Since this is a place to connect polers from both this and that part of the hemisphere, I thought that some of you might be close enough to be able to make it to the second edition of our much anticipated event this fall:
Pole Art 2010
International Showcase and Competition
September 25th
Stockholm, Sweden
http://poleart.org/The event is open to contestants from all countries, both men and women. It highly encourages creative and new approaches to pole, features an advanced category with 1000EUR in cash prize, as well as a non-competative showcase where you can go artistically bananas with no holds barred.
And guest of honor is no one less that Jenyne Butterfly https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifIt’s going to be so much fun I’m squealing already!
…oh, and here’s a video from last year’s event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gebtdTxD3RQ

i’m thinking of entering!! i dont know about the travel expenses to Sweden https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif but if there is a comp for me the artistic out of the box -weird one would be it! i’ve got a bunch of ideas too…hummm…
on the website it say though it they pick you , or your scheduled to compete and you dont make it, unless you have a doctors note they wont let you compete in pole art for the next 2 years. so you have to be sure! -

That part means that if you make it to the finals and accept the spot that your are offered and sign the registration form and everything AND THEN suddenly pull out with really short notice and for no reason… well, that’s what any serious event organizer wants to avoid. The USPDF-contestants get to sign similar forms, for instance.

I so wish i could enter this…
Steph have you looked at travel yet? Any idea how much it is?
-
I just looked on Orbiz since i started getting curious myself , its $1,827 for a 1 stop on continental. Guess its time to use the credit card more for those miles… lol

i love it already. I probably won’t be able to go but I love how much pole dancing is becoming or is.

Hey guys, if you need any help with accomodation or getting around the city just let us know! Us organizers are already housing some of the judges/guests but I can give a shout out to all of my wonderful students and ask if any of them want to help a fellow poler out https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif I’m sure they’d love to…

Thank you so much for the kind compliment!
We simply want to throw an event here up north that will do justice to the inspiring talent, creativity and hard work that we find in the community https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif -

OMG I need to save up! Even tickets from Germany to Sweden can be expensive.
Have to wait until June for more info though huh? It all depends on how much place tickets are, how much the tickets to come watch are… hotels… etc etc.
I want to just go and see everyone and watch all the beauty… hmm…. *thinking thinking* -

If you can put something together with regards to accommodations, travel, etc. and post it, that would be great. My teacher is actually one of the judges, Stephanie Abrams from Kinetic Theory. I soooooo want to go. How much would your pole friends charge if they can take us in?

I was wondering if there is more information bout this competition. Me and my friend are thinking of spectating and was just curious as to where the event is held, so can plan accommodation and which airport to fly to. And when do tickets go on sale?

We have published travel and accomodation information here: http://poleart.org/en/Spectators
The closest and largest airport is Arlanda (Stockholm). But if you find good tickets to Bromma or Skavsta, those are fine too.
If you like, you could even ask around among our students on whether or not some of them want international guests and pole buddies during the stay. We have a active Swedish forum here: http://poleforum.se/
Questions and requests in English are understood by everyone https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
Love love love the poster picture!!!
Out of pure curiosity, what kind of pointe shoes are those? They look gorgeous on her feet!
I want to figure out a way to combine my love of ballet with pole dancing and do a routine using my pointe shoes….but that will need to wait a little while until I get stronger on the pole.

Thank you for all your support – the event went over so well and really exceeded all of our expectations!
Next year, it’s going to be held in Helsinki, Finland, again. We hope that event more of you guys can join in then (this year we "only" had spectators traveling from 17 different countries!)
The results as well as a video of the winner have been published here: http://poleart.org/en/Results
…and a bunch of stunning pictures here: http://poleart.org/en/Gallery

Those shoes were Bloch. Their pointes are a nice muted pink with a low vamp, if that’s your aesthetic preference.
We found the most challenging aspect of fusing pole and pointe in practical performance (rather than simply posing for a photo) to be friction. Or the lack of it!
With a satin, suede or chrochet tipped pointe shoe the momentum you gain for a pole spin or climb is so much less than you normally would from the ball of your foot. So I’m thinking you’d either want to push of from demi pointe or glue a sticky (rubbery?) material on top of the suede.
Let me know how YOU get around the problem once you do a routine, though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
Thank you so much for posting this! Pole Art is my favorite style of pole, even though I am not trained in any dance. I wish more pole dancers danced in their routines. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
