love wearing shoes!!! However, they can be a pain for certain things. I cannot wear them whilst doing a handspring/cartwheel or shoulder mounting (I can't SM deadlift yet). There's something awkward about swinging my leg with the shoes on. Maybe I just need more practice.
